Well, the majority of people seems to go for the NwN2 server, so I'm pretty much going with that. I have to get an actual internet cable for it, since it's effectiveness is severely limited with no internet access derp, and I'll see if NwN2 is on sale on steam sometime during the Christmas, if it isn't, I'll buy it after Christmas at full price then I'll have to do some research about hosting a server at all, something I'd accept any help with.

It's pretty easy with NWN2.

The harder part is finding a gameworld to host on the server.
But there are some guides on the internet explaining how to set up a server.

But first things first, finding a guide on setting up a dedicated NWN2 server!

I'd say if you are definitely going to make a NWN2 server, in my opinion it'd be better to come to an agreement of what setting you want for it and then build its areas manually. And then there's the scripting, which used to be just as annoying with its predecessor. I used to build all the time on the original NWN toolset, and the NWN2 toolset, so I'm quite familiar with them both.

As far as I know, it should be as simple as loading up nwserver and having a module for it to host 24/7. I can't say I know for certain though, I never really got that into NWN2.

It'd likely be best to just stick with NWN's setting, Forgotten Realms.

If we want to get creative, we could just create our own custom settlement, and have our actions effect it through events. Everyone's a part of the town or something.

I'd like that. I've always missed the ability to alter the world around us on coth. That's not much of an issue on our own NwN2 server.

The more I read what you just said Xigo, the more I start to think of Isandor, lol. Although I do love survival based roleplay, it's fun.

Well, I can be busy with the hosting if Roxas trusts me enough with that. (External access to the server :P)

The more challenging part will be finding a world, I'm happy with anything but the world has to have a low-entry level so people can familiarise themselves easily.

Make an engine/mod for Skyrim to make it multiplayer.

No, but seriously; what the heck is a server..? Is it like a modem box or something that allows people to connect to it? I don't understand what this is.

A server is a dedicated computer in running a IT service for 24/7.

Think of, an email server.
Or a website, all corporations run it on these machines.

They come in a few different models.

Blades, which are hot-swappable machines in a server rack.
Rack-servers, which are mounted in a big case and locked behind door.
PC-Case versions, which just run in a PC case.

A working, at least mostly-functional GW2 private RP server?

Yeah, I'd kill for that. But it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

Well, it appears as though the NwN2 wikia has a nifty little guide for setting up a server. I'll bookmark that for now.

It took years for the WoW private server emulator to come out.

This was largely due to it having a huge playerbase, and some cheap folk wanting to play it for free without the monthly cost.

GW2 has no monthly cost.

It's heavily scripted.

I doubt anyone would bother getting an emulator running.
