Covered in Desert Dust!
I'm back! I've replied to a few things I missed while I was away, but the prospect of a real bed with above-freezing temperatures, no wind, no rocks, and no lurking cacti is calling to me.

I was able to play with quite a few bugs, although it isn't quite scorpion and tarantula season, so I had to make do with wolf spiders and darkling beetles. Photos when my brain can process that kind of thing.

Try to never just say, "My character isn't interested in that adventure." A lot of people mistake this for good roleplaying, because you are asserting your character's personality. Wrong. Good roleplaying should never bring the game to a screeching halt. One of your jobs as a player is to come up with a reason why your character would be interested in a plot. After all, your personality is entirely in your hands, not the DM's. Come up with a reason why the adventure (or the reward) might appeal to you, no matter how esoteric or roundabout the reasoning. -(Source)

Welcome back! I hope you brought pictures!
This is Anza-Borego, one of the deserts we visited:

This is the thing I was scared of most; Teddy Bear Cholla (A horrible, nasty cactus with barbed spines):

This is a blister beetle. They live up to the name, so you won't see me holding this one:

This is a cute wolf spider:

This is a tarantula hawk! I was so excited to finally see one!

There is a picture of this same beetle in the same position sitting in my hand. He was REALLY dedicated to keeping up his bluff:

This is one of the really colorful harvestmen (NOT A SPIDER.) we found by the dozen up in the hills:

And this is me after several days in the desert: Dirty, dissheveled, with the only scorpion I could find and a Joshua tree growing out of my head:

Happy Easter/Equinox/Sunday, kids!

Man I am so jealous of you Q. I'm a herpetology buff so I'd be there digging around in the desert looking for all the cuddly lizard and cute snakes.

Nice buggies you found there, very adorable. Especially the wolf spider. Used to get tons of them in my old house. My mother learned very quickly it was better to relocate them than try to kill em. Babies everywhere! The tarantula hawk is quite impressive. Only time I've had the "pleasure" of meeting one was a little too close for my taste. For whatever reason she had decided that my glasses were very appealing haha.

Also I love the goggles
