Question on Gruntyness
#1
I'm going to hazard a guess and say you can't get Gruntified without actually playing on the server, yes?

If that's not the case (which I doubt) then could someone please tell me how? It's just I really don't fancy the idea of having to ICly explain how a character miraculously jumped a bazillion power levels. On top of that the character I've already thougt up assumes a high level start.

I mean, I suppose I could just create a simple character in the mean time, but I don't know if I could actually do a good job of playing an every day Joe. I mean, it's a challenge enough for me to remember I'm not an Epic Campaigne Mastermind, so I just don't know if I have it in me to play the local barber, so to speak.

Anyways, any help and/or thoughts/suggestions on this would be much appreciated.

Levels do not actually matter in terms of Role Play.

You have to have been active on the server to qualify for gruntship.

I explained Gruntship to another person today in another post, so I'm going to be lazy and just quote it here!

Piroska Wrote:A Grunt is the next level up from Peon, which is the rank that you typically hold after having your introduction accepted and made visible by the staff. As a Peon, your characters are incapable from leveling past 50. If you do so (in other words, if you continue leveling past 50 in a single sitting), you may log in to find your character locked. This is done to encourage players to become Grunts, who have no such restrictions. They are able to level select characters to 80 (specifically, ones with accepted profiles) and be rewarded for their efforts.

People can apply for their Gruntship as soon as one month after their initial acceptance. There are, however, a number of requirements that must be fulfilled:
Once all of these requirements are met, you will be -- for lack of a better word -- reviewed. People will need to vouch for you, so make sure that they know who you are! Get involved with the community, roleplay with others, and have fun! After a period of time (anywhere from a day to even a week) you should hopefully be promoted to a Grunt and can then page a GM to have your characters with accepted profiles have the level cap removed. Huzzah!

Keep in mind, however, that you do not have to level your character nor do you have to be a Grunt. I've seen a handful people on this server who appear to have been active for over a year and still are Peons (by choice, I'm assuming). However, it's very strongly encouraged and the benefits do definitely outweigh the effort required to do so -- among them 2,000 gold and ten tokens that allow you to request almost any item available in the game! You also get the satisfaction of knowing that your character got the thumbs up from the community, which is further underlined when the character is added to the wiki with all of the other accepted characters.
Now, as Jeff mentioned, levels are not indicative of ability on this server. You can be a level 1 paladin and claim to be an experienced fighter who perhaps fought as a member of the Knights of the Silver Hand during the Second War. This should indicate to others some martial prowess and skill, despite being a low leveled character. This question was recently asked in Levels and Roleplay?, so you may find better and more complete answers there!

Hope that this helps!

I am aware of the whole Level/Roleplay thing, and I had considered that, but I was rather more concerned about it for gear. I mean, have the level restrictions been removed? Like, it would be hard for a paladin to claim himself a seasoned champion of the Light when he's wearing a set of tattered mail. (Not that I'll likely play a Paladiin any time soon.)

A handful of armor sets have had their level restrictions either lowered or removed entirely. The Dungeon 1 set comes to mind, each piece of which is purchasable for a single gold and available to all as soon as you roll your character. A lot of people pick them up, whether to have something nice and matching while roleplaying or because the stats help while leveling in their free time.

I'd like to point to an article Qaza made on the wiki to help people. It admonishes people to be aware of warning signs that may indicate that the player isn't going to work out (though I should reiterate, possessing one of these signs doesn't mean that your character is bad. It's just a guideline. At the very top of Character Creation Warning Signs we see:

Quote:You already know that you will need much more powerful gear.
To reiterate, it doesn't mean that your character is bad. However, it does remind us that the gear that our character uses shouldn't dictate who or what they are. It's how we play them that matters!

And having tattered mail might be just fine! You could easily come up for reasons why the armor is missing. It would be an awesome way to flesh out a character! Though, if it helps, a lot of classes have the ability to learn their new armor classes at lower levels; for example, rather than waiting to hit level 40 to wear plate, my warrior learned it at, oh, 20. I believe!

Dungeon Set 1, is that the one the Blood Elf chick wears in the Eastern Kingdoms loading screen? Cos thats actually what I was wanting for him to wear. For me it doesn't really have much to do with the power, rather that the character Imma make firmly believes in wearing red as a mark of respect to his fallen kin.

Lucky for you, I always have WoWWiki open in a tab on my browser! You can see a picture of the Dungeon 1 set here. There's no red set that I see (other than the mage's Magister's set and the paladin's Lightforge), but I'm certain that you can find something that should suffice. If not, you can always pick up other things.

Also, in Warsong Gulch you can find vendors that sell a lot of common roleplaying articles (clothing included) for silvers a piece. You might be able to piece together an outfit that way that would appeal to your aesthetic requirements for your blood elf. A couple of red shirts come to mind that tend to be rather popular.
