Renewal of the Sun

Of all the festivals of the Tauren, many fail to be as important across all tribes as the Renewal of the Sun - when An'she, the right eye of the Earthmother, looms above at its warmest, marking the height of summer. Rather than just 'another excuse to eat, drink and dance' as many detractors of the Tauren love for ceremony would say, the Renewal of the Sun is a chief time for appreciation, preparation and self-change. These importance are found in four chief ways:

  1. A time to appreciate An'she's warmth and the life it nurtures (plants and animals alike).
  2. A great focus on the new beginnings each day brings - encouraging Tauren to change.
  3. The marking of the height of summer - and, therefore, the preparation for colder times.
  4. As well as a chance to celebrate the sun-allowed harvests and hunts with a great feast.

There are more variations, each tribe having particular skews on the idea, but these four tenets are rarely ever shaken in Tauren culture.

Traditionally, the Renewal of the Sun would have been individually practiced by every tribe, or in small communal groups if tribes were close together. However, with the assimilation of the Tauren under Thunder Bluff, many festivals have become centralised and celebrated with what one could only imagine are feasts and dancing no other race could believe without seeing.

To differentiate it from more ordinary festivals (as Tauren are likely to celebrate anything), the Renewal of the Sun has a few special traditions:

  1. The hues of the sun - oranges, yellows and reds - are practically demanded in clothing.
  2. Food will largely be veggies, particularly one grown by the sun's warmth on them - carrots, corn, pumpkin and legumes, among others.
  3. Jewelry of copper and bronze is extremely popular - the more of the sun it reflects the better.

Overall, it's an event that any Tauren would have an excuse to go to - even Grimtotem would be accepted, though it may be a bit awkward to talk about 'that time you tried to exile everyone out of Thunder Bluff and killed our chieftain'.

Orcs and Trolls would be welcomed with open arms - provided they leave any warmongering or Old Ways at the door.
Forsaken, Blood Elves and Goblins would have to put forward why they want to attend ahead of time. Gatecrashers will be smacked.

Festivities are mostly simple, with a splashing of more interesting things!

  • Feasting!
  • Dancing!
  • Drumming!
  • A nice, warm summer's hunt!
  • Feats of strength for those young, testosterone-filled bulls!
  • Recognition and awards for the finest outfits, including jewelry!
  • Time to discuss how each person will change, later on in the day.
  • For those daring, climbing An'she Owachi for a pilgrimage! (untrained climbers beware)
  • More drumming, dancing and feasting!
  • This list subject to expansion!

This particular event, however, won't be in Thunder Bluff - it'll take place at the Cragwatcher clan's camp at the base of one of the tallest peaks in the Stonetalon Mountain ranges - An'she Owachi, an ancient site for this festival in particular.

For time, it'll take place on 31/08, 4:00 PM ST.

See you there!

Sweet! Our Tauren storyline is currently in Stonetalon and I believe it will continue to be so for at least the next few events. Several of us should be able to attend and I can also provide some measure of assistance if needed. Give me a shout if you need a hand with anything!

Also, excellent work on the thread.

Move him into the sun—
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields half-sown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.

Think how it wakes the seeds,—
Woke, once, the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear-achieved, are sides,
Full-nerved—still warm—too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
—O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth’s sleep at all?

Upon reading his profile, that makes sense. Yes, red runes are enough! Runemasters are a special case. :B

As a note for other people, though, you're free to come without the traditional colors - it's just they'll probably be seen as rude and/or unappreciative, which'll make things awkwardly ICly. It's a very time-honored tradition, the way I see it!

Willing to move this event ahead to the 25th to avoid conflict with CappnRob's Northshire shenanigans. How does that work for you all?

Okay, I'm pretty confident in shifting it ahead, then. The event is now set for the 25th!

I might be able to bring Ahanu, if a little ol' Grimtotem is welcome.
