Wrath of the Lich King Ratchet-on-the-Rocks [Custom Patch]
#1
Hello, hello! Warmest salutations, dear CotH! It is my great pleasure today to announce the launch of our newest location:

Ratchet-on-the-Rocks

So big, I can't even fit it all in one screenshot!

All right, you may be saying to yourself, it's kinda cool -- but what am I looking at, Caravan? Excellent question! It is the fancy schmancy tourist area and it's completely stocked with shops (some with shopkeeps, some just waiting for our lovely professionals to step right in), lounges, a bank, a post office (aww yeah you heard me), and a handful of homes to rent. To the right there is a zeppelin that probably won't explode to get you to and from the district and home! Pay no attention to Gangplank, the Black Market that runs in the rig corridors down below.

The giant structure to the left? Go through the gate and you've entered the goblin party complex! Here you'll find a bar, hotel, nightclub, casino, spa (complete with giant steam room!), outdoor bistro and outdoor stage.

Truly it is a feast for the eyes and our coffers.

The bridge? What bridge? Oh, right, that one just at the edge of the screenshot...it just leads to the worker's district. W-what? Stop! You needn't concern yourself with the bridge, dear Tourist! Come back to the Club and let's have a drink, I'll even let you pa---

Hey!

Spoiler:

We didn't even need a filter on this one. It's really that grimey.

Welcome to Dredgetown.

All that glitters is not gold, because if there were any gold left here it would've already been ripped out. Goblin housing at its finest: an amalgamation of regulationless factories, sweatshops, tenements and warehouses await on the other side of the bridge.

But, Caravan, this looks kinda cool, too! Oh, it most assuredly is! So what's so great about it other than all dat smog?

Well, my friends, Dredgetown is positively littered with 'Random Encounters' -- flavor areas and NPCs that serve as mini-events, mini-quests, and RP-sparkers. A good many of them require GM puppeting (such as a Mugging) but others (such as a few Alley Dogs and a Fight Club) are open for players to use freely. As was the case with the touristy place, all of the homes in Dredgetown are individualized and open for players to move in. Some are even themed! For example, you'll find fugitive hideouts, engineering hovels, a butcher, and a slum hospital.

What else can you do? Well, for all my assassins, scoundrels, and other runners-from-the-Law, do you know what makes running from your enemies even better? Running on rooftops! That's why each row of one-story houses is accessible so that you may roof-run to your heart's content.

Note, too, the back-alley rows of tents. This is the Scrapyard*.

In general, I have hidden custom seating in barrels, countertops, planks, etc. Please try them out!

* There is an important note we would like to make regarding RATCHET-ON-THE-ROCKS GUARDS. They operate 'as normal' within the well-to-do 'Uptown' (Read: Don't do anything stupid in front of the guards :P). However, things are different in Gangplank, Dredgetown Housing District and Scrapyard. You will notice that the guards are either scarce or nonexistent in certain parts of these areas. The guards will not investigate or respond to crimes commited in the Gangplank, Dredgetown Housing District, or the Scrapyard (the tent area) unless the crime is done in front of them.

There are no guards in the Scrapyard. Ever. They don't go there.

To recap:

Spoiler:
Here are the named areas:
- The Triangle Club (The nightclub and casino)
- Gangplank (Black Market within the Tourist Sector -- found in the underbelly of the Zeppelin Rig)
- The Empty Barrel (the tavern in Dredgetown)
- Dredgetown ('Downtown' RotR. The Slums. Industrial sector). Also: Dredgetown Housing District
- Uptown/Tourist Trap (The 'nice' section of RotR)
- The Scrapyard (The back-alley tents. Rough neighborhood)
- The Bridge (connecting platforms)
- More TBA at a later date

Enough talking, Caravan, I wanna be there right now~! How do I get there? Just go to your nearest neighborhood portal, say 'hello' and head to RP LOCATIONS - PATCH NEEDED! > RP Location Selector. It'll bring you to a floating platform in Tanaris -- if you fall through (to your death) don't panic! Try again -- sometimes it just loads a half-second too late :). You'll see the lovely goblin transport device and, once clicked, you'll be brought to the Bridge. Go character-left to Uptown, character-right to Dredgetown.

Just to close: A big shout-out and thanks to Rigley for both working on it and for letting me help. I'm glad it's finally launchin' 'cause I've been chomping at the bit to get in on the RP opportunities here. We'll be fine-tuning it in the weeks to come, but until then: Get outta OOC and come on in to Ratchet-on-the-Rocks! Especially you, Rensin.

Best wishes, always,
Caravan

Just a brief note regarding the area:

1) You may wish to turn down your sound. There's a loud BWAAAAAAACKCKKCKKCK that comes from the stage near the casino periodically.

2) You also may want to leave the general and defense channels while in RotR, if only due to the troublesome way the chat is handled. It may be best, since not everyone in the town may be able to read it after all.

Sorry, Delta. ;p It's actually based (in name only, and as a reference to F. Scott Fitzgerald) on this.

I'm just going to spam post another "Wow" in here. The details of this place are amazing. You got the fancy rich district, but those slums.. It really sets the mood right. There's crime everywhere if you look for it, all the details you'd expect from such an area. It's really worth checking out, and the zone is absolutely massive. The behind the scene details here and there, really makes me go 'what the hell' and I'm not sure if I even want to know what they are up to.

I'm amazed, I really am.

I propose considering the local channels aren't working that we join a /Ratchet chat for all those that are around as an easier way to communicate there. That, or we just take over the regular chat. :>

Rigley and Caravan...you're the best.

I hope this makes Ratchet a hub for RP again. No, I doubt it won't!
