Heroforgotten's Guide to Totemic Druids

Kaghuros Wrote:I'm not sure where you got that about Druids becoming Moonkin all the time.

Let me rephrase that. What I meant was that in retail WoW it's not terribly difficult for Druids to become Moonkin. When they reach a certain level and have enough talent points, they can choose that ability. It's somewhat exclusive (you can't both turn into a Tree and a Moonkin, I don't think) but once you choose that path it's fairly simple.

Of course, RP-wise, you can explain this by saying the Druid has studied the Balance path or the Way of the Talon or what have you, and then they gain the understanding of Moonkin form, etc.

All I was really trying to point out was that I sensed a discrepancy between the common frequency of Moonkin druids in retail WoW and the relative rarity of them in this compendium here. I wasn't sure why there was disparity given that they are pretty commonplace in the retail lore. If it's just a custom lore thing for this server, that's fine... I guess I just am slow today :D

Well I consider all forms to be hard to learn but not difficult to become once mastered. Here on the server we have a mix of totemic and non-totemic Druids, and a mix of those who can do certain forms and those who can't. That's all determined by the player.

So lets say my druid gets curious and wants to learn the form of a snake, Naralex [I forgot the name exactly], he is uncorrupted now and is working to help the barrens ((according to Cataclysm)) So where would he go to even -start- training on that form?

Lolwhut? Cataclysm? Don't even mention the name. The events are not there yet and don't start RPing anything related to it before it is actually here.

But it's best not to RP a snake form. You could learn it in the Emerald Dream though.

Druids of the Fang can become snakes, but they're also kind of shunned now by the Cenarion Circle. You would need to find a Druid of the Fang who would help you to train to become a snake.

So... odd to re-open a topic so many months later, but reading this guide a though came to my mind.

What about druids specialized in Cat form? There are no Cat druids in warcraft III, as far as I remember... and I've never heard about totemic druids who specialize on it. Or Am I wrong?

Are they some particoular sort of druids of the Claw? After all we're always speaking of clawed beasts.

Or is it a peculiarity of the Druid of the Wild?

From my understanding, cat druids have their own totem but the specific name (or even patrons) has not been mentioned in-game.

I found an article on the Great Cat Spirit (which I only vaguely remember being in World of Warcraft); it is suggestive of specialized training:
Quote:The Great Cat Spirit is a friendly level 70 cat found in southern Moonglade. The Great Cat Spirit's level was raised from 60 in patch 2.0.1.

Unlike the similarly appearing Great Bear Spirit, it is not currently involved in any quests, and druids obtain their cat form without interacting with it. There was once a quest for druids to obtain their cat forms that involved this NPC and an escort quest in Darkshore, but the quest was removed in early 2005 because it was felt that this gave druids too much Cenarion Circle reputation too early.
Claw focuses exclusively on bears. Its forms are all bear-related (Bear, Black Bear, Brown Bear, Polar Bear, Dire Bear, Huge Dire Bear) and its patrons (Ursol and Ursoc) are both bear-like. I think that a lot of people link catform with bearform because both are heavily influenced by the Feral talent tree.

We could always create server-specific lore about cat druids -- and the sea lion as well, which also seems to lack any totemic focus.

Yes, I've read before about the Cat spirit before, now that you make me think about it, but it doesn't explain much. It would be interesting to see how this quest they deleted was, actually: let's see if I can find it somewhere.

(Anyway ... there's some oddity here. Why is my name blue and I'm listed as a Peon (work complete O_O) (so at least in theory my introduction got approved), but still no introduction topic has been made visible? And if I try to make a game account it still tells me that I do not have any introduction post. What did I do wrong?)

I would make a druid if I could play Night Elves or tauren.

Duh.

Looks good, good that you covered that what is speculated is only just that. There are two things I noticed though;

The organization Druids of the Talon are gone, members still live but the organization is no more as Morthis tells in Epic Flight Form questline. I got the feeling that this goes for most of the circles and that is why Druids of the Wild came to be, those schooled in more forms are refered to as of the Wild cause they be both bird and bear and whatnot.

Secondly I began to ponder if Moonkin really are a form of the Talons. It is in-game revealed that owlkin are created by Elune to guard her holy sites. Would it not then make sense that those druids to lean more towards Elune rather than Cenarius would choose that form? (Instead of the Talons that is.)

Information on the aquatic form please?

I noticed there is an aquatic form ability in game and I was wondering if that is totemic, or that it fits into the "druids of the wild" category. I would think animals in water are as important in nature as the animals that inhabit the land. There must be druids that enjoy studying and praising aquatic animals, though I am new here, so there is the factor that I might be wrong.

Edit: I am guessing that this aquatic form is the sea-lion form that Piroska was talking about. That's something I wouldn't mind being able to find some lore on.

It sure looks like a sea lion. Anyway, if you want to be an aquatic Druid that sounds pretty awesome. I don't think anyone has tried it before either. Keep in mind that if you do have a "Druid of the Tusk", you'll be a bit washed up on land. *Ba dum tiss*
