This idea came to me today, don't know why I didn't think of it before.
We have the new portal NPC in WSG now, thankfully. Why not add more options, to remove other portals?
These portals are currently in WSG:
Shatterspear Village
Shattrath City
The Horde Cities
The Alliance Cities
Instead, why not just add those all into the single NPC and remove the separate portals.
Then go to each of those locations and drop a portal NPC there.
It's something of a hassle when you are trying to get somewhere, and have to perform the portal hop to reach it.
Such as going from Darnassus to Shattrath, to reach the WSG portal.
This way, you'd remove all those portals, and it'd clean things up a bit.

That would basically create unnecessary busy-work for the GMs :| . The portal system we have now is convenient enough in my opinion. >.>

You could just as easily log off and use the component teleporter to get to where you want, yes?
Making another NPC and doing whatever would just kind of be unnecessary work for Kretol, in my opinion. Like Terant said.

Logging off Warcraft, onto the forum, getting to the components page, and then logging back in and choosing the character takes roughly the same time as all the portal hopping, if not slightly longer.
You can't really call this busywork, because it's a one time thing. It would take the time to sort out, yes, but after that it isn't like it would have to be done over and over again.

Don't forget, the component's can be used from anywhere, not just the cities or Warsong, I think that's a big advantage it has over npc's.

I'm aware of that, and wasn't suggesting this to entirely replace the component feature.
It's just that with a single portal NPC replacing all of these portals, traveling would be much faster than it currently is.

This just doesn't seem really needed as much as wanted. It'll only shave off a few seconds of time using the components, and it's just unnecessary work for Kretol.

Why would you want to remove the Shatterspear Portal? Most of us use it for a quicker teleport to WSG.
