First and foremost: Tell us about yourself, as a player.:
I'm a long time roleplayer and have been roleplaying since I first ran across the hobby at the age of 8. A friend of my parents' came across the original D&D and thought it would be fun to run the adventure included with it. That's right, my first roleplay session was with my parents who are in no way, shape or form geeks. Of course it was more board game and rolling dice than roleplaying, but I fell in love with it and have been involved with roleplaying games ever since.
I like everything. I've played every genre, designed my own games and collected every interesting rpg book I could get my hands on. Even the ones I've never played are just fun to read about and see the ideas their authors put into them.
As a player I stay open-minded and supportive of others' ideas. I never cease to be amazed at all the great ideas people come up with for their storylines and histories.

What country do you come from? What is your primary language?
I'm from Canada and speak English, although I know a smattering of french as well.

How did you get into Warcraft?:
Like so many others, I was suckered in by the free trial and good friends that already played. I'd played through the RTS games of Warcraft but simply hadn't been interested in paying a monthly fee for any game. Three years later I still fork over the 13 bucks a month, but I'd have left long ago if it weren't for the amazing friends you end up making while playing this game.

What made you seek our server over others?:
Well, the state of rp on Blizzard's servers is heavily lacking, in large part due to the fact that the rules are rarely enforced and require players themselves to confront the rule breakers before a gm will even consider looking at the issue. I love the two servers I play on but keeping a consistent rp feel with names and public chat is an uphill battle that is mostly on the losing side. With that in mind I threw a search out on Google to see if any of the free servers offered roleplaying settings and stumbled across this server's website. Application forms? GMs that enforce the rp rules even if someone hasn't asked them to? Sounds like a good start!

What kinds of roleplay do you enjoy?:
I prefer to mix it up. Sitting around discussing things in-character is fun, but only if it's broken up with more action based roleplaying. Large groups for roleplaying can certainly be fun, although the individuals within that group tend to end up interacting with each other in smaller groups or pairings during the events.
For me it's mostly about managibility and making sure everyone gets face time. There's nothing worse than people getting left out because they might be a bit more shy while others in a group might be more extroverted. I like groups, but prefer they be within limits that allow that sort of regular participation for the players involved. Having said that of course, there's still nothing quite like rping large scale battles.

What is your favorite race/class? Why?:
I don't have one. The reason for that is because I like variety. I play every class and have characters of every race. I haven't found one that I dislike yet.
My first real WoW character was an undead warlock, so I have a special place in my heart for that class and race because it was the one I experienced so many firsts on, but I honestly have no real preference except towards whatever would make for an interesting character.

What are your expectations of this server?:
Expectations? I don't have any. What I have is hopes. I hope to not see any "iownulol"s running around or people discussing the last Lakers game in the Orgrimmar bank. GMs that enforce those sort of rules. Other than that I'm coming into it all with a wait-and-see attitude. I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Out of all of our rules and regulations listed on our server, which appeals to you the most?:
I like the tolerance and respect rules the most. I have a good, thick skin when it comes to just about anything but I've always felt bad when other people are being griefed and there's nothing that anyone can do about it because it just happens to fall into some gray area not recognized by the GMs. The rules on this server seem to be very comprehensive and took into account certain things that I wasn't even expecting to be dealt with such as rape, a touchy subject for some but not considered taboo in the eyes of Blizz.

Lastly, tell us a story! It can be short, it can be long; but most importantly, we want to see your work in action. Go!:
Following is the beginning of the story for a character I played previously. I include it not to apply for Gruntship but merely to illustrate that I do indeed enjoy roleplaying and writing stories:
CHAMPION

Excerpt from the Journal of Bolvi:

…said they are preparing the last of the fleet to set sail two days hence. We're holding the rear line now, wave after unending wave of undying horrors drive themselves against our slowly faltering rearguard. By the Nameless these Scarlet warriors fight like demons to protect their escaping brethren and holy leaders. If not for their nigh insane devotion, I'm sure their morale would have broken like ship against unyielding ‘berg.

If we can last one more day, the unit I've been attached to will be heading quickly for the makeshift docks to depart for a land I've never even seen, except on the maps of my former masters and tormentors. To hope is almost too much to bear, I have never known a freedom more than this current battle. Only one more day and I will be headed to the homeland of these brave men and women I have allied myself with.

Hope against hope, perhaps I can find my child, but where to…

End excerpt from the Journal of Bolvi.

The man woke, suddenly and without warning. Bolt upright and feeling a slight chill that was all too noticeable in his drafty quarters, he had only the time to consider if the screaming in his ears, mere moments passed, was in his dream or had issued from his own mouth.

The heavily built man slid his legs off of his cot and rested his feet on the cold, dusty floor of his threadbare room. His hands trembled slightly as he steadied himself in the waking world where the ghosts of his nightmares slowly lost their grip upon him and fell back to the recesses of more shadowy realms.

He looked up at the sound of a soft knock on the door to his room. He grunted quietly, an oft used signal that whatever visitor had come was welcome to enter.

“Bolvi.” Brother Herodius greeted after closing the door quietly behind him.

“Herodius”

Brother Herodius sat next to Bolvi on the cot.

“Are you certain you wish to go? Still your nights are troubled by these dreams. You know you're welcome here for as long as you like.”

“I can't stay here forever, Herodius. You've all been as kind as anyone could hope for, but my questions aren't being answered any quicker by hiding here amongst you. It's been years now and my memory is still lost to me. This,” he picked up a battered and well read looking leatherbound journal from his makeshift bedside table, “is telling me only pieces of a past life. It's not enough. How can I ever know who I am if I don't know where I've been, what I've done?”

“We know who you are Bolvi. No one works longer in the field or harder to make our small crops grow. None that have ever stayed here have fought as you do to protect our small monastery from the dangers outside its walls. It is not a perfect life, but you have found a measure of peace here, have you not? You've told me what's in that book and it doesn't sound like anything in your past is worth reawakening. Let the past lie, start a new path.”

“Thank you, brother. But I've made up my mind. Too many nightmares that I can't remember upon waking, too many unanswered questions about my past, too many… far too many.”

The monk shifted uneasily at the fervor that Bolvi spoke with. He had known, somehow, that the messenger that had come one week past would be trouble. He had also known who the message would be trouble for.

“Well then,” he said, taking a more upbeat tone of voice, “we'll just have to keep you in our prayers. In the meantime, I've found you some traveling leathers. I can only hope they fit!”

Herodius set the package in the bed space between them. Bolvi smiled a wide, good-natured smile and gave the monk a healthy slap on the back.

“Thank you, Herodius. I'll miss your council and friendship. Hopefully my travels bring me back here, in time. But the sun is rising and my escort should be here soon. I'd best get ready.”

The brother nodded, quickly bowed and left the room as quietly as he had entered.

Sighing, Bolvi stood and grabbed his new clothes from the bed. He stood tall, his battle-scarred body looking as solid as the steel that had pierced his flesh in so many places in battles he no longer remembered. Drawing his long, grey hair into a ponytail behind his head, he began donning the new garments. They fit well, he thought. He would have to thank brother Herodius for taking such effort in finding them. He knew they would not have come without expense for the poor monks of the monastery.

Bolvi finished lacing up the hard leather pants and grabbed his swords from their place on the wall. He looked each of them over to make sure they were in good condition – tho he knew well they would be – and strapped the scabbards around his waist. Grabbing his backpack from its place at the end of his cot, he hastily shoved his journal into the sack, tied off the top and threw it over his shoulder. He moved to the door and took one last look at the room that had been his home for the past few years. It was small, barely enough room to get up and serve yourself a cup of tea in. It's hard packed walls of mud and hay were old and familiar, as was the small barred window above the bed. How many sunrises had he seen stream through it, dragging a small box of light across the opposing wall as the day wore on. In fact, it was the only home he could remember having, the monks the only family and friends he could remember the faces of, the hills surrounding their small place in the world the only lands he knew of…

Irrelevant

Bolvi resisted the urge to look around for the source of that voice. Like it always did, it sounded like a whisper or a stray thought. And always in a voice that was his, yet somehow not his.

He grabbed ahold of the door handle to mask the slight shake in his hands and hurriedly exited the room.

He had a long journey ahead of him, best not to waste any more time.

Is there anything else you would like to add, ask, or otherwise clarify?:
Only that I look forward to taking a look at your server and seeing what it's all about. I have several friends that may very well be interested in applying as well if it turns out to be the safe haven for roleplaying that I'm hoping it will be. It should be very interesting!
