I am annoyed.

And why? Because of people joining and leaving guilds without thinking of the concequences. I mean, THINK before joining a guild! I have seen WAY TOO MUCH of people just making characters to join a guild and leaving the guild after a few days when "There wasn't immediate action available". This is quite annoying when leading a guild, I mean, you should AT LEAST make it in-character, or let the leader know about it?

Also, when you join a guild, you make a contract. A contract that you are indeed IN the guild.

CHECK the forums of the guild, so you won't miss events.

INFORM the leader if you're leaving or making drastic changes to your presence.

READ the Message of the Day. And the rules. And the information. I lead a guild once, and I had a problem of the sort that no one ever heard anything I said unless I whispered it to them personally, and if you're leading a huge guild, this tends to be a problem.

This is my advice if you want to make the job of the guild leader just a tad bit easier. If you're not going to stay, don't join.

Signed..

Also, if you are going to lead a guild, don't drop out half-way, RP your way out of it. People never think of consequences and relationships with other characters these days. You got my full vote Azheron, and this should have been posted -way- earlier.

I second...wait Third this motion! Yeah that's it.

*shudders while reading the post* This kind of reminds me of Moon Guards Goldshire. People just joining leaving, and then just messing up everyones RP because of it.

But I think I better tittle for this particular post might have been something along the lines of.
"Say no to retail!" or perhaps "We are not on retail people"

Oh oh!

"Remember you are not who you think you are"

I've not considered joining a guild yet (no IC reason to as of late) but I fully agree with you, Azheron. A useful post, too! It was a good way to make me rethink the values/responsibilities a leader takes in making/running a guild.

Good luck to you!

Well, to be fair, a lot of guilds get created and are deemed flavors of the month. They're popular at that point in time, but this may not necessarily be the case in the near future; in the five or so months I've been on the server, I've seen a long list of popular ideas pop up and then fade to anonymity: thieves guilds (twice), gangs, mercenary groups, political groups, arcane schools, military organizations, ships crews (twice, I believe), and so on.

It's difficult to maintain any consistency in guild membership, mostly because we have so many options available to us. When a lot of people are pursuing one particular thing, others want to join in because it's where roleplay is most active. As interest wanes or less is done within the guild, people begin looking for the next craze so that they can find roleplay.

So, in order for a guild to be consistently successful, it has to cater to its members by having a large playerbase and frequent events to ensure that members' interests are always piqued. Unfortunately, it's hard to do that.

I so wish people would listen to this. Come on people, -read- the guild message of the day and -listen- to what it says! People can be so clueless of what's going on in guilds...

Well thank you for mentioning me. : D

My guild fell because people just stopped playing. Without any warning. Nobody knew anything because they didn't bother to read the forums or the message of the day.
