Concerns about aging
#16
I think that the official charts defining when the different races come of adulthood and other ages is a quick bit of sloppy work on Blizzard's part. I mean, while they do a lot to attend to the roleplaying community, for the average guy working there, it wouldn't be hard to go, "Humans live 100 years, maturity at 18, draenei live thousands, so let's add a few zeroes and call it good."

In fact, I find that the age thing of WoW is a bit unrefined.

Probably need to do one of those "let's just mod this a bit." Things.

I quote this, because we really should mod it so, that it makes more sense. After all, we are on a private server here and there are roleplay leaders...

Except, there's no reason. We have evidence from lore sources that prove that they age more or less as humans do, but aren't considered adults into later in life. Again, I reference Shandris Feathermoon who was sixteen during the War of the Ancients and still managed to accomplish quite a bit.

So the question that arises from this, at what age would say a night elf be capable of fighting? It seems from the story of Shandris we can consider elves atleast to be physically capable of taking care of themselves to a point.

Besides keep in mind maturity also has its cultural dimensions. Physically an elf can be mature at a much earlier age, but it might take long for one to socialize and gather the knowledge and experience to be treated as an equal in the elf society. Emotionally maturity entails the ability to behave in ways that are socially acceptable and perhaps this is the process that takes longer among elves.

In any case I think the chief issue is: at what age can we have our long-lived races start their training and how long would such training last? Wouldn't an elf warrior trained for a hundred years be more competent than a human trained just ten?
