Oh, don't get me wrong -- I'm utterly in favor of trust fighting. It's far more, well... in the spirit of roleplay than roll fighting.
I'd like to say that I loathe and despise trust fights with every fiber of my being...but that would leave me with no words to describe how I feel about Retail's PvP system.

Trust fights only work in two cases:

1. Where both sides can agree on an outcome before-hand, especially if the outcome is planned for the RP that comes from it.
2. Where both sides are good friends that can trust each other to RP out the fight realistically.

Otherwise, they are the single largest drama-magnets in RP anywhere. Even when death is not the result of a fight, no one wants to lose. I've observed this not just on CotH, but nearly every RP community I've ever been a part of.

That's why we have /rolls. Another, more complicated and in-depth system would be nice, but it's hard to have that and still be fair to everyone at the same time.

Agreed there, I'm personally hoping for the GHI system, but I couldn't have said it much better then you Grak. Trust fights never, ever work if you two aren't familiar as friends. Not the kind of "hey I talked to you" friends but real friends, people you actually know longer then a day or two. If not, the system basically gets abused and changed continuously in favor to both sides till there's actually no way out of it anymore on one side.

I admit that rolling is just a matter of chance and doesn't always make sense, but it's better then "trusting" a random person to have a "proper" fight. That's just not working. Just my 2 cents on this subject and why I personally do not fight "trust" ones.
Personally, I prefer either kind of combat system, but there are only a few select people here I would Trust-RP with, but that's only because I've had the chance to know them since I joined the server.

Other than that, the /roll system, or the GHI system work well for me.

I agree, that constantly happens. It's sad to say, but I've grown from doing it that way; doing 'attempts', giving the player an opportunity to defend themselves - which usually works pretty decently.
I agree with Greth, but I think that, if anything, people need to accept that it's mainly a matter of who you're trusting with.

Yes, people do want to keep their character alive, but I think that a healthy combination of trusting and rolls would be just as good.

For instance, the other day my troll was in an arena fight and it was mainly trusting, but part way through I needed to leave, so we decided to settle the ending with a roll.

The point?

Having the entire fight be roll-based leaves it too much to luck, but keeping it to trust leaves it too OP on both sides.

The solution would be to get some kind of balance. Rather than having a defense roll being higher mean a miss, maybe the hit was just not as hard? Or maybe your OP crit could be lessened if you are in fact, a barmaid fighting against a Death Knight?

I prefer to trust with everyone I meet, and roll as necessary. But hey, that's just me.

Agreed. I've come from role playing in SA-MP, and we use all 'attempts' when attacking; other than shooting of course. I've never really liked the rolling, probably because I'm not used to it.
Not wanna cut in but could you guys shift focus towards the system I mentioned and what Duskwolf is doing( GHI Combat)?
Trust RP is something many people may or may not be comfortable with, but again that isn't the issue as its an altogether different way of doing RP-fight.
Thanks.
Well, I like to come back on my previous statement a bit. Had my first "trust rp" yesterday with several new recruits from the Lions League which actually worked quite well. But I still don't see myself using the system in a matter of life and death, for trainings or such when it's obvious a officer is superior.. it seems to work alright.
