I'm loathe to use something that is considered in-character (it is, correct? That's why it's called IC gold) for out-of-character purposes. It just seems to further blur the line between IC and OOC.
Nobody uses the IC coin anyway, the only situation I see it being put to use, is in Cressy's auctions. I myself for example, have about 50 IC gold spread across all my characters, and I have nothing to do with it.

I use it like crazy.
I have exactly 50g on Casey... no use for it.
I think it should be used IC, though. Otherwise you'd be getting a daily quest for gold that could be used for a never-ending ammount of tokens or whatever else you'd want to spend it on.

I don't think it's the fault of the IC gold system that people aren't finding reason to trade around that money ICly. I should start actually charging people IC money for drinks in the tavern, heh.
As I mentioned, there really -is- no good use for those coins. The .addrp command defeats much of their purpose, I'm afraid to say.

As it stands I feel that they could be -greatly- overused if made to fit such a system. And I echo the idea that I really don't like IC gold used for OOC purposes. It just feels... kinda strange, really.
Dunno about anyone else...

But I use the levels to get spells and abilities and talents for IC reference.

Because playing a character who is a shadow priest, and having NO shadow spells or talents just feels -wrong-.
Pretty much what Cappn said.

You aren't using it for an OOC reason.

It's the same thing as spending IC gold so that you can have cat form to use IC.

and by -the same thing- I mean... that's one of the uses.
I've never felt that way. Mostly because to me... how would that then explain me playing the level whatever character for a few weeks then suddenly getting leveled?

If that's how everyone sees "Levels" then why don't more people forgo getting leveled by GMs?

I... don't quite understand, I'm afraid.

I've never heard of using IC gold for cat form; and you don't actually use coin to buy cat form. All training is free.

But even then how does that justify that argument? Using OOC gold to get stuff ICly isn't the same as using IC gold for an OOC purpose.

Not all currency is really relative. You can use real money to buy tokens at an arcade or to buy from a grocery store. You don't take your Chuck E. Cheese tokens and then try and buy your groceries with them. Just as you can buy both OOC (leveling tokens) and IC (gear, spells) stuff with OOC gold, but can only buy IC things with IC gold.

My, that metaphor is convoluted. Hopefully the point is there though.

I'm not certain if this is unique to the profession, but I do recall running into issues leveling cooking a month or so back. Even though it was free to train, I needed to have the requisite amount of gold on my person that the profession training would normally require.

I'm not big on training so I can't tell you if it's something that occurs with character class training, but it just popped up into my head!

That said, I maintain the stance that we should use IC gold for IC purposes. I don't think that the solution is to expand their purview but instead find more ways to use the gold ICly.
Ex-actly.

That's it, charging -everyone- for stuff in my bar, ICly!

Get an IC job, you slobs!

Hey! Hey Rensin! Hey! Rensin! Hey! Hey! Hey! Rensin!

Where's Pygan's pay?
*Runs away very quickly.*
Yeaaaah don't think you guys got what I mean XD

I said it's -same as- buying cat form with IC money, but didn't mean literally the same thing.

Not literally giving up IC money and getting cat form in return.

You buy the token, which in turn allows you to get cat form.

And I don't know where that came form Rensin... Levels don't mean anything IC.

However, things that do have IC purpose such as shadowform, cat form, and all that... require certain levels. If you could get those levels with IC gold then you are indirectly using IC gold for IC purposes.
