Felfire Feedback
#1
So, I am curious: Recently I've begun to re tool the format of the Felfire Club. I've removed the social events usually attached to the debate in favor of more opportunities for casual roleplay. As I and others have noticed, while the events garner large crowds, people rarely roleplay afterwards, which defeats the purpose of holding a non combat event.

While I am interested in hearing people's reactions to the cutting of the social events, I am also curious about what people think of the event as a whole.

What are your thoughts on the new location? Would you like to see it somewhere where warlocks and shadow priests can be more 'open'?

What are your thoughts on the topics? Can they be changed in any way? Should they be?

How am I doing on organization? Are the events easy to participate in?

What would you like to see added? What should be included.

As always, I appreciate honesty. The more feedback I receive the better this event will become.

I still love the Felfire events, mind you, and I do my best to attend no matter what. I do miss the social events afterward, though if you're aching for ideas, asking for opinions and suggestions don't hurt at all. Otherwise, I won't demand them back--their removal did seem to succeed in extending the debate period, so whether or not you wish to focus moreso on the debates or on the general social aspect of the event as a whole is up to you.

I do have some criticism: the location. I do like the choice of the Arena as it's much more spacious as far as neutral locations go... but I feel it doesn't recapture the general spirit of the Felfire debates as far as atmosphere goes. The good thing about the Catacombs is that the atmosphere is cozy and even luxurious, allowing the player the incentive of immersion for intellectual speech. The Underbelly, on the other hand, gives an atmosphere for a free-for-all brawl, and the fact that this is intellectual debate gives an impression that something dangerous or violent could happen at any time. Sadly, I'm short on an alternative as the new location.

Long story short: Miss the after events, not fond of the Underbelly's Arena as the new location, but still love Felfire. If you wish for a different location, I can probably try scouting around. Dalaran may have a good place for debate, but finding out where can be a good challenge.

I've been considering trying to refurbish the Dalaran arena as a club of sorts. You know, the place right under that drain.

I agree about the events. Sadly, after prepping, organizing and hosting, I really don't have the patience to sink another hour and a half into hosting a -second- event. That's four hours of solid role-play. If we brought the events back, I'd probably be organizing something where each week a group or player hosts something after my event.

That would be lovely, actually. I had been thinking of using the Deadwind's revamped Master's Cellar, but that is A) Far away ICly, B) Not furnished for social events and C) Already well-used.

A tavern down below would be lovely. Though you'd have to be careful with emote range; I know that all of the Arena chatter can be heard (Annoyingly so) in upper Central Dalaran.

Right. I'm pretty sure I attended all the debates so far on Matthew (as your goblin commented today). Wish I could have stayed around for the rest of the "Evil classes" debate, but life decides to throw life things in my face.

The new location is a plus. Dalaran was not a place for a nice warlock or shadow priest to be himself. The only thing the cellar could use is more pillows so that we don't have to sit next to heretical worgen and filthy warlocks. Perhaps some statues to Varian Wrynn...

There have been four debates so far? Goblin/worgen, Fourth War, dating, and evil classes? Of all of those topics, the interracial/interfactional dating was the only bad one. The other three topics provide more of an Us vs. Them mentality in the debates, and I think we need more topics like that in order to have more equal opposition in the topics (with those who were against interracial/interfactional dating being dwarfed by those for it).

I'm curious about the limit of two emotes. I feel like I could type 3-4 emotes on a topic, but I have to stop at 2 and have my character raise his hand again just to finish his point.

Beyond that, debates have been fun. Thanks for the great RP for Matthew.

I've just recently joined this community and last night I partook in this event. My personal opinion of this would be it is excellent. Relaxing and works out well. But. I don't feel like the two emote limit should be there. As someone mentioned above, expand it to three or four. When people get interested into the debate and it takes its heated course. People are bound to make mistakes.

You run this very well. Most of the time I was thinking something bad is gonna happen, but nop. Everyone kept calm , relaxed and debated. Which was a surprise to me. I loved the relaxed roleplay within it. Even tho I did not contribute much. I didn't know what to say really. Even so, I'd come again any day. Yes even if I don't have much to say.

I completely agree on the Us vs. Them mentality. The only challenge is to find topics that can create that.

The emote limit is something I've been chewing over for a while. But I do want to justify it briefly: The two emote limit helps keep things accessible and fluid. More than two emotes take more time to write and to read. They clutter the small text screen too much and bump posts out of view of people. Three posts is just unwieldy.

All of those things are minor, admittedly. But I really don't see the benefits outweighing the costs. Anything that can be said can be said in two emotes. That is, after all, nearly a hundred words and five hundred and ten characters.

If enough people feel strongly about it, though, I can try the next Felfire Debate with a three emote maximum.

My suggestion would be this:

At the start of Felfire, everyone goes in a line order, starting from one person and ending at them. During this first run, players can get out their full opinion without addressing others. Just saying their own opinion. Then, after the first 'round', starts the two-emote limit responses to the discussion.

For example:

There are four players in the spot. Reigen, Roux, Valda and Mathias. Reigen starts first, puts out three emotes as to her opinion. Roux goes next, putting out one line, but none of it responds to Reigen. Valda goes on a long-winded rant of 5 emotes, but still doesn't respond to either Reigen of Roux. Finally Mathias, like the whipped man he is, just nods to Valda's opinion.

Then, after that is done, they can start addressing the points the others made via the hand-raising system. This also partly rewards people who show up on time.

Otherwise, I've been having oodles of fun so far.

Just giving this a bump; still interested in seeing how people like the events/if they would like to see the socializing events to return before/after the debate.
