What if instead of making the undead/death knights try to speak common you make the Alliance characters speak orcish? Just throwing it out there for now.
Edit: I was told that Kretol is already working on this... sorry for wasting a post.

The current language setup is just a temporary and very basic solution for now. Kretol will eventually get around to making the language comprehension much more broad.
