Stupid Children

Personally, I believe we need more vampire stories like this before anything else.

I remember when I was a kid, it was a topic, but hell if I knew what it was. I knew adults liked it, a lot.

And Spongebob is the nerfed Ren and Stimpy. It's like nikelodian said, "Alright, so we need someone that can copy that art style, and sense of humor, but won't say a peep if we tell 'em we don't like a certain concept, unlike with Ren and Stimpy." And thus, Spongebob was born.

If you doubt me, compare the two cartoons.

I have no idea who Ren and Stimpy are O.o.

Now, let's start off with older cartoons. Tom and Jerry, they taught kids somewhat common sense, but it was mainly for the luls. It was all for the luls, no funny play. Well, except for a few sketches that were controversial but that's another topic. Today's entertainment has a load of 'hidden' sort of crap in their thing, like subliminal but not really. Secret humor that only the parents are supposed to get, and the kid to go "Wha?". Why this? Because the mentality of "Well, they're gona' get dragged to a child movie, they might as well enjoy themselves a tad." And it sort of pisses me off, a lot. Me and my dad go to the younger movies all the time (Sometimes it's just for the 3d adventure.) and it just makes crap awkward because, like most parents, he doesn't want to be around his kid when there's that sort of humor. And, forget the movies...T.V is also sort of bad. I don't want to name any shows but sit-coms are the worse, IMO. They have TOO much sexual references, and kids watch it!

Why can't we all be happy and watch the Discovery Channel, National or even Animal Planet? I used to love those channels ;-;
So Ivan say to me "Who was talking device then?"

And then Sergei say "But Ivan is dead"

That is when I realize Sergei was bear.

[IMO]

I don't think parents need to look over their kids's shoulders for each piece of entertainment content they come across. They just need to put a dam good basis of education down for their kids for when the dumb stuff comes in. Beginning with the examples they are, which is the bulk of education.

Porn won't mess up a kid whose parents have sat down with'm and had a mature discussion explaining the birds and bees and maybe a bit of the men and the women. Parental filter education just creates repressed kids in most cases.

Twilight won't represent an existential statement about teenage life and about what relationships should look like to a kid that at least has the background of 40-50 real books read.

[/IMO]

Yes, Blade should fuh Eddie up. And uh... Ren and Stimpy should ...erm... out-absurd Spongebob... too.

YES.

This.

On another note, we will never speak of Twilight again. EVER.

I totally agree with everyone. :D

I am certainly glad that many of you feel this way. So many of my students were reading Twilight this year that I thought my head would explode if they mentioned these crappy characters again. Then, I made the mistake of being so dedicated to my Profession that I had to read them all so I could comment on them and figure out what the hell was going on.

I lost a good portion of my life. It gives me faith to know, however, that there are still avid readers of good literature out there.

I don't blame the Media. That is stupid. Look at the 90's when children were watching stupidly funny things. The western culture in general has become something that celebrates stupidity, rewards ignorance with attention, and dispises schooling. In such a culture for children the intellectuals only get a pat on the back or a smile from teachers and not their peers. That is mainly why eastern cultures, such as in the Orients and the Islamic world the same media is exposed to children but they still suceed and care not to be dumb; in their culture being dumb is frowned upon.

I don't believe that. The educated make money, heh.

Kind of. A manager at a local grocerie store can make enough money to support a family of 4 and a large house, and it only takes 5 years to get to that position if you work at it. Of course, it depends on the store though.

It depends on more then how long you work, or where. My dad has a master's degree in electronics, yet he still only makes about the same as somebody without a college education. It's all in how lucky you are when you get out of college.

Just to give this topic some laugh, and because I'm a total ass, I'm going to talk about Twilight again.

With the second movie coming along, my friend and I will go to the cinema to see it. When we're there however, we will grunt like a bunch of grandpas with breathing problems everytime we hear some crappy one-liner or when someone's making some stupid face on screen(which will probably be 89% of the whole Twilight movie).

I can hear the people complaining already >:)

Parents should sit down with their children, take out a nice box of lego he/she bought and play with them. Talk to them about the world and what is right in life. Don't sugar coat everything or expect them to find out later. It's easy to blame Television, internet and even music (yes was a big story in South Africa about metal making kids turn bad). Instead of playing the blame game why not get involved with them directly instead of joining a chat group of forum complaining about how they turned out (please understand I don't mean this forum) My dad now is very busy and barely home but when I was young he played with me every day for at least an hour and told me things I needed to know, from who was my grandfather when he was young to the good old birds and bees.

Lego isn't that expensive and time spent with your young boy/girl can only be done for such a short time.

P.S. I'm amazed no one attacked the queen of little girls, Hanna Montana! yet

We all just wanted to forget and not open that subject, ow.

But yeah, communication with kids is the key element to a healthy relationship. If parents are rational and understanding, then the kids will grow up to be the same. Communication, I say, is always the key.

Honestly, the only thing to blame, which is what we're covering, is the media turning them all into masses of grayish glue without indivuduality. It's why I take time to read to my cousin, and help him with writing assignments, and even get him influenced politically.

/sniffle

The little bugger already challenges my views logically! I wish it were my kid.
