SRET, part 2!
#1
SRET; Significant Racial Event Timeline
Started by BountyHunter (Original thread), expanded on by FlyingSquirrel!

Alliance

Human:
  • Year 0 - First War - The Orcs invade Azeroth, spewing forth from the Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands and begins to invade the south of the Eastern Kingdoms. During this time, the City of Stormwind falls and the Alliance loses control over that area, retreating to the north.
  • Year 6 - Second War - The Alliance fights back against the Orcs, successfully, and over the course of a year they retake their lands. After winning the war, they imprison the Orcs in internment camps, destroying the Dark Portal in the process and trapping them here.
  • Year 20 - Third War - The Alliance completely lose Lordaeron to the Scourge and the Orcs escape to Kalimdor. The Alliance gains the Night Elves as allies and fights to protect the World Tree from the Burning Legion's attack upon it.
  • Year 27 - Return of the King - King Varian Wrynn of Stormwind retakes his place on the throne. His Regent-Lord, Bolvar Fordragon, begins offensives in the land of Northrend.
  • Year 30 - Deathwing's Return - Deathwing returns to Azeroth, and announces his return, among a host of other things, by demolishing the Park district of Stormwind. Furthermore, pushed by the Horde's aggressive tactics under Garrosh, the Humans return to war.

Dwarf:
  • Year -230 - War of the Three Hammers - The three clans of Dwarves (Bronzebeard, Wildhammer and Dark Iron) break out into civil war upon the death of the king. The Bronzebeards manage to defeat the other two clans, taking Ironforge. The Dark Irons then attack both the ousted Wildhammers and the Bronzebeard, getting sorely defeated and summoning Ragnaros in the process. The Wildhammers move up to the Hinterlands, while the Dark Iron are subjugated under Ragnaros in Blackrock Spire.
  • Year 6 - Second War - The Orcs begin to attempt to take over Khaz Modan, the Dwarven lands, and the Dwarves join with the Humans in an attempt to stop this menace from completely destroying everything in their wake.
  • Year 20 - Third War - The Alliance completely lose Lordaeron to the Scourge and the Orcs escape to Kalimdor. The Alliance gains the Night Elves as allies and fights to protect the World Tree from the Burning Legion's attack upon it.
  • Year 30 - Magni's sacrifice - As the Cataclysm begins, Magni Bronzebeard, King of Ironforge, sacrifices himself to save the city. In the resulting power vacuum, his estranged daughter, Moira Bronzebeard, Queen of the Dark Irons, takes over. She eventually agrees to lead a triumvirate, along with Thane Muradin Bronzebeard and Thane Falstad Wildhammer. An uneasy peace begins between the three clans for the first time since the War of the Three Hammers.

Gnome:
  • Year -199 years ago - Surfacing - Gnomes are found by their Dwarven cousins and Gnomeregan is built in the mountains of Khaz Modan.
  • Year 0 - Second War - The Orcs bring their war to the lands of Khaz Modan and, along with their Dwarven allies, the Gnomes join in the fight in order to stop the Orcs from destroying everything left of the Human kingdoms.
  • Year 20 - Gnomeregan - Troggs invade Gnomeregan, the Gnomes stay out of the Third War to protect their homeland in which is eventually bombed. This action leaves radiation covering the city, leaving the Gnomes to evacuate and take shelter within the Dwarven city of Ironforge.
  • Year 30 - Retaking of Gnomeregan - With the help of the Alliance, the Gnomes retake the land surrounding and the upper part of Gnomeregan from Thermaplugg's forces. However, the core of the city is still in his hands.

Night Elf:
  • Year ~-10,000 - The Sundering/War of the Ancients - The Burning Legion begin to enter Azeroth and invade, the Kaldorei and one faction of Highborne fight them back with the assistance of the Eternals and Dragons. Then, the Well of Eternity explodes in a successful attempt to stop Sargeras getting through to Azeroth. Majority of males enter the Emerald Dream during the aftermath.
  • Year ~-9,000 - The War of the Satyr begins. During this War, the Druids of the Pack transform into Worgen, and begin the curse of the Worgen. They are banished, and do not reappear until Arugal summons them millenia later.
  • Year ~-7,300 - Exile of the Highborne - The Highborne are exiled out of Kalimdor due to the problems they were causing to the Kaldorei. These Highborne sail across the seas to the east, braving the Maelstrom and landing in Tirisfal. These Highborne become the High Elves.
  • Year ~-1,000 - War of the Shifting Sands - The inhabitents of Kalimdor fight back against the dangerous Silithid and Qiraji of Silithus. The battle ends with the creation of the Scarab Wall and retreat of the monsters. They were trapped behind the wall for many, many years.
  • Year 20 - Resurfacing - The Night Elves are found by the Orcs as they attempt to cut down their forests, the Orcs fight fiercely against the Night Elves and end up killing one of their leaders, Cenarius, in their blood fuelled campaign. Majority of the Males exit the Emerald Dream.
  • Year 20 - Third War - The Burning Legion attack the Kaldorei lands and Archimonde attacks the World Tree, Nordrassil. The Night Elves give up their immortality in order to defeat the Eredar leader and push the Burning Legion back with the assistance of the Horde and Alliance.
  • Year 21/22 - Birth of Teldrassil - A new attempt at a World Tree, Teldrassil, is created. Although it did not have the power to regain their immortality, they used it to house their new capital, Darnassus.
  • Year 30 - Defeat of the Nightmare - The Nightmare, which had plagued the Emerald Dream, is defeated through the efforts of the Green Dragonflight and their mortal counterparts. The remaining Druids who were in the Dream, such as Malfurion Stormrage, return to civilization.
  • Year 30 - Attack of Hyjal - The Elemental Lord of Fire, Ragnaros, starts an attack on the former world tree, Nordrassil, in hopes to absorb it's power.
Note: Night Elves did not leave Kalimdor until Year 20.

Draenei:
  • Year ~-25,000 - Flight from Argus - A good majority of the Eredar of Argus follow Kil'jaden and Archimonde, two of their leaders, into the ranks of Sargeras. The other Eredar join Velen in joining the Naaru and escaping upon the dimensional ship Oshu'gun and become the Draenei.
  • Year -930 - Arrival on Draenor - After a long time running away from the pursuing Burning Legion, the Draenei come across the land of Draenor and settle down with the peaceful and shamanistic Orcs. Although they don't mingle much with these warriors, they are in good relations.
  • Year -5 - Massacre - The Orcs, fuelled by the demon blood of Mannaroth, turn into savage warriors and suddenly turn on the Draenei, rampaging through their lands and killing as many of the peaceful Draenei as they can. A very large majority of the Draenei were killed and the remaining either were corrupted and turned into Broken or Lost while the others found refuge in Zangermarsh.
  • Year 25 - Escape - The Draenei gain knowledge of the Tempest Keep appearing in Outlands (Formally Draenor) and lead an assault on the Blood Elven controlled fortress. They gain the dimensional ship, Exodar, and bring all of their people upon it and escape. However, the Blood Elves sabotaged the engine and it plummets down into Azeroth, crashing.

Worgen:
  • Year 6 - Construction of the Wall - The Gilneans finish construction of a major wall, the likes of which block off Gilneas from Lordaeron. Coupled with the reefs surrounding Gilneas, the kingdom enters a period of complete isolation.
  • Year 20 - Northgate Rebellion - Dissatisfied Gilneans, united under Lord Darius Crowley, start a rebellion. The rebellion is stopped when Crowley is captured by King Genn Greymane.
  • Years 21-30 - The Worgen Curse - After the Northgate Rebellion, the Worgen Curse begins spreading around Gilneas. Despite the King's best efforts, much of the population begins to succumb. When the Worgen launch an offense on the city itself, the rebels are freed and make a last stand within Light's Dawn Cathedral.
  • Year 30 - Invasion by the Forsaken - With the Cataclysm, the reefs protecting Gilneas break, as does the Wall, and a large amount of the peninsula falls into the ocean. The Forsaken quickly launch an offensive against Gilneas, which buckles under the attack.
  • Year 30 - Reintroduction to the Alliance - Desperate for aid against the Forsaken, the Worgen rejoin Alliance. After finding a cure for the Worgen curse, the Human and Worgen Gilnean retake the Gilnean peninsula. They are stopped at the wall. All who do not partake in the war are evacuated to Darnassus.
Note: Up until recently, the Worgen (provided they were cursed) were little more than wolves. Furthermore, nobody inside Gilneas traveled outside after the Wall was constructed, with the sole exception being those of the Gilneas Brigade.

Horde

Orc:
  • Year -5 - Massacre - The Orcs, fuelled by the demon blood of Mannaroth, turn into savage warriors and suddenly turn on the Draenei, rampaging through their lands and killing as many of the peaceful Draenei as they can. The dark Shadow Council was formed under the command of Gul'dan and Blackhand becomes the Warchief of the Orc Horde.
  • Year 0 - Invasion of Azeroth/First War - First contact with Azeroth and beginning of the First War. The very first Orcs set foot in Azeroth and, in a blood rage, begin to wage war with the Humans for their land. This war ends with them being victorious and gaining the south of the Eastern Kingdoms for themselves.
  • Year 6 - Defeat of the Orcs - After the Second War, the Orcs are defeated at the hands of the Alliance. All but the Frostwolf and Warsong clans are taken into internment camps around the Eastern Kingdoms. Here they suffer from lethargy from lack of blood lust.
  • Year 20 - Escape to Kalimdor - With the Orcs freed from the internment camps by Thrall, the new Warchief, they escape to the land of Kalimdor, finding the Darkspear Trolls along the way and saving them from the Murlocs and bringing them with them to the land of Kalimdor.
  • Year 20 - Third War - The Burning Legion enter the world, led by Archimonde, and assault the World Tree, Nordrassil. The Horde, led by Thrall, do their best to help keep the Legion away from the Tree and successfully assist the Alliance into holding off the Legion for long enough.
  • Year 30 - New Warchief - Thrall steps down as Warchief and hands the title to Garrosh Hellscream, son of Grommash Hellscream. Garrosh is quick to renew the war between the Alliance and the Horde.
Note: There were no Orcs in Azeroth before 30 years ago.

Troll:
  • Year 20 - Escape to Kalimdor - The Orcs find the Darkspear Trolls on the Darkspear Isles, being raided by Murlocs. With the help of the orcs, they fight back the Sea Witch which was trying to get rid of them. The isles then begin to sink into the ocean and the Trolls escape with the Orcs and make their way to Kalimdor.
  • Year 30 - Retaking Echo Isles - With the help of the rest of the Horde, the Darkspear Trolls retake Echo Isles from Zalazane. They settle in quickly.
Note: If you are a Troll from one of the Strangethorn Vale tribes, these do not apply.

Tauren:
  • Year 20 - Retaking Mul'gore - With the assistance of the Orcs, the Tauren retake Mul'gore from their age old enemies, the Centaur, and begin to build Thunderbluff upon the large cliffs, finally settling down and giving up their nomadic ways. They join the Horde to assist their new found friends.
  • Year 20 - Death of Cairne Bloodhoof - Cairne Bloodhoof, Chieftain of the Tauren, is killed in a duel with Garrosh Hellscream. The Grimtotem are later shown to have had a hand in this duel. Cairne's son, Baine, succeeds his father, but relations are soured between the Orcs and Tauren.
Note: Before the reclamation of Mul'gore, the Tauren were nomadic and didn't settle down in one place for long.

Forsaken:
  • Year 20 - Raising - After dying as a result of the Scourge, the bodies are raised in servitude to the Lich King and made to fight for his cause, slaughtering everyone in their way. During this time, they were mindless and simply did whatever they were forced to.
  • Year 21 - The Forsaken - With the Lich King weakening and Sylvanas betraying Arthas, a large group of the Scourge break free of the Lich King's will on them and join under the banner of the Forsaken. With hate brewing inside of them, they promise to destroy the Scourge for what they have done to them.
  • Year 30 - The Val'kyr - With the death of the Lich King, the Val'kyr join the Forsaken. With this new form of reproduction secured, the Forsaken begin a new series of aggresive campaigns in the areas near Tirisfal Glades, including Andorhal, Gilneas and Hillsbrad Foothills.
Note: Before being Forsaken, these Undead were Human. Relate back to that portion of the guide for prior-raising history.

Blood Elf:
  • Year 6 - The Second War - With the Humans begging for the assistance of the Elves, the High Elves join the war efforts of the Alliance and fight back against the Orcs. Their archers and magic prove to be a great asset for the Alliance and with their assistance, they win the Second War.
  • Year 20 - The Fall of Quel'thalas - The Scourge, led by Arthas, drove their forces into the Elven lands of Quel'Thalas, destroying and killing a majority of the people and land. Evidence of this attack involves the Dead Scar which runs straight through the center of what remains. During this time, the Sunwell was corrupted by Arthas and the High Elves begun to suffer from magic withdrawal.
  • Year 21/22 - Return from Outlands - A squad of Elves returns from Outlands where a large army, led by Kael'thas, have been. They teach the remaining Elves how to absorb Fel and, in doing so, caused them to gain fel green eyes and turn them into what is now known as Blood Elves.
  • Year 26 - Purification of the Sunwell - The Shattered Sun Offensive assault the Sunwell Plateau and reclaim it from Kael'thas and his men. During this assault, they fight Kil'jaden back from gaining entry into Azeroth and drop the Heart of a Naaru into it, successfully purifying it and freeing the Blood Elves from their Magic Addiction.
Note: There were no Blood Elves before the Third War, before then they were High Elves.

Goblin:
  • Year -200 - Beginning of trading - The first Trade Fleets sail out of Kezan. While this is not the first appearance of the Goblins, this is the first time they'd left solely with the purpose to trade.
  • Year 0-6 - Benefitting from the War - The Goblins sell technology to both sides of the First War. However, by the time the Second War has begun, some have begun to sell solely to the Horde. Still others remain neutral.
  • Year 30 - Destruction of Bilgewater Port - With Deathwing's return, Mount Kajaro erupts and the Goblins lose their home. The refugees of the Bilgewater Cartel, through a series of events, come to join the Horde. The other cartels remain neutral.

Note 1; I added one year to each of BountyHunter's old times, and put all the events of the Cataclysm as one year ago.
Note 2; This was all put using the Game's Calendar, which starts at the invasion of Azeroth by the Orcish forces. The year we are currently on fluctuates between 30 and 31.
As always, if you have any critiques or suggestions, post below! I'm not too good on the lore of the newer races, so I'm particularly looking for help with them.

I'm going to take no response as an indication that this is good?

Well...

I'm no GM, but I do disagree about worgen having no free will up until recently. Arugal controlled a few with his magic, those he kept in Shadowfang Keep. The rest worked on a pack mentality. They all certainly succumbed to their instincts, but it is my thought/opinion that they weren't exactly...stupid? Empty? They had enough organization to keep a cult going, and run an invasion.

I also wonder about no Gilneans being outside the wall. Could a traveling merchant not be stuck outside? A mage that had been studying in Dalaran?

I also recommend mentioning the night elf origin of worgen.

For the free will part, I changed it to that they were little more than wolves, based off of this quote.
Quote:bestial humanoids enslaved by their own primal instincts
That's from here.

Furthermore, I changed it to the fact that no one behind the Wall left, other than the Gilneas Brigade.

Tossed in a section for the Night Elves dealing with the War of the Satyr. This was an approximate guess at the time, however, so if anyone has a better time, go ahead and post it.

Quote:1 year ago - Blessing of Teldrassil - Teldrassil is blessed by the remaining, non-mad Dragon Aspects. Among other benefits, the Night Elves regain their immortality.
Despite receiving blessings from Ysera and Alexstrasza, Teldrassil still doesn't have Nozdormu's blessing. Nozdormu, being the Lord of Time, is the only one who can return the Kaldorei's immortality so the Night Elves still aren't immortal again.

Oh. Musta missed that. Thank you, Rokh!

I'd recommend keeping the year system, so that you can just include all of the Cataclysm events under year 30, rather than saying one year ago. We'll also likely be stuck in a certain year like we were in Wrath in order to prevent things from getting messy, so that's my reasoning for doing it that way.

Other than that, I like this timeline. Good job!

I changed it all to a Year 0/Year 30 format.

Very good initiative on bringing this back! It will be of big help in the character creation process, not to mention a good way of gaining an overview of the more important lore bits in the recent history.

Good shiz!

Bump! Do I have any feedback for this? Any more crucial dates to add in? If not, I'm going to move it to the Articles/Guides section of the forum.
