Gul'rag Darkscar [Orc Warlock]
#1
Player: PhilGobatto

Character Full Name: Gul'rag Darkscar

Character In-Game Name: Gulrag

Nickname(s): Darkscar, Darkie, Peon, Musclemountain.

Association(s): Himself, The Duskriders. Formerly, the Shadow Council and the Stormreaver Clan.

Race: Orc.

Class: Warlock.

Skills and Abilities: Gul'rag does not excel in any particular field of warlockery, but insteads attempts to know a bit of everything. He is regular in every school of fel magic and is even able to fight with a sword.

Age: 35.

Sex: Male.

Hair: Bald with a brown beard.

Eyes: Red.

Scale: Standard.

Usual Garments/Armor: Mostly uses a set of dark clothes.

Other: He possesses a large dark scar crossing his chest diagonally.

Alignment: Neutral Evil.

Personality: First of all, Gul'rag is focused on his own benefit and survival. He may cooperate with others and act friendly with them, but only if it shows profitable for him. If someone's company proves to be disadvantageous for him, he will not mind abandoning them or even changing sides if he can benefit from such change.

Second, Gul'rag is an opportunist. He prefers to strike when his victims show weakness. He will wait patiently until he has the chance to do something.

Third, Gul'rag is used to living alone. He attempts to be self-sufficient. This does not mean he will not accept help or company, but he does not like to completely rely on it. This is why he trains on a bit of everything. He wants to be prepared for whatever comes. He also does not like to feel tied to one place. He is a wanderer. He requires some mobility. Thus, when forced to stay in one place for too long, he will attempt to take walks around the region to feel free for at least a brief moment.

History: Born during the Rise of the Horde, Gul'rag had a tough life since the beginning. It looked to him that since the very moment he left the womb of his mother, he was thrown into the fray, used to fuel the giant war machine that the Horde was, along with many other young orcs of his time.

He was magically aged with the aid of fel in order to be ready for combat as soon as possible, and trained in warlockery during the First War. Gul'rag learned fast. Soon, he was a proud member of the Stormreaver clan and Initiate of the Shadow Council. The day of his first battle came, and he greeted it warmly.

A group of human spies had been spotted nearby, and thus he was sent with a group to put an end to them. Unfortunately for Gul'rag, the humans had a conjurer in their ranks. In the middle of the fight, a spell struck Gul'rag's chest, marking him for life and earning him his name. That did not stop him. He finished the conjurer's life. Their mission was completed.

At the end of the First War, though, something happened. Orgrim Doomhammer rose to the position of Warchief, and ordered the death of most of the Shadow Council. Warlockery was never the same. That Warchief did not trust Gul'dan and his kind. But he kept fighting for the Horde, hoping that this would change one day.

The Second War came. Gul'rag kept serving as a loyal member of the Stormreaver clan. He did what he was told to do. Until the great day came. Gul'dan learned of a place that would hold immense powers. It was told that the remains of Sargeras himself were hidden inside the Tomb. Gul'rag followed the rest of the Stormreaver clan and the Twillight's Hammer clan as they journeyed toward the Broken Isles. But Orgrim soon found out about Gul'dan's treachery. The Blackrock clan was sent to slaughter the deserters.

Happily for Gul'rag, he managed to escape. He hid in one of the Blackrock's ships, and as they reapproached the continent, he jumped off the ship and swam away. After that, he would wander the lands alone, hunting and robbing to survive.

When the orcs started to be hunted and put in internment camps, Gul'rag hid away in the south side of the continent. There, he spent many years. After the orcs were finally freed, they did not embrace warlockery as they did anymore. They had returned to their shamanistic traditions. Gul'rag could not return to the orcish society. He would be treated as filth by the others. Thus, he kept on with his criminal life.

Recently, Gul'rag came across a group of bandits that hide in Duskwood. He joined them, seeking to use them to enrich himself. As long as they serve his objectives, he will stay with them. And for now, they're being helpful enough.

Howdy, there! This is an interesting profile - warlocks are cool, especially Old Horde ones. However, there's a few discrepancies. I'll go through them individually!

Quote:Mostly uses a set of light chainmail armour, with some leather acessories.

Players aren't allowed to ICly wear equipment outside their OOC class specialisations, I'm afraid.

Quote:Happily for Gul'rag, a few managed to escape. He hid in the ship of the ogre mage, Cho'gall. They sailed to a distant land to the west. Gul'rag did not follow the rest of Cho'gall's cult into Ahn'Qiraj, though: he started to wander Kalimdor alone, hunting and robbing from the native peoples to survive.

I'm not sure about this. After downloading the comic (where this lore seems to have come from) and briefly checking over the issues with Cho'gall, I can't actually find anything that indicates Cho'gall immediately fled to Kalimdor after his defeat at the Broken Isles, despite the fact that wowwiki seems to make it sound that way. I think it's more likely (since Cho'gall has been pretty much ignored until the past two expansions) that Cho'gall ran off to somewhere indeterminate, then ended up in Ahn'qiraj later - probably during the years leading up to WoW.

I may have missed something explicit about it in the comics, but either way I think that while it's an interesting idea, I don't think it's really possible in the lore to have arrived on Kalimdor before the Horde.

Quote:Soon, he was a proud member of the Stormreaver clan and Initiate of the First Circle of the Shadow Council.

I understand the idea behind this, but the Shadow Council's rankings are... Weird at best, utterly insane at worst. Gul'dan himself was both in the first and seventh circles, with Cho'gall (one of the highest ranking members) only in the fifth. I suggest removing the "First Circle" part entirely to avoid confusion.

As a lil' personal note, Darkscar is a cool name.

Move him into the sun—
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields half-sown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.

Think how it wakes the seeds,—
Woke, once, the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear-achieved, are sides,
Full-nerved—still warm—too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
—O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth’s sleep at all?

Alright, I made some changes! Removed any mentions to chainmail armour, rewrote his history to have him escape in a Blackrock ship as a clandestine and, after that, fleeing to south EK, and removed the "First Circle" part.

EDIT: And thanks! I really like the name too.

With those changes made, I'm going to go ahead and slap some approval on this profile. The lore checks out fine.
