Voodoo in practice
#1
Ok, so. Marwaz is an experienced voodoo practicioner, of course short of Witch Doctor status. My question is, besides head shrinking and being generally creepy, what does one DO with voodoo? How do you use it combat? Should I just use the in-game priest powers I have and say it comes from the Loa? Or do I just toss potions at people? Also, are blow darts allowable since I've never seen such an item in-game though I think it quite fitting for a troll.

You could take a handful of examples from the Witch Doctor article. It explains the powers that the prestige class has. While you wouldn't have the exact abilities described, you could probably use it for guidance. The Shadow Hunter and the Hexer are also known for using voodoo powers.

Also, at the very least there is a Dart Gun in the game itself, which is used in an Alliance daily. There's also To'kini's Blowgun, used in a quest in Zul'Drak. The latter quest is definitely related to trolls.

Only shadow hunters and loa priests can channel a loa directly. The rest of us need to be a bit more inventive. Witch doctors juju center alot around the brews they make and can range from buffs, to poisons to even throwing potions with different effects. Coating your weapons with magical or poisonous muds is also a way of theirs. The keyword for witch doctors and juju practitioners in general is preperation and of course also some melee combat.

A hexxer or somebody dealing in hexxing in general can try to make their ritual dance into a martial art aswell. But this still require some time to invoke the spirits, or an idol with proper reagents. Key again comes down to preparations.

The thing is that voodoo is not meant to be on a frontline combat system. It is support at most. All prestige classes that do voodoo for example are part of the clergy so to speak and carry a big cultural importance.
