Short question on 'expanded universe'
#1
Hey, everyone. I was gonna post this in the Skype group, but then I realised:
  • Some of you stinkers aren't even in the group to begin with!
  • This is more of a GM/staff related question
  • It'd be nice to have some slower, more structured chat about this anyhow

So, by 'expanded universe', of course, I'm talking about this stuff. Not the officially licensed and published books or Blizzard commissioned/produced media-stuff, particularly the short stories and unofficial stuff, like unbroken as an example.

The question this thread is for is: should the 'unofficial, but still curated by Blizzard' stuff be considered canon, and if so - to what degree?

My view is 'as long as it doesn't contradict stuff in a major way, then it should be considered canon' ('a major way' to differentiate from the fact that Blizzard kinda stumbles over its own lore every time it gets up to make breakfast in the morning), and I hope I'm not really preaching to the choir and it's already been ruled on while I was away.

Thoughts?

Move him into the sun—
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields half-sown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.

Think how it wakes the seeds,—
Woke, once, the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear-achieved, are sides,
Full-nerved—still warm—too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
—O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth’s sleep at all?

That stuff is definitely canon. There's contradictions but really you can't avoid those either way.
Your stories will always remain...

... as will your valiant hearts.

Awesome! It's got detailed descriptions of the sacking of Shattrath and other awesome stuff I'm gonna have to peek through.

Let's all rejoice!
