Peons are not Slaves!

Or visibly, since some of the Old Horde foremen do cling to the bloodlust and tend to abuse their workers verbally or physically if they know they can get away with it.

Edit: But that's against Thrall's decree, so it's a crime to do so and he could have reported it and not needed to flee.

Like I said in my post earlier in this thread... yes, there are abusive Taskmasters and Grunts, it's usually the older ones, but it's -rare-, and usually an isolated incident. Meaning, if every Grunt has a jerk for a taskmaster, Thralls gonna be crackin' some heads around.

(In other words, don't overuse it.)

Ah, good. I knew there had to be a few of them. Korgata's reason for not returning home stands. And it was one foreman who only picked on the really weak peons.

EDIT: If that would be acceptable, that is.
Crunchym8: Work tomorrow at a greenhouse, followed by a D&D session. Aw fel yeaahhh I can't be more hardcore.
Crunchym8: WE'RE PLANTING THE MUMS AND THE DAYLILLIES TOMORROW AND IF WE HAVE TIME SNAPDRAGONS

Aren't all forms of slavery outlawed in Orgrimmar? I can't remember if I read anything specifically from lore about this, whether or not Thrall mandated such an act officially or if it's just another one of my speculations.

Yeah, something like that. It's the reasoning being the darkspears giving up owning slaves.

Peons are closer to serfs or tenant workers enslaved by debt, I think. They make wages but are trapped in their positions unless they do something drastically honorable/heroic or learn a useful money-making trade and buy their way up in society. Think black sharecroppers during Reconstruction. They weren't slaves anymore, but they're still dirt-poor and planters still want them to work.

The point is, however, that if a peon wants to leave, nothing actually stops him. They don't have to escape, they're not being forced to work. They simply do so because it's the only way they have to live...they don't have the skills or learning to do anything else or survive on their own.

Some of the stories I've seen about peons "escaping" are highly unrealistic.

And yes, slavery is outlawed in the Horde.

If I'm not mistaken, Goblins are the only race that still allows slavetrade... Well, and there are the rare Orcs wich still get enslaved by other Orcs (according to wowwiki).

Peons aren't slaved, nor are they indentured servants, but in some ways they are much like slaves. Peons have no motivation to be better than simple workers, and accept their position. Though nobody owns them, I'd imagine that most peons are very obedient and subservient.
