That's... Very inspirational, but the whole "issue" is an extremely minor complaint. It's like asking the FBI to crack down on gum chewing in schools.

No. Absolutely not. If it was server wide, the program would constantly say that "this guy is typing and this guy and this guy and this guy." This is becasue such a program could have no way of knowing who you want to see is typing. You could probably add range to it, but that would take a SHITload of work. Maybe one could make a version that just works in a party. That, I think, is possible. But I doubt anyone here has the knowledge on how to make it.

realistic. You may think we're being negative, but I think that that may be because our opinions differ from yours.
Yes, we all realize that this could be of help to a lot of people. Not everyone feels that it would be beneficial, but some do. I will concede that point.
However, again, it's a matter of determining if the effort required to make this work is worth the benefit that people who use it would gain. Overall, it probably isn't. We would need to have people dedicated to making this work. If it's a server-side application rather than an addon, that would mean involving the staff (mostly likely Kretol as well). It would have to be coded and tested. The server would probably need to go down. We don't know what kind of impact the code would have on the server.
Overall, the benefit gained from people who would use it is very minimal -- especially since a number of people have posted alternatives to help deal with the underlying problem (it takes too long to reply?). A number of simple and eloquent solutions have already been posted.
And, Clovis mentioned the WoW IM addon. I believe that the conversations held there are in entirely different windows. Why not start using that? Since whispers are in entirely different windows, I believe that you can switch from typing in the textbox to a chat window without losing the content of your current emote or reply.
Check out the video to see what I mean.
WoW IM would be good for this, as said before.
Just my two cents on this thread that is getting very long, I know a good amount about addons and scripting in wow and as nice and cool as this would be. I can't think of one way to make it happen. I am thinking it would have to be something that bliz puts into the programing of the game. I will keep my eyes open for a possibility for this to work, but I am not hopeful.
Edit: My one idea would be to make an addon that recognizes weather or not some one has there typing window thingy open or not. I am not even sure what Bliz calls that thing so it is making it hard to figure out if it can be done or not. I am not sure if

Just not plausible. Your only argument for it seems to be "It's hard, but I want it."
I too agree it would be cool to have, but I think the cons (the fact that it'd be a major server edit, the fact that it would require quite a bit of custom scripting, and the fact that it would only serve to correct a minor annoyance) outweigh the pros in this situation (It'd be cool. It would help said minor annoyance... that's about it.)
