Freelancer vs EVE

With stories such as these EVE has a large appeal to me, what does Freelancer have to offer that EVE doesn't have that's Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger than Freelancer could ever hope to be?
All makt åt Tengil, vår befriare!

Well, yeah. Freelancer is about an entire decade older than EVE. That's like comparing Super Nintendo to a Wii.

An entire decade? It's a 2003 game, good sir.

Freelancer has the advantage of being very easily modded. I honestly don't see any reason why one couldn't play both Freelancer and EVE, though.

I haven't played EVE, but there are some very good mods for Freelancer (like Discovery), and the combat appeals to me quite a lot. I also grew up on Freelancer, though, so I may be kind of biased.

What strange timing as I was trying out Freelancer a bit. Freelancer to me is better in terms of the major mod that's been made for it.

Multiplayer is pretty fun for RP and stuff while Eve in terms of RP annoys me especially since you have to pay for it, and there is no RP server. I also don't like the fact that EVE is too time consuming when it comes to skills and such.

Freelancer is a far more skill-based game, especially when you get mods like Discovery where the weapons classes are more standardized and less tier-based. Even with the weapon tiers, a player can defeat someone with far better gear than him with skill. I've seen a dagger take down a saber in a dogfight before.

Heh, I stand corrected. But again, five years difference is quite a bit.

That's the difference from Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

They were both released in 2003, heh, might be a few months between them.

It might be easy to mod, but does it get the same support as EVE? EVE has been continuesly updated with free expansions and player requested content and has gone through both graphic uppgrades as well as gameplay balancing, the EVE community has elections every so often choosing players to represent them and pitch ideas to CCP (the devs). Not only that but CCP has recently stated that they are working on a game called Dust 514 which will be a FPS for the Xbox 360, the unique thing about this is that it will be connected to EVE online through both chat programs as well as gameplay-wise, a corp or player in EVE can hire a merc squad from Dust to conquer certain planets in their name, thus being able to exploit that planet's resources.

There's so much to EVE that I doubt mod could ever really add much, except making it easier, but we wouldn't want that!

Edit: As for skills, I've seen newbie ships take down big Battlecruisers and Battleships in EVE, I've been in a few fights like those. Two weeks into the game and me and my friends had fleetops where we hunted for big ships to take down with our small frigates and cruisers. In EVE it is all about personal skills, a week old character can take down those that have played for years, hell, I've seen videos of industrial ships take down stuff like that too.
