Elves for an Elven Future
#31
Quote:Dear Boss,

How are you feeling? We miss you and Aria and Melodia in Ratchet. We hope you are feeling okay. We have not found Celes yet.

We found this post in Ratchet. I think you and me know who made this. I think you and me know who she is talking about in this. What should we do?

Earthmother and Light watch over you.

Tibalan

P.S., My Orcish is getting better! : D

Kapre smiled at the P.S. note and the little smiling face Tibalan scribbled on his letter, proud his friend and employee's language skills are improving in at least its written form. He has been staying with Reigen now, a guest in her home as his daughters sleep in a borrowed crib. He stood outside the door to his friend's mailbox, reading the letter repeatedly to understand what Tibalan was talking about. A post? Wait, did he mean "found this posted"? "found this poster?" Nevermind. Grammatical accuracy is not the issue here, but the enclosed poster, unsigned and otherwise untouched, provided in the letter. He opens it up and reads. He sighs.

Diwaata otherwise pointed out my hypocrisy, Kapre throught, in which I think that love should be combined with sensibility and the needs of your people... which means sticking to your own race. But I have reasons why I let other people pair with other races while I discouraged her to do the same. He leans against the mailbox, rubbing his ridged forehead.

I thought about doing this... but I wanted to wait until Celes and I get better. No matter. Nobody's fooled now. Maybe if I do this now, people will stop worrying about me and focus on the business. Others' love is endangered. I better defend them.

He opens the door and walks inside. He spots his daughters playing on a blanket laid on the floor, with little dolls, building blocks, and rattles for them to play with. He smiles warmly. He makes one last glance at the poster as the frown returns, though it not with anger, but with determination.

Time to battle this hate-filled poster with my own... with a touch of love.

He kisses the girls tenderly before stepping around them. He heads straight to the desk behind them and gets straight to work.

((Kapre's response will be posted in the IC forum. It'll be up later.))

"What's this? Thani, is this something you put up?"

Something about the tone of voice struck Thani as odd. She dumped the tools she'd been cleaning back into the drawer, and bounded up the stairs of Deepriver Labs after the voice. It was Teremun at the door, of course; poster in hand, with shred-marks where it was forcibly removed from the tacks. He handed it to her.

She read it, but it took a little while for the contents to sink in. By that point, she was chuckling.

"What in the name of- I mean, what is this supposed to be?"

"I don't know. It was on the door when I came in this morning."

Impure desecrations.. something-something.. dwarves and elves.. humans and elves.. Orcs and elves getting married.. no viable offspring... get out there and have babies.. something and so on.

“Maybe this is what Sehinu meant about new entertainment in Silvermoon. Those people do have a point, though." She handed it back to him. "About everyone going for the atypical stuff, and not having any children.”

"It's still none of their business." A pause. "Forget the Light, the government of Silvermoon, and the Regent of Quel'thalas; whoever took the time to write this bit of directive is clearly the supreme moral and legal authority of the Sin'dorei. If you don't breed, then you're just Alliance-sympathizing scum. Never mind the fact that no true Sin'dorei would let regulations rule their lives."

Thani was left blinking, confused for all of five seconds. She hadn't quite expected sarcasm. It wasn't something Teremun resorted to often.

"Someone hasn't had their morning tea yet."

And thus the day was started with a rousing argument.

As per his orders, Tibalan rushes to the business board in Ratchet. He eyes the posters there, some signed, others vandalized. He frowns as he rips down a few, glad his mail has reached his boss in time.

Riael, he thinks to himself, a small smile reaching across his muzzle. I wonder if you saw this. I wonder how you'd react... or not.

Time to work.

He opens up the package and begins setting up the frame and glass case on his business' arranged spot. He slips the poster inside then seals it in, the key turned to protect it from vandalization. Kapre covered his bases, and the Tauren is glad. At last, he places the portable mailbox just below the case. It is programmed to go straight to Administration.

I hope this works, he thought. For everyone's sake. No one needs this hate. I wish you can see this for yourself, Mother. I really do.

He walks away, proud of his work, his hat tilted to cover his eyes.

The Love Exchange Q&A board has been set up.

The posters seem to have multiplied.

Specifically, the offensive ones. The bulk of them are around the 'original' posters, while the remainder have been placed in locations easily accessible to pedestrians. One of them has been left with a word on the back.

Meta

The first Thalassian character in the word has been warped slightly. It's still readable, but now it also resembles a leering smiley-face.

Walking through the city was now a painful ordeal for Leron Silverfang. Looking at all of the posters made him physically ill. The words nothing more than a plague to him.

Damn closed minded extremists... They're going to pollute my son's brain with their senseless garbage.

He stares at a wall lined with the posters, his face twisted with utter disgust. There was that horrible feeling in his gut again. All of this hate mongering. It was the opposite of the freedom and equality his house stood by. He put a finger to the poster, at first over the man's face as he eyed the woman with his single eye "Now, now. Everyone has a story, don't they? What's yours, miss? Did you chose this man here..." he moved his finger from the man's face "Because you wanted to? Or because some sign told you? And what if you, sir?" he placed his finger upon the woman's face again to peer at the man "Did you chose to be with that woman out of the desire in your heart or because society said so?"

He snorted, moving his hand away from the poster and flicking his wrist as if to remove the hateful filth from his hand. "One does not care for the story, apparently. They don't care about the characters and their journey. No, apparently they do not. These hate mongers simply want to force their views of the end down the throats of others. Those of us who do care of the characters and their plight to be stuck under their foot and do as they say. This," he pointed a finger at the poster "this right here is why I fought to regain power for the family. To help those of us who have a brain in our head and can think for ourselves. For those who have a story..." he looked to the wedding ring on his hand "And those who want to protect the ones this poster says we should remove..."

Leron clenched the ringed hand into a fist, shaking it at the poster "You see this? This is something that you hate mongers can never have for yourselves or begin to understand! Love in its truest form! When you don't have society telling you the sole purpose of the union being to reproduce! This I will not let you take from me, my dearest Salor, or any of our people!" He paused, looking around silently. He was alone in this alleyway. "Why is it I always have the best speeches when no one is around? Damn, I should hire a scribe to follow me..." He sulks away without another word to return to his beloved who just happened to be a male also.

Zeein stood against a nearby building as Leron made his speech. The darkness of his cowl covered his face as he watched him speak.

"I heard you, Sovereign." He said softly as his boss walked away. His tone was quiet and not loud enough for Leron to hear him. He could feel his anger rising as he read the poster to himself silently. Zeein shook his head in shame, "We are Sin'dorei.. united regardless of what we do in the bedroom." He said with a sigh.

Drakewing stared at the poster for a long time before taking out a piece of charcoal out and writes the following.

"Homophobes, there is nothing wrong when it comes to love." He wrote and crudely initialed Z.D. next to what he wrote.

A young looking, grinning, positively handsome Blood Elf strolls through Silvermoon like he owns the place. A poster about sex- or as his noble kin might put it mating- catches Thalion's eye, and he immediately goes to read it.

After he finishes reading, he sighs and speaks with an over the top melodramatic tone, "Hm...I guess it's up to me to make up for the difference. Ah, why must the world's burdens fall to me?"

"What's one poster going to do about people's preferences, anyways? It's like putting up a poster asking Trolls to bathe." He thinks to himself as he walks off.

Gadgetzan.

The noon sung hung high in the desert's azure dome. The goblin town's buildings shimmered near white in the heat, air wavering off of flat surfaces.

On top of the flat surface one of these buildings squatted a human female garbed in white long coat, black-brown hair concealed in her white and gold-lined cloaked wrapped around her head. Goggles, reflecting the sun, hid her violet eyes.

Hidden eyes were set on a couple elves checking a particular poster glued to a wall of the town. They appeared disappointed with the lack of signatures way out in the sandy boondocks of Tanaris.

Zzzzt. A lens of the goggles twisted and extended out, zooming in on the pair. Pink lips, chapped from the desert heat, smirked.

"Who are you..." She whispered to herself, starting to grin. She did love to spy. Especially on those who counted their perception so high. She blended in near perfectly, white against white in the searing sun.

A soft chuckle. No movements on her part, besides an idle shifting of her position to prevent a limb from falling asleep. The finger of her left hand traced an idle pattern in the layer of sand atop the roof. A soft, metallic scratching scrape followed it.

Even if Zariel and I didn't work out, this push for purity is...hm. So many variables they didn't think of. It seems sudden, unplanned.

I hope Tress and Aenyris remain safe. These posters upset him, but he does love her so. I don't know if I can make my cousin smile like she does.

She tilted her head. Pondering. Plotting. She grinned again, right hand flicking to her belt, then away as something is clutched. A gun. A thin, odd gun. It is loaded. Then fired at the poster between the two elves, who yelp in surprise as the dart hits the paper.

Confetti. Hearts. White streamers explode from the compressed air dart that just hit its mark.

After spitting confetti out of their mouths and frantically cleansing their hair of the unclean paper, they wheel around to find the assailant.

All they see is a swish of white falling off the back of a building. Sand, or a cloak?
