Catherine, or Dahlia, if you will. :)

First and foremost: Tell us about yourself, as a player:
Hey there everyone. I have something of a hard time describing myself, moreso than a fictional character, so please forgive me if I'm lacking! I really am making an effort. That being said, I'd like to introduce myself as a veteran gamer, WoW player, and roleplayer.. or so I'd like to think! I've been roleplaying for ten years, as a child I always had an expansive imagination and I loved to write. When I was ten I began to get into text-based online roleplaying covering a flexible variety of subjects-- fantasy, horror, sci-fi, anything. But the lore, characters, and story of Warcraft has possessed all of my attention and I want nothing more than to be able to truly enjoy immersive roleplay in a drama and griefer-free environment.

And I adore the Horde. *Hugs for all*

I consider myself to be extremely easy to get along with. I'll admit I'm very shy at first, but I'm actually really silly, easy to laugh and I love to socialize once I feel comfortable.

What country do you come from? What is your primary language?:

I'm born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City, here in the U.S.A. .. and I'm proud of it! I only fluently speak English, though. And no, I don't sound like Fran Drescher. Well... maybe a little because of the accent. But not so nasal. You get the point! Moving on...!! *Whisks you away*

How did you get into Warcraft?:
I never really cared for Warcraft so much, because I really never cared for RTS or MMOs... how silly of me. I started playing Everquest II until someone pointed me in the direction of WoW a couple of months after release, which I got.. and promptly became addicted to. Naturally I went back and played Warcraft III, read the novels, comics, and enjoyed the lore in general. And now... here I am.

What made you seek our server over others?:
I feel like what I've dealt with on retail RP has really drained a lot of the creativity out of me. I want to return to when I first started and was flooded with ideas instead of being completely disheartened and not wanting to RP anymore because Arthas' daughter's sister shows up in Goldshire with demon wings and begins throwing unavoidable shadow spells at me (It's happened.) Some searching at last yielded this server, and I can't express how happy I am about finding it. Going through the forums shows a mature, capable, and fun roleplaying environment that I would love to and be proud to be a part of.

What kinds of roleplay do you enjoy?:
Relaxing tavern roleplay tends to take its toll on me.. there's only so much you can talk about after a while! I do have much more fun in a more adventurous situation, small crowds and pairs once I've adjusted. Relic hunting, exploring, Scourge/Demon hunting... you name it. But really, I enjoy anything.

What is your favorite race/class? Why?:
I'm sure plenty of people have said it already but I really love all of the races and classes. If I had to really choose, though, I love orcs and humans. Their struggles, clashing misunderstandings, unique personalities and deep-rooted hatred for eachother is something that really appeals to me. As for classes, ehh.. mage maybe. I like their variety of spells and flexibility. Pvping on one (did I mention I -LOVE- pvp?) is like playing with fire a lot of the time. Either you dispatch your target quickly, or they dispatch you quickly. That is, unless they're a geared frost mage... *Rogue grumble*

What are your expectations of this server?:

I think I've conveyed my expectations pretty accurately thus far. Maturity, no griefing or god moding, acceptance, support, friendly criticism (instead of elitists tearing you apart) and most of all, some damn good roleplay where you feel welcome to jump in.

Out of all of our rules and regulations listed on our server, which appeals to you the most?:
Humility for sure! It's a nice way to weed out the Mary Sues, isn't it? It also gets me crazy when I'm roleplaying with someone and someone shows up and instantly throws themselves in the limelight, be it with a tantrum, "Woe is me!" story or anything else. Quirky characters who stand off to the side are always my favorites.

Quote:Lastly, tell us a story! It can be short, it can be long; but most importantly, we want to see your work in action. Go!:
The evening sun made its final descent, sinking into the horizon beyond Stormwind City. With half an ear she listened to the ambience of a city transitioning to dusk. Merchants, citizens, and travelers alike were gathering their bearings, closing shops and transporting their goods and profits by cart on their way to homes and inns. The robed figure sat beside a dying candle, her eyes straining to make out the words on the stained and tattered pages of the book she held in hand, a book highlighting the occult: the undead, ghosts, spirits, spectors-- "Catherine!"

Catherine Duskmantle sat upright with a jolt, frantically taking in her surroundings. "Ah! Oh no!" With her concentration so deep in the tome set before her she had almost figured the Matron's call to be that of a spirit... with her nose in her book she had hardly noticed the sudden clamor outside. She hurried to her feet, taking the candle by its holder and rushing to the open door of the orphanage. Outside, the Cathedral cast a soothing light across the district, one that made her feel instantly at peace.

She hoped to find her brother Fredrick in tow of a group of soldiers, just as he had said farewell to her months ago. Instead, her smile came to fade at the sight before her. She cast her gaze upon a large group of children, flanked by soldiers and civilians alike, some of them were bandaged, burnt, maladies she had never before witnessed on someone so young. Present Matrons came rushing out of the orphanage to tend to the eerily silent children. Suddenly, the light that had seemed to warm suddenly felt so cold and hard. She rushed to meet the head of the group, a dismounted Paladin. "What's happened to these children?!"

"The war, Miss Duskmantle... So many innocent lives..." His face contorted with emotion, and she couldn't help but rest a hand upon his pauldron as she gently passed him. Considering what a veteran paladin must have witnessed to be overcome with emotion like that... She knelt down before one of the children, brushing his long, dirty hair away from his face. The paladin continued, "We've been traveling for some time with these children... they come from towns and cities ravaged by the monstrous orcs, as I'm sure you've heard..." Catherine nodded, shifting her turquoise eyes to the veteran Paladin. "Of course... My brother was dispatched and I worry terribly for him..."

Silence.

Memories spotted through her mind quickly as she came to realize what this silence meant..

...A cocky tone of voice resonated from the group of soldiers, one of them stepping forward and removing his helm, "Catherine Duskmantle." She eyed the knight discerningly, her peace of mind rocked by the sound of his creaking plate armor and boisterous voice, "I had a feeling that you would have your head buried in a book somewhere in there," he began with a grin that would have been charming if not for his demeanor that shook her to her very core with agitation. However, she kept a smile, "I'd been calling for you thrice just then and even with all of the noise my comrades were making right outside of the door you remained in place--"

"What do you need, Fredrick?" Catherine interjected with pursed lips. With a wave of his hand, Fredrick laughed heartily, "I thought that you would be a bit happier to hear from your younger brother before I set off..." He feigned a disappointed smile as the mirth in Catherine's turquoise belied her otherwise neutral expression. "Fredrick... I had hoped that you wouldn't be dispatched on any campaigns, Lillian is due soon."

The younger knight scoffed, raking his gauntleted hands through his hair. "I think I'm more than aware of my child's birth date... Catherine, I've hardly any time to speak, I'm expected. I'll be gone by morning." The corner of his mouth lifted in a clearly forced smile, and her heard twisted with worry. Quickly, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Fredrick, her brow furrowing and a tear threatening to reveal itself. "Don't worry," he began, "I'll be back soon, for Lillian, the child and for you as well." A soft sigh escaped Catherine's lips, "I hope so, Fredrick, if you... died..."

Suddenly looking uncomfortable, Fredrick embraced his sister before stepping back and climbing upon his mount, the other soldiers having already mounted themselves waiting in solemn silence. "I'll be back in time, Catherine. Make sure to wait for me! I'm sure you're still training your swordarm, aren't you? Keep at that. And... while you're at it, have some of that sweet potato pie prepared for me as well...?" At last, an honest smirk, "Please?"

Catherine couldn't help but chuckle, slowly turning on her heel and making her way back into the orphanage. "You can count on it. Farewell, Fredrick... Light be with you, always." She regarded the other men present with a firm nod. "To all of you as well."

He murmured behind her, "With you as well.. Come, then! To the gates!" She paused to listen to the steeds trot off. A cool breeze caressed her cheek as though willing her return, and at last she closed the heavy door behind her...

Her entire body felt as though it had been wrenched with dread. Dizzy with fear, her jaw clenched as she prepared for the expected news. The paladin began slowly, removing his helm as he spoke on it, "I am here as well to inform you that Fredrick Duskmantle passed in battle... If it puts you at ease, he died with honor..." It did anything but put her at ease. Imagining his ravaged body burning on the pyres of mutilated, crushed and slain corpses along with the sight of so many orphaned children before her twisted her heart with sorrow, the ache was so unbearable yet so numbing that she could hardly shed a tear. He continued as the children were escorted into the building, some to the nearby Cathedral. "His wife has already been informed as well. They are arranging a memorial for the men--"

At last she spoke, her voice deadened and empty, so incredibly overwhelmed that she hadn't the time to respond properly, "Thank you... for informing me. And for escorting the children all the way here. We can't promise them the lives that they once had but we will make an effort to find them new families and care for them as they deserve." She bowed, and he nodded as he turned to the waiting soldiers, "M'lady."

--A week passes.

"Pah! Do you honestly think that we have the time and resources to train a new soldier like you?" Catherine's hand balled into a white-knuckled fist, "Reinforcements are what you need, are they not? I see trainees and novices all of the time, even now!"

The warrior laughed, a mocking guffaw despite the serious circumstances that sent her mind swimming with hidden rage. "Most of the capable soldiers are not women, let alone orphanage matrons!"

"I swear on my heart that I have experience! Perhaps not in combat but I know how to defend myself, and more importantly, others... I'm not going to stand idly and allow the orcs, or anyone who slaughters our people and who gets in the way of the efforts of--"

"I won't hear it!" The brawn footman began to stride off with purpose, but Catherine gave chase, or tried to. Her armor was heavy. "I used to train with my father and brother when I was younger, it was only when I became a Matron six years past that I laid down my sword. I can promise to you that I'm capable enough..." The man paused, and her voice dropped to a near whisper, "...Please..." Her heart twisted with a fresh, indescribable pain at the thought of Fredrick, the orphans...

"Assemble at Northshire Abbey tonight. The trainees will be there and they will take you into their ranks... Light knows how many soldiers we will need to replace those that have fallen and will fall." His expression grew grim for a moment, "Don't disappoint, Lass. I'll have high expectations of a novice like you, then." Catherine resisted a sneer. All of that, and he still insisted on being spiteful and penalizing her because of her gender... Instead, she nodded as he took his leave. "I can promise you that I won't."

With her head held high and belevolence singing in her heart, Catherine took her tarnished plate helm beneath one arm and went to prepare for the training to come...

((A little long, I know. Sorry! ))

Is there anything else you would like to add, ask, or otherwise clarify?:
No, I think reading over the forums has given me an accurate idea of what's up. Thanks for reading!

Why? We love long long time!

And with that, welcome to the server! I'm sure you'll fit right in!
In hindsight, I realized I could have written something so much stronger outside the WoW universe.. but oh well. Thank you!
