See, that's where Vin and Khardona differ. Vin is that way almost to being like a Scarlet Crusader. Khardona doesn't give a damn what the other deathknights do, as long as they aren't killing their own faction and abrubtly killing others. He keeps tabs on some of the more unstable DK's, but mostly he "hunts down" other Deathknights to help guide them, usually to Archerus to be able to understand what they are all about.

Honestly, he'd probably slap the tar out of Vincent if he said "ALL DK'S TO NORTHREND", since Khardona knows that it'd be a pretty silly effort for all of the DK's to be concentrated in only one place.

But again, that's all personal preferance. Heh.

Our guild was brought up, so we decided to interject in the area's that were discussed. It wasn't off topic, nor an arguement, just an example on what the leadership has made the guild into.

As for time lengths, the major events that also are on live share the same timeline as on live, so it's been about... a year or so since the major DK events?

What I'm mainly looking for is how many years to claim she had been a Death Knight. The absolute max would be when Arthas first started creating them to the present year. The minimum would be not long before the battle of Light's Hope Chapel to the present year.

I ask because all the stuff I've seen is rather screwy looking.

One timeline had it set up so about 6 years had passed between WoW Classic and the beginning of WotLK. Another had it closer to 10 or 12.

I'm not sure what to trust. x_x

It's about two years since the end of WoW Classic, each expansion has added one year.

So the duration of WoW Classic and Frozen Throne was roughly four years?

So basically, Arthas became the Lich King during Frozen Throne, so for my character to be a Death Knight, roughly I could have been one for up to 6 years, if I were one of the first Arthas created? But I should be at a minimum 1 year, to be one of the ones that was done for Light's Hope Chapel?

Edit: I felt the need to add this, because of certain circumstances.

I figure that those more knowledge, and having played the game longer, could have some idea as to the ranks surrounding the nobility in Stormwind.

I'm aware of a number of titles used in the British ranks of nobility. However, my order of their powers have never been precise.

I figured that Baron was higher on the list, but apparently it's near the bottom. ((So much for Baron Rivendare being one of the higher ups...))

Anyways, the way they go is this, using the British style...

Knight / Dame
Baron / Baroness
Viscount / Viscountess
Count or Earl / Countess
Marquess / Marchioness

Originally, I had intended for my character's father to have been a Marquess, with her to inherit the title of Marchioness. But now I see that it's of a higher rank than Baron, which may or may not prove to be troubling.

I was just wondering if anyone has seen any sourcebook material on the ranks associated with nobility in Stormwind? I've seen that there are Lords and Ladies, and a Count, but other than that, these titles really haven't cropped up. I believe there's a Dame character in there, and I know Baron Rivendare is there.

I guess this question is mainly for Grakor or Kretol. Would it be alright to work into her history the former title of Marchioness? Or would you prefer I used one of the lesser titles. I ask primarily so I know how to arrange the history, even though none of it is going to apply to the character. I rather doubt Varian would allow a Death Knight noble in his ranks, no matter how they are trusted. And my character probably would have lost interest in the position within Stormwind, given her new status.

For my part, if I had to choose, it'd be Marchioness, I just like the sound of it, rather than the power. However Dame, Countess, or Baroness could work just as easily to me. So I leave it in the hands of the boss people.

As far as I know they didn't start "making" death knights until a few months before WotLK, so unless your character would be one of the few paladins to have sworn themselves to the Lich King he'd not have been one for that long.

Oh, I thought Arthas spent some time building up the forces. x_x

I haven't read it (I am far too tired of these books based on games, so I read a few articles from people who have and could tell what it was about), but I hear that in the novel "Arthas: Rise of the Lich King" you get an idea of what Arthas has been doing for all the years since the Frozen Throne game, apparantly, he has been sleeping. Interestingly enough in WoW you get the chance to meet the boy twice, pretty cool. If you wanna know more about it I suggest that you either read the book, or I could try to find that article from that person (think it was "MedievelDragon" from Blizzplanet) and link it to you. Also, don't be fooled by the hope-filled ending of that excerpt, horrible stuff awaits, hehe.

For the title, I think it is better to stay with the "lower" ones for the simple fact that we don't want player to start out teribbly high up, this is to prevent situations where one character obviously would be more priveliged, I doubt for an example that the guards would hold the words of a commoner higher than that of Marquess/Count, it could add cool RP, sure, but it is way to easy for people to powergame with it.

An idea could be to simply say that the character came from a lower noble family, not really being specific about titles and such, and thus only giving the character the right to stick their nose in the air but not much else.

I also believe it to be a lot easier to explain why the daughter of a low noble was out getting killed/recruited by the Lich King's troops than to find a way for a character who logically should be locked up with the rest of the noblesse.

Well, for the title. I don't see it as starting high up.

Basically it'd be like this:

~During the human life~
She was the daughter of a noble, on his death, she was to inherit, since she was the only offspring. There was some bit of lands involved, and an amount of money.

~After getting tagged by Arthas~
All of the above is gone. Officially she's seen as dead by the government of Stormwind, and since she's been with the Lich King for a while, those lands that were formerly to be hers would have been doled out to others.

She can't return to Stormwind to reclaim any of this, after all, who is going to support her in this? And it's ultimately the King's decision, and that's not likely to happen.

So she has resigned herself to being a Death Knight and doing her thing now. The only solace she has left is on formal occasions, when she retains her noble titles and demeanor. Other than that, that's pretty much all she has.

There is no inheritance, they assumed she was dead, so it was stuffed into the treasury of Stormwind.

It's all gone except for the family name, and her own personal nobility, and the solace of keeping the title.

Think of it as sort of a title in name only. Kept alive primarily through her will. Possibly used as a term of respect by those who serve with her.

Well, in all honestly it just seems like a cheap way to mark the character as special with a high title and such, and I can't see what it would add to the character that a lower title couldn't do just as well.

An alternative could be to claim the title, it isn't uncommon among the undead to not remember who they were in life, so many simply adopt names from tombstones or make them up themselves, perhaps your character have created a whole persona and fashioned new memories around vague hints of noble birth; maybe a crest found on her clothes/armour? Could be really cool if done well, and add some interesting RP hooks if she would meet someone who knew her from her "old life" or ever tries to find the truth about her family, giving her a really low social status could then be interesting, maybe she served some Marquess?

Heh, feel free to disregard the last part, it was just me rambling on about some idea that struck me.

Question here, would it be possible to run away durring the Brain Washing part of your Death Knights training? I read somewhere that renegades were hunted down by the Scourge, but is this something actually in lore or isn't it?

I just speed read through a copy of that Rise of the Lich King story.

It's pretty much just a retelling of the events that took place during Warcraft III.

Arthas is a kid, becomes a Paladin, slaughters the humans, becomes a Death Knight, etc etc.

The end of the book has a small bit where he's finally woke up from the few years he was dreaming. I'm not entirely sure about the time frame in regards to World of Warcraft.

From all accounts I've read, he slept for a few years, which would probably make it about 1 year before Burning Crusade's events.

Anyways, the book was good, but doesn't really offer much knowledge in the way of events from after he wakes up, to present time.

Aye, but as we see he woke up not too long ago, so he haven't had all those years to prepare which might explain why he decided to mass-produce the Acherus knights in the first place.
