I don't know how many players it's occurring like me that they don't know what "NWN2" is.

When I studied this I found this great link:

I also found this great link where you can get the NWN2 client from:

I am still working on this. However, I've had a tantrum spiral of computer troubles. At this point, I've resorted to handing off my rig to someone more hardware-inclined than myself. But I'm so desperate to get this thing worked on that I'm making texture maps in pen and attempting phone modeling... Urgh. (At least I get out of the awkward porn folder thing- there are occasional advantages to having the sex drive of a... Uh... I can't think of anything that couldnt be taken as innuendo)

As for the lore, I've been pondering some matters- particularly with religion. I do think that its safe to assume that there's at least something to most all religion. There are Angels and Demons and presumably a God, but if he is truly almighty in this world is likely unknowable.

I also want to point to early Jewish and Christian lore, particularly how it differs from more recent interpretation. For example, earlier lore views Lucifer as the enemy of man, but not God. In fact, some earlier interpretations represent him more as a jealous sibling, unable to kowtow to humanity as he felt only his beloved God.

From this, I'm proposing a surrogate Draenei Folk race. These individuals are Angels whom had agreed with Lucifer in their disrespect of Humanity (namely refusing to give them the same respect they gave God) but did not defy God beyond idaeology. They were damned but given an opportunity to earn repentance by serving as the overseers of Purgatory, the limbo of the Fathers and the Limbo of Infants.
Many have eventually come to love mankind, often with a nurturing take on this. They still bear their monstorous features, but have had their angelic powers restored.

/So, computer's working and its now playing nice with its own AMD hardware, so now back to the fun part: getting the custom content converting properly into nwn2 files. I am currently aving little luck when it comes to custom character model content, but I'm working on it.

One should note that N2N's character models are divided into segments: Head, hair, main body (upper arms, torso and thighs) feet/boots, and has attach points for each limb segment, the torso, the head, the back and the waist.
There are variables for the X, Y, and Z axes so that one can make a character taller, stouter, etc.

what does this mean for you?
Well, I've made a base character model with somewhat unrealistic porportions for the specific purpose of accommodating a variety of character shapes within these parameters. For example, an easy way of showing that a character is buff would be to give them beefy forearms in the "gloves" portion of the model.
For example, the macho douchebag from this sketch:

From the same model, we can implement a much merrier and more formal looking character:

Big hands mean a much greater variety in body sizes in general, and flat faces mean that all you have to worry about if you want to make a model yourself is to draw the eyes and mouth. And yes, I do want yall's input. (I'm working on the UV models so that the characters themselves will just be two-sided, thus more friendly for newbies to modeling to make custom textures, too)

Here's a base, again, kinda roughly drawn, but you get the idea. Also pictured is the current base model.
Spoiler:

Feel free to draw on it! Right now, I could use whole outfits, jacket ideas, features for the fantastical side of things, like horns or wings or whatever else you can think of on that front. Remember that there are attach points all over the body to facilitate things like watches, holsters, shoulder kitties and the likes.
Unfortunately, pants and shirts aren't separate models, though, so keep that in mind.

Also, I'd like some input on how to handle nonhuman forms. I'm kind of looking at the character concepts people are currently considering and making "Placeholder" models for those- a wolf or fox Folk in animal form might just appear as a large, sillhouetted quadrouped with a customizable aura color to tell them apart. But we'll see.

Also, I'm kinda wanting to hold off on opening the client until I've moved further along with the character models and implemented the retextures into a hakpak. This reasonable to people?

Dae's Concept Arts are very cute prove a really great designer.
Only according to the body proportions with the big head they make them look a bit childlike.

I am really intrigued by the NWN2 project with its possibilities to create own custom worlds for gaming.
There are only some concerns that made me worry and slow down:
- The official support for this game software was already stopped in 2012 and the documentation is starting to disappear. At some point it might happen that you cant download the software anymore.
When people cant get the software anymore all efforts for this lovingly crafted world will get futile.
- The Documentation for Builders is uncomplete and confusing. You only find pieces of explanations here and there, but I couldnt really find a complete and comprehensive documentation.
- The Server Software requieres a Windows Server to run on.

The head us a separate model and could easily be made larger or smaller based on the scaling values; as much as I'd like a serious face, I really want custom cobtent development to be easy However, I posted the sketches for this reason; if people feel strongly on the avatar design, I'd rather change direction before I get too far.

The game is on GoG, so the game itself isn't going anywhere soon. As for the documentation, yeah, a lot of the posted pages are gone, but there's a dedicated fanbase whom are compiling information into pdf files that are readily available. Its really not that bad compared to trying to deal with WoW modding.
In fact, people are already dealing with 3.3.5a being increasingly difficult to get a hold of, but prove to have resources that the more recent clients fail to have, if nothing else than to view the legacy models.
Also, while the server is Windows-based, the game is cross-OS compatible.
Not to mention, I have a buddy whose fingers are in many vudeo game pies, not the least being on the dev team for N1N. N2N isn't his thing so much, but he's able to point me to whomever could help me. He also likes slapping people with fish, but that's another story...

Really, though, I've looked at my options, and NWN2 just seems the most reasonable (legal) game option. I'd be open to other game suggestions.

I have been also working on new MMORPG options myself.
I found that SecondLife and OpenSim based Virtual Worlds can give a platform for an independent RPG.
In those directions there are actually efforts to improve the custamization options and open more possibilities for designer.
But my development does progress only slowly because of the lack of man power and that I'm a better programmer than designer.
Game Sims that count on a great design are actually very promising to be a big success.
The only limits that are set to the game possibilities are only defined by the designing and programming skills.

I liked about the NWN2 option that it has built-in design that can be used and that it does not put limitations on the space extension of the game world.

I'm not big on SL when it comes to the design limitations. Building objects has hindering quirks like the inability to easily mirror primatives and the requirement of unintuitive scripting for basic animations. That, on top on the real world money requirement is less than inviting. Have you checked out Ryzom core? I'm an artist not a programmer, so its not my forte, but if you're into programming, that's somethibg to consider.

I checked out Ryzom and saw that it really needs a complete design workover to get really atractive to the players. Nowadays you cant bind your players permanently to your game if you are still offering poor graphical features like in the 90s

I thought about programming because I found that that kind of game that would attract different kind of players and make them play together in an interesting game setting does not exist yet.

I started to study NWN2 and started to like it because of its nicely balanced system and its open platform for player and GM creativity.
I found two interesting NWN2 Fantasy Settings for those who are interested in Fantasy Roleplay:
www.realmsoftrinity.com
http://midgardsaga.mine.nu

It still is not what I would like to be a RPG like but it coming close to it.

It would be really cool if you would bundle your efforts in one big stream and get something going that meets the interest of most players and get the RP up and going again.

I am very much into Medieval Fantasy Roleplay and into customization and custom worlds, but also into serious roleplay.
