Items are simple because generally they stick with you if you're killed out in the boonies by some bandit, but people move around. It's the union of spirit and body that matter, and you can't come back without help if you can't find yourself. For instance, if a Shaman's body is annihilated in a pit of lava, there's no chance even the most loved spouse would be beacon enough to let them find their body from the spirit world. That thing is gone.

Then again, this gets into my "Warcraft cosmology puts importance on body and spirit" rant about relatively intact bodies or body parts being necessary vessels for resurrection, and no one wants that.

I imagine the scenario stated though couldn't happen, as I believe a rule on the server is you can't deny someone a resurrection.

The body can't be 100% destroyed to avert this, the workaround is that if the anhk was destroyed, another venue of resurrection would still be possible.
I've always wondered why the rule wasn't just:

-Don't desecrate or disintegrate peoples' bodies, because that would prevent common resurrection which depends on the spirit returning to something (common being non-Miracle, non-Wish). Work any death out another way to make the story fit, because you've already had to agree on it happening in the first place anyway.

At least that way you don't need to shoehorn in "common resurrection can create something from nothing" while still having people agree on a character kill beforehand. And then fun problems can arise from "But wait, he died and his body was burned according to battlefield custom (agreed-upon plot), how do we bring him back from the spirit world now?" Cue collecting 150 lbs of wood ashes or sculpting the character in effigy for a workable vessel to anchor the spirit.

The same way you can resurrect from bones in game by walking back to your corpse.
Though what's interesting is that your corpse is there until you walk back to it. It's your character lying there dead on the floor until you arrive, at which point you click "bring me back to life here" and then it turns into a bone pile and you're there good as new. If your body is gone, you can't revive where you died (lost off the map, stuck in impassible terrain, logged out in a fit of post-gank rage and it disappeared) and you need to appeal to the angels to miracle you back to life in a severely weakened state.

Actually, I've lost my "corpse" but still resurrected by just going back to the spot before. Still works, but makes it harder to find. Or maybe it was a glitch.
