Romaren Dunlain [Human Runemaster]
Player: Hawk

Character Full Name: Romaren Dunlain

Character In-Game Name: Dunlain

Nickname(s): Rom, Dun, Dunny,

Association(s): The Alliance, The Scarlet Crusade (former)

Race: Human

Class: Runemaster [Rogue]

Skills and Abilities: In a nutshell, he's a Rogue whose abilities are explained through the use of runes. The runes grant him an armour rating equal to leather. Other than that, nothing fancy.

Age: 30

Sex: Male

Hair: Black

Eyes: Blue

Weight: 231lbs

Height: 6'3

Usual Garments/Armor: He wears very little as to not reduce the effectiveness of his runes, though he covers as much of himself as he can.

Other: He has the crest of Lordaeron branded into his right and left hand. Other than that, nothing notable.

Personality: Dunlain is a rather relaxed and "go with the flow" type of man. He doesn't fixate on the small things and tends to simply let them go, but on a couple of occasions this has caused him to dismiss things too early and fail to see the bigger picture. But despite his lack of foresight this doesn't make him an idiot, and he's begun to try and inspect things more carefully before making a decision. There aren't many things that can make him hold a grudge and he's fairly slow to anger, however this is when he's in a calm state of mind. In life or death moments, he can often let his emotions get the better of him and make him unable to think clearly.

Even though he can cut to the chase a little too soon, he's a man with good intentions and after realising the error of his ways in the Scarlet Crusade has chosen to become more flexible in his choices.

History: Romaren Dunlain was raised amongst the Scarlet Crusaders. Taught that everything he possessed, he should thank the Light for. Everything that pretended to wield the Light or was unable to was an abomination that was a threat to not just their way of life, but to everyone on Azeroth. With these teachings drilled into his mind, he was becoming the perfect soldier. Although he didn't become a Paladin, he became a Monk, and was proving to be a valued addition in the fight against The Scourge and all else that was unholy. To prove his dedication, he requested that the crest of Lordaeron be burned into his hands so that he would never forget his pledge.

When he was fit enough, he was moved away from the simple churches and crude base camps. He was stationed at the great fortress of Hearthglen, where he frequently participated in scouting missions. Both friend and rival often died on the field, and he was able to keep pushing on. But his true test came when a member of the Argent Dawn was captured. Her beauty was breathtaking, and a ring on her finger indicated she was married. She was taken to the dungeons and to test his resolve, the commanders had him put her in Dunlain's charge. He personally extracted every ounce of information that he could out of her through the horrific torture machines they had beneath the church.

Even when she had her own blood pooling beneath her feet, even when she was mutilated almost beyond recognition, she still refused to admit her faith in the Light was false. She begged and pleaded for Romaren to stop, and even though he wanted to, he kept telling himself he was being tested. This was all to strengthen him. She was impure and had to be cleansed. Yet, he didn't have the heart to end her life. He reported to his commanding officers that he refused to believe she was a nonbeliever. Despite his claims, she was still executed. The night before, she gave Romaren her wedding ring and asked her to keep it safe, for it was the only thing precious to her in the world. She told him that she saw good in him as he tried to spare her.

Romaren was speechless, and sound of the guillotine dropping to her neck haunted him from that day and forever onwards. Even when a man had made her go through untold amounts of pain, she was the one giving him mercy. He never forget her face, nor her captivating green eyes. He spent the rest of his years not only trying to forget that night, but carrying on his sworn duty to the Scarlet Crusade. He wouldn't break his oath so easily. Fate had different plans for him entirely.

When the Argent Crusade liberated Hearthglen, he was taken prisoner and given mercy. Although at first he refused to believe it, he was enlightened to the truth. Not everyone was Scourge, and everyone was trying to create a better world. The blindfold was ripped from his eyes and was left a broken man, his only comfort being the bottom of a bottle as he relived the atrocities he committed in the name of a lie. It was only the kindness of a stranger that pulled him back onto his feet and allowed him to recover with a new perspective of the world.

Although it didn't start in the friendliest of ways. The stranger was in fact a Runemaster, and a rowdy Romaren dared to fight this man in a drunken rage with only a mug. He was floored in two punches, but the Runemaster looked after him and sobered him up. Before he knew it, he was an acolyte under this fearsome fighter, the sensation of martial training renewing his vigour. Runes were burned into his skin, granting him new powers and abilities. He set his gaze immediately on the Scarlet Crusade and The Scourge who were the cause of every moment of misery in his life. In the blistering cold of Dragonblight to the shores of Icecrown, he fought whoever and whenever he could.

Eventually, the war against The Lich King came to an end. Millions of lives were lost, but the living were ultimately the victors. Determined to begin a fresh life, he settled down with a woman and was living a relatively simple life. ... Or at least, when it suited her. She was the adventurous sort, but this seemed to only make him love her more. All was tranquil... until the earth began to quake. The world itself turned against the denizens of Azeroth, and now Romaren finds himself in a war against death itself.

"The irony of it all was that it was faith itself that ultimately destroyed any shard of hope I carried, and it still escapes my grasp." - Romaren Dunlain.
"I am more afraid of one hundred sheep led by a lion than one hundred lions led by a sheep."
Your stories will always remain...
