What our parents think are widely different.
My country is a mix-match of just about every single national ethnicity; We've had interracial couples dating since when slavery was abolished here on 1888, which was actually after the american civil war. (and before, I'd like to add, they still existed. But it's honestly not something I'd like to go on about here, because, well, the way those relationships were dealt with isn't exactly dinner conversation.)

Nonetheless, there still were. It's as I've said before. Back then, the ones that -felt- the attraction, repressed it, as it was something "Wrong". However, once the Civil War was over, there was no longer anything stopping them from acting on that attraction, so they did.

Blood elves and Draenei were enemies at the start.
However, with the SSO, and once the burning crusade was over, the blood elves allying themselves with the Sha'tar, what stops them from acting on that attraction? Pretty much nothing. (At least if you're an SSO Draenei or Blood Elf.)

The same can go to members of just about any race, or at least particular factions of (pretty much anyone that was in dalaran, earthen ring, and other similar cross-race alliances.)

Well, I think you're forgetting how many people's siblings/parents/family died because of these people. The large majority of profiles have someone dieing in the Third War alone, to some different thing. And the overall look they would receive. If someone finds out, or if you start struttin' around hand in hand, then people are going to notice.

I'd have to agree with Uthaniel at his former statement, humans, and other sentient beings, are too complicated to be categorized within general groups.

Though I do think the way you're taking this is a little off-subject... I see no connection between what I was raised around and what i'm attracted to, honestly. But in general, as a 'norm' of society, I am hopeful that my theory can apply.

But in general, what i'm trying to give off is... Well, think through your character's mind, not your own. When it comes to attractions, try to think of what your character would want, and not what you would want.

Guys, let's avoid doing this, please, because people can find it offensive. I happen to know for fact that there are people out there, IRL, who find Blizz's rendition of Tauren and Ogres attractive, not to mention Orcs, Goblins, Trolls, whatever. So, let's avoid saying "attraction to X from humans would be weird!" because someone could take offense, and sometimes folks just can't help what they're attracted to.

On the other hand, cultural implications are a big thing.

The western world of nowadays seems to have a blanket frown-upon when it comes to such things as discrimination.

I would cynically call it apart of human nature (or, at least, the nature of human ignorance) to hate and condemn something or other, as well.



Whether they'd like to admit it or not, a socially inclined sentience is going to care what at least some other thinks of it.

Popular opinion across Azeroth is rumored to positively loath the likes of the odious other, which is where I feel most are founding their complaints against a perceived disproportionate lack of faction hate.

I'm a total nerd who reads stuff on the underlying issues you guys are discussing for fun/school... So I thought I'd put in my two cents.

You guys, are sort of in a confusing little area of discussion. What is sexual attractive/arousing and what is culturally accepted/allowed... In other words a person's psychology and a person's society. Both of them effect each other and have interlinking crosses but its hard for any of us to really explain how either of them work... Why? Because we're sort of subject to their influences anyways (not very exact sciences these).

So Squirrel and Uthaniel, the disconnect I saw between your two arguments (and perhaps you've already recognized this) is that Squirrel's is mainly based on society and Uthaniel, yours focuses on psychology.

Regardless, to the topic of races in WoW and the the idea of attraction and relationships. In terms of both my problem has always been that I don't see many people actually take into account -both- the psychology and culture. Some players do nothing (which I dislike most). Some hide their relationship/attraction because they take into account the cultural aspect which I give major credit to any player for doing. But most people (In my experience) do lack reasoning other than 'We fell in love.' For me, I crave some sort of inner psychological reasoning. Could be:

1.) You do have some sort of cultural attachment to traits that are in this player (be it because you were exposed to that race's culture or the same traits are worshipped in your own)

2.) Neurosis (and note, I'm not speaking of it in the manner of 'mental disease' but the more Freudian conception of it where granted we are all mentally diseased but such illness is normal and sort of imposed upon all members of a society).

3.) Fetishism. See Uthaniel's list for more.

Of course, this is me with my nerd talk. Anyone could easily say none of this makes a difference when it comes to true love which many people don't believe can really be determined by the three qualitative factors I've listed or any other list of factors. I too am sadly a hopeless romantic who, while unable to accept being wrong, is unwilling to give up on the idea of 'love' as this other random factor of its own. (How contradictory I know).

So, tldr, everyone is right because the mind is so impossible to really comprehend that there isn't really anything that can't logically happen. However, I do really wish for people who do wish to defy the norm that they have a logical explanation.
