A Letter from Moonbrook
#1
Cristovao gets a LOT of mail holy crap

Cristovao received the letter in Tyr's Hand. Not expecting any mail from anyone, he made way into the city abbey where he could sit down and read it. He seated himself down, opened the envelope carefully, and unfolded the paper in hand. Slowly, he read it over...

Spoiler:
A Letter From Moonbrook Wrote:To Mister di Silvio,

I hope I spelled that last name right. It has been some time since I had to say or write when I greeted you in Westfall or at one of my shops. I hope life has treated you fairly thus far, and I hope your mood has improved since the incident at Moonbrook and Sentinel Hill. Awful business, all of that. Especially for me. I'm not a man of violence, and I did hope you would join me in helping Stormwind's downtrodden take back their life. I'm not mad. Not in the slightest. Just upset. I had thought you would have understood, but I think this is one of those things between friends that neither can agree on, like which sandwich shop has the best turkey. If you haven't tried Carmen's in Old Town, I suggest you stop by. Ask for green peppers and tomato with your turkey and provolone. Delicious.

In case you're wondering, the Defias are the people of Stormwind. I can easily get one to slip into town to drop off a letter.

Down to the purpose of the letter: Why I did it. I've been a part of the Defias for a long time, Cristovao. Since it was formed after the reconstruction of Stormwind. I was more of a background member, then. I provided funds, arranged for caravans carrying goods for my shop, as well as others, to be raided, and had a place for members to sleep in the city. I feel you might already know this, if you still have my journal, but better to get it all out of the way. Just in case. The cause for the Defias then was as noble as the cause I rallied people under this year. The people back then were trampled on by Varian and the House of Nobles, and people today are trampled on by Varian and the House of Nobles. Yet they have convinced the people that the Defias are the enemy, while sticking their greedy little hands in the pockets of every citizen. Even yours. As the House of Nobles takes from the people, the people soon come to realize that the only option is a complete overhaul of the Stormwind government. A clean slate. That is, of course, my hope. That the people think no longer that they alone are being screwed, but realize that the collective whole is being screwed. Collective Consciousness might be the term I'm seeking. I read it in a book once. Funny how the things you think of have already been put down to paper.

The Defias cannot die. I hope you realize this. The Defias is a personification of all of us. Us who are tired of Stormwind killing our children, taking our lands, forcing us to die out in Westfall. The Defias rose when the people had enough. This new Defias rose when the people had enough. Even if I and my Defias are defeated, the Defias will rise again. So long as Stormwind cares more about its fat slobs known as nobles, the Defias will be there to represent the interests of the people. When you sworn an oath as a paladin, did you swear to protect the people? The innocent? Now, I fully expect you to claim that we are no longer innocent for defending ourselves against Stormwind's tyranny, but does that mean the people fighting against Arthas in Stratholme were not innocent? Or is anyone that is willing to fight for their lives not innocent?

Is my writing going all over the place? It feels like it is.

In case you're wondering, a few of the Sentinel Hill guards are dead. Garret and that woman who alone had to watch Moonbrook are alive. If you care to visit the Defias, talk and either join or just end our friendship permanently, I will hand Garret and the woman (who I believe is called Allison) over to you so you may see that they get the proper care. A much more generous offer than Stormwind would offer me to save one of my brothers (Defias brothers, not actual brothers, I already know my actual brother is a bootlicker). I always have a place for you, even if you despise me and everything I do for the people. Do keep in touch.

David Hunter-Harting

P.S. Did you ever get Little Melon's costume? The Melon Monster one.

The paladin paused, his hands gripping the letter and crinkling it. He let out a heavy sigh as he looked over the writing again, leaning back in his seat to gather his thoughts. Opening a drawer, he picked up a quill pen and paper, and set to writing a reply as best he could.

A Reply to Moonbrook Wrote:David,

Let me first express my surprise at your letter. I had not expected to hear from you ever again after Moonbrook. To answer your question: yes, my mood has improved since then, but my feelings towards you have not.

You aren't a person of violence, yet you set Sentinel Hill to the torch. You organized crimes to rob people - not just the wealthy elite, but common people as well. You turned people on against each other, and your actions against Stormwind have brought their fire upon you.

How many people will die when the armies come marching on Moonbrook? You fight an unwinnable war, and every time you harass farmers and common people to gain an edge, no matter how noble the cause, you do more harm than good. Stormwind -is- corrupt, its nobles -are- greedy, and the king -is- a warrior with a heart full of hatred, but all the Defias does is take pricks against a mighty wall. It would take the Horde's best armies to overthrow Stormwind, what can you hope to do?

When the army attacks Moonbrook, there will be no mercy. You know very well that traitors receive no quarter, even if they surrender. There are many ways to try and make a change for the better, but the path you've chosen will only result in death. Death for you, for your followers, and for the soldiers that will come for you. That is what upsets me the most - the utter senselessness of it all. What we were doing in Moonbrook, we could have made a real change, a peaceful change. Win hearts with love, not anger and rebellion.

Perhaps still, that change may come in time. I hope you see the path you walk only leads to destruction and heartache, and that you will leave it to live a new life. I want you to live, so you can see MY ideas will work. Live and see a Stormwind that can resolve its problems peacefully and make life better for everyone. I can only pray.

I will return to Moonbrook to claim Garret and Allison. We may speak then if you wish, but I am uncertain if we will have anything new to say to each other. Time will tell. I do not despise you, but I am unsure I will ever forgive you either.

~Cristovao di Silvio

P.S. I received the costume, but I've not given it to Melodia. She asks why I do not take her for more clothes at your store, but I've not the heart to explain it in a way she will understand.

His writing completed, Cristovao sets the pen down and folds it inside an envelope. Taking it outside, he slips the sealed letter inside a mailbox to be delivered...
Your stories will always remain...

... as will your valiant hearts.
