You could also perhaps try using the WoW Repair tool, however your realm list will need to be reset.
Well I've now gotten past why I can't get on normal servers cause they are obviously down, but the Private isn't working and I've used the repair at least 4 times now

if EU make sure you've renamed all your files back to EU

its all about going over and over and over everything you've done it may take a while but you will work it out, i always do it just takes a while for me to realize;p

Ran repair, set my realmlist back, nothing.
Ensure you don't have a second realmlist in Data/enUS (or whatever your locale is).
Alright, the problem is that he has the patch different from the servers, basically you need to either downpatch or just wait for the server to update to the current patch.
The server is at 3.3.5 and there is only one realmlist.

Retail is 3.3.5. Conquest of the Horde is 3.3.5. There is no disparity currently.
Edit: Are you logging in using WoW.exe and
not the launcher? The launcher will automatically attempt to connect with retail servers, even if the realmlist specifies otherwise.
