Full Version: Talking demon orbs?

I've had this idea, about someone finding a mysterious item that started talking to him, and starting a cult. He would view this voice as his deity, not knowing that on the other end of the conversation is a demon, wanting to use the cult for his own agenda.

Now i'm just wondering, is this plausible or not? We know demons have tried to corrupt people in the past: The orcs for example. I'm having doubts wether it'd be accepted or not though thus I figured I'd post it here and see what people think.
Well, they tend to try to corrupt -important- people, or a lot of people
So some random guy with a sword and shield in Ratchet wouldn't get this.
Ofcourse. But what if the orb was meant for someone else, they rejected it and someone else found it? Surely this would be better then nothing in a demon's book?
Or perhaps if it was picked up by a nobody, the demon could urge them to take the orb to a major city...once there it persuades him to get into trouble and gets him killed...passing the bauble from stronger to stronger person.
Just a thought.
Or maybe it's an imp imprisoned, who sees a chance to use some foolish human the way himself have been used in the past and thus impersonates the person's godhead. Oh, sweet revenge!

I think it could be interesting as long as you don't take it too far and communicate with archdemons or something, strive to keep things realistic to the setting. I doubt for instance that you'd find a bauble that let's you hear the voice of some high-ranking demon just about anywhere, and I'm not sure we want to see people in contact with high-ranking demons in the first place.
I thought about the imp thing! A cruel joke on a priest. :3
But yes, I was'nt planning on getting in contact with Kil'jaeden or the like.
I was thinking more along the lines of a Felguard or yes the cruel joke of an Imp.
Ehhh....felguard aren't very smart...so I don't think that'd work. A voidwalker or imp is your best bet.
Yeah Felguard's are just brutes. However there have been cases of Imps entrapped inside baubles, usually by their own Warlock Masters. The worse part about most of those trapped-imps is that said Bauble is lost somewhere and forgotten about.

So theoretically this is a plausible thing! Oh and you can't see the Imps either, I think it is because of the magical energy on the inside. But it is possible that one might do what Nostra mentioned. Pretending to be the 'X' of 'X' religion of your character.
Mhmmmm... Imp it is then!
Thanks for the help, though I was planning on starting a Cult, that would worship the demon in the orb as their deity, and doing it's bidding. Though I wonder... I've read that...
"Although their frames are tiny, they are able to store tremendous amounts of fel energy"
Could this fel energy not slowly be corrupting them?
