There are people who are just horrible at school. People who just can't get into it. People who can't be cowed into submission by the system. School isn't the same as it used to be, it is all about tests and getting good scores and attendance so they acquire more funding. Did you know that the more people who get free lunch at school, the more money the school gets, too? Schools compete for special needs children, as well. Special Ed classes are expensive, but they are given a surplus of funds to pocket after paying for Special ed classrooms and teachers.
I feel the school system has too many bugs, to be worth it. Here is San Diego, we have a thing called JobCorps (and other similar programs) that give you a job (and a place to live, with parental permission or emancipation) and help you get your diploma. I would suggest a program like this over traditional schooling, as it actually gives you life experience.
Then there is always the GED, which some states allow as early as 16 years old, sadly mine is 17 and within sixty days of 18. I left school and took the GED, scoring in the ninety percentile. It took two days to get it done. First day was a pretest where they said due to my score they would pay for it, and the second day was the actual test.
I have five certifications gotten for practically free at the community college; All involving computers. I make what equates to twenty dollars an hour. I'm a system builder, technician, and recovery specialist. I've never had issues about having a GED versus a highschool diploma.
If you really dislike the public school system, talk to your family and friends about other alternatives in your state. Most states provide alternatives. If you don't feel these are viable options for you, then you better get your shit together and pass, because you don't want to fail high school and have to end up taking the GED (or adult courses) anyways. Waste of time. Just do it right, or find another way to achieve the same goal.
As I tell all munchkins... Join the military as soon as you are eighteen. It is only three years of your life unless you re-enlist, and it instills a good work ethic.
Edit: Might be different outside California..Or the USA.... If so, ignore this post.
