I've elaborated a bit on my feelings of the subject in my guide. I've honestly in the past few years seen very little success with people creating their own magic aside from that used in a prestige class here on CoTH, and I simply don't wish for there to be confusion when it comes to this sort of thing. I really think the best idea is sort of what you seem to be doing with that last spell, and that's creating something from a spell that already exists and making it feesable.
However, in the case of like, Astral Projection you'd have a lot of people saying "You can't do that". I know, it's a fine line... but a lot of people here feel that they like to have the set of rules and restrictions in place by Blizzard to keep them from going overboard with stuff.
Other people just like to be pedantic asshats that interprit everything as wrong. Haha, hopefully I'm not being the latter here.
