I had no idea that Rivendare was a death knight, or any of the Four Horsemen for that matter! I thought they were merely special undead. Or, undead with privileges.
Well Rivendare definatly is a death knight and I am pretty sure the horsemen are as well, though the exception could be the guy in white who wields the light.

Oh yeah;

Quote:Commander Eligor Dawnbringer: "The most powerful death knights within Naxxramas are the four horsemen. They represent the pinnacle of Kel'Thuzad's guard. The first, Thane Korth'azz, holds the power of flame. The next, Lady Blaumeux, calls forth the power of shadows, drawing the souls of the living into the voracious embrace. Sir Zeliek, a paladin in life, so strong in his faith, that even in undeath, the power of the light still heeds his call, smiting his foes in battle. The final death knight, Lord Mograine, was the finest warrior that the death knights had ever seen. However, after the events of Azeroth, he vanished without a trace. Kel'Thuzad has appointed Baron Rivendare in his place."
All four horsemen are deathknights.

So long as they can reasonably think, I don't see too much difference between playing a ghoul and playing a bound demon.

The "Road to Damnation" story at the WoW-Site implies that ghouls can think and speak a bit, and are mostly councious, but can't disobey the will / direct orders of whoever raised it. (or something in that direction). This makes some kind of sense, as the same seems to apply to some of the other Ghouls in the game / WC3. Just thought I'd dig up some of the implications you speak of :)

To me, what this means is that a ghoul can do what it wants as long as it doesn't disobey it's master. This isn't to say that a DK couldn't unsummon them, or, lets say, outright demolish them on a whim.

Anyone playing a ghoul MUST remember that it isn't something that would be gratifying. You may not like your master... but you'd be bound to him.

A ghoul is capable of free thought, and free speech... but they'd have to really watch what they do. It'd mean their unlife if they didn't.
Wouldn't mind, as long as the necromancer is a "responsible" player, or at least a clever rascal who does more with his ghoul than just throwing it at people at random, it would be really fun to have a role like that. Even if only part-time.
