Draconin2000`s Introduction
#1
First and foremost: Tell us about yourself, as a player.:
Heylo!

My name is Shawn, I'm a 30 y/o, 6th 2in, Canadian man, and I'm an easygoing and compassionate individual and always try to see things from any point of view.

More than anything, I guess I would call myself a gamer. I love all kinds of games, from classic board/card games to collectible card games to miniature games to RPG's to PC and console games. I even enjoy some sports.

I have very eclectic tastes, enjoying many types of music, movies, as well as activities, and I love anything with a good story (fictional & not). I enjoy thoughtful debate, time with friends, being silly, or just doing nothing, all equally. I'm open to new ideas, and to old-fashioned views. I think life is meant to be experienced, so the experience in it's fullest is the ideal, whatever those experiences may be. Religiously, I would have to say I am an Eclectic Dragon Techno-pagan.

I've been diagnosed with the following medical conditions & disabilities:

* Asperger syndrome
* Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder
* Obsessive–compulsive disorder
* Tourette syndrome
* Auditory processing disorder
* Severe Tactile Sensitivity
* Rheumatoid arthritis
* Hypoglycemia
* Eye tracking Difficulty
* Abnormally fast metabolism

If you think that being disabled makes me "slow", think again. I have scored from 128-138 on web-based IQ tests, and had a wide range of topics to learn from; so don't underestimate me, I'm not an idiot.

Do be aware that this means I likely may not understand if you give me "hints". please be direct when chatting with me. Thank you.

What country do you come from? What is your primary language?
I live in western Canada, and am only fluent in English.

How did you get into Warcraft?:
Well, to be honest, it began with the card game Yu-Gi-Oh. I am a certified tournament judge & tournament organiser. When Upper Deck Ent. Came out with the WoW TCG, I thought it might be a good idea to get my certification in that game as well. But before I did that, I thought it would be smart of me to become acquainted with the MMO as well. To best acquaint myself, I felt the official lore and timeline was the best way to go. And thus I became instantly hooked, and my life was forever changed.

What made you seek our server over others? (or How did you find us?):
I have played on a couple other WoW free servers, but have not found any that have much in the way of decent roleplaying. I am actually slowly working on my own World of Warcraft novel, and would like to use some kind of free-form roleplay to assist me in writing it.

What kinds of roleplay do you enjoy?:
To be honest, I don't have a specific style of roleplay, other than casual with partial OOC.I am hoping to find some players interested in working on a kind of open-ended free-form roleplay, to help me in writing my novel. I have the very beginning and ultimate goal of my main character chosen, and would like to use in-game roleplay to determine more of what happens in my novel.

What is your favorite race/class? Why?:
My favourite race/class would be undead/priest, because I seam to have a knack as a healer, and this is the race/class of my novels main character. I also really like the Tauren as a race, as I love their culture.

What are your expectations of this server?:
Nothing in the way of expectations, really. I do have high hopes, though.

Out of all of our rules and regulations listed on our server, which appeals to you the most?:
I like the rule about "Knowing when to quit", as I feel similarly.

Lastly, tell us a story! It can be short, it can be long; but most importantly, we want to see your work in action. Go!:
0] Prologue

First, came the screaming. It was a terrible sound, as if death had looked in the mirror for the first time.
It took a few moments for Alahn to realise it was he who was making the retched sound. As soon as he did, he shut his mouth, making an unusual 'clack' sound. It gave him a shiver, which was worsened by the cold blackness around him.
As he looked around him, all he could see was the darkness.
*where am I*, he thought. *this place is cold, but not enough to make me shiver*.
After a few minutes, his eyes began to adjust to the darkness. A few minutes more, and what he was able to see disturbed him more than the scream had.
He was in a crypt, lying on one of the corpse alcoves. The knowledge made him jump to his feet in dread.
"Wh . . . Where am I?"
His voice cracked & wheezed as he spoke, and the words seemed more difficult to form than they should have.
*what has happened to my voice* he thought, as he clutched his thought in surprise. His fingers found an all too thin neck, and this worried him even more. Alahn could feel panic welling up within him now, but wrestled control from it. A voice from his past whispered in his memory,

"Beware of the darkness, my disciple. Fear and doubt are strongest there. Always remember that even in the blackest night, we can hold the light of a thousand noonday suns in our hearts and minds."

The words steadied him, and he calmed his mind. *If I am to escape this darkness, I must remember how I first entered it* He searched his memory. *Where was I before waking here?* He stood and thought for a long while, remembering the events that had come before...

1] Alahn's Death

The city of Stormwind was the center of the human lands, and a great trade center for the humans, night elves, dwarves, and gnomes of the Alliance. The family of Calrekos had been leading the city guards for the past 4 generations. Oralic Calrekos was the latest in the family to obtain the position. However, it would seem (to his frustration) his son's would not be sharing in that tradition.

"Father, I will not join the militia! I intend to enter the priesthood and become a healer." Alahn stood firm before his father, while Olaric glared at him from over the heavy oak desk. "Boy, this family has been warriors for longer than you can imagine! I will not have you embarrass this family with some notion of that touchy-feely fizzle-fazzle! I won't have it!" Alahn met his glare evenly. "Well, it's too late. I have already taken the trials and been accepted. They expect me and my belongings within the week."
Oralic's jaw practically made a *thud* as it dropped.
Then, before he could mutter a single obsanity, Alahn turned, saying, "I have much to prepare, father. I take my leave", and swiftly left the room.
Halfway down the hall, Alahn heard his father's furious bellows, but he did not even miss a step. When he entered the main hall, Jerard was there, a worried smirk on his lips. "If you have to give him any more news like that, he'll end up as your first patient."
Though a year and a half younger than Alahn, Jerard was a strong and muscularly gifted youth. They both shared a dislike for simple killing as a calling in life. While Alahn had chosen a vocation, however, Jerard had yet to settle on one. "And, now he'll be even more determined to have me in the militia… Wonderful."
Alahn smiled at his brother. They had grown up together, and still remained the best of friends. "You know Jerard… I still think you should join the Paladin Order. I might have gone that direction, had I been gifted with your strength and prowess." Jerard was less than thrilled by his natural skill with weapons and combat. "Al, you know I don't like killing any more than you do.” Alahn frowned at the accusation. “Jer, I told you they are defenders and healers, not killers. Have you at least spoken to the captain at the hall?" Jerard looked at his feet in sullen guilt. "…no…not yet…" Alahn chuckled slightly as he put his arm around his brother while they walked.
"You promised me you would at least do that before making any judgements. However, it will have to wait I am afraid. I need you to help me begin packing my things. I leave for the temple in three days." Jerared smiled to his brother, "The sooner you're gone, the sooner you're rid of his ratings, huh?" Alahn just smiled slyly at Jerard, and the two of them laughed their way down the hall.

~*~

Time passed relatively swiftly for Alahn, during his time at the temple. His days consisted mostly of classes and study groups, and an occasional visit from Jerard. Before long, six whole years had passed and Alahn became a full Priest, with the knowledge and skill to heal the sick or injured. It was time for him to receive an assignment.
Alahn strolled contently down the lane, listening to the commotion of Stormwind's marketplace. He had been coming here every day for a fortnight, hoping some stray rumour might lead to somewhere he could be of help in the world. *the fishmonger was gossiping of Orcs. Perhaps the outlying regions will require a new medic. No, the Paladin's will have that covered*
It was nearly noon, and Alahn was about to return to the temple for the mid-day meal, when something caught his ear.

" . . .was all dead, the whole bloody village."
"No!"
"That ain't the worst of it. Word is, about three days after, while they was still clean'en' out the bodies, some ah' them corpses just got up and walked off!"
"Light protect us!“
“Where you say this happn'd?"
"Yonder, across the sea and the Malestrom, in Lorderon."
"Well, I heard tell of . . ."

Alahn did not need to hear any more. Dead that stood and walked was of great concern. Perhaps this would be his chance! *The bishop will more than likely send aid for such grave events, and if I am chosen to go, I can truly be of aid and heal as never before.*
As he ran up the steps of the temple, Alahn slowed. Standing at the top of the steps, speaking to the vice-cardinal, stood the High Inquisitor himself, commander of the Paladins: Renault Mograine. When Morgrain saw Alahn approaching, he turned his attention to him.
"Alahn Calrekos? The Archbishop has summoned you. You will go to his chambers directly." Alahn quickly made the appropriate bow and replied, "As you declare, High Inquisitor.", swiftly walking into the temple.
As he walked through the temple, Alahn's mind raced. The number of times the Archbishop and the High Inquisitor had collaborated could be counted on a single hand with fingers to spare. The situation in Lorderon must have been dire indeed.
When he arrived at the Archbishop's chambers, he found he was not the only one summoned there.
He knew only two others; Jerimyah, a fellow student from Alahn's days in training and a gifted man with diseases; and Corahn, who had been his research instructor. With them were five others (some Alahn did not recognize), and all were waiting… nervously.
A girl (not much older than he was) sat against the wall looking frightened of whatever they waited on.
A tall, thin man stood 3 feet in front of the door, facing the wall from the middle of the corridor. He looked impatient, and slightly annoyed with the summons.
At last, the doors opened and they were called inside.

~*~

The voyage across the ocean was uneventful, and soon Alahn found himself at a research station in the village of Brill.
Things were far worse the people of Stormwind had been led to believe they were. Lorderon was dying, attacked by enemies on the battlefield and within the body.
Plague victims were in the tens of thousands, and the scores of undead that roamed the countryside were slaughtering even more. Worse yet, at each breakthrough in understanding the plague, as many as three more puzzles appeared.
One thing was certain; anyone who died while infected with the plague would rise as an undead monster within days…and it was contagious. Every member of the research team had become infected by the end of their first fortnight at the station, and all died soon after. Alahn was the last to succumb to his fate.

It was late in the evening, and he had spent most of the day tending the sick, though he himself was wracked by fever. He was on his way back to his tent, when it happened.
First came the shortness of breath, but the day of labouring could account for that. Then, in mid stride, his heart simply stopped. He collapsed instantly, and could hear people around him in a sudden commotion. *Is this the end of me?* he thought. *I was close to an answer, I'm sure of it. I hope my notes will be of help to the next to come...*

…and he was swallowed by the dark silence.

2] Wishing for Nightmares

Alahn now stood in the crypt, remembering his own death. It was insane, yet he could recall it so vividly. *But I cannot have really died, if I am still here thinking about it, could I?*
He shivered as a sudden realization struck him...
He had become one of the walking dead. His mind, however, was still his own. For that, he thanked the light.
*I suppose I should leave this place and see what awaits me outside.*
Looking about, he found a small bundle of supplies: a backpack, a wooden staff, and a hearthstone.
The hearthstone surprised him. These small, common, magic stones could be attuned by any trained innkeeper. Then later, they could be used by adventurers to teleport back to that inn. Clearly not something simply left laying anywhere. Someone was expecting him; or at least expecting one of the corpses in this tomb, as there were several laying about. Alahn did not wish to be present should someone else 'awaken', so gathering up the supplies, he left the tomb and went outside.
The sky was dark and covered in an un-natural shroud of clouds. The tall pines seamed to droop from the gloom that permeated the air.
What looked like a man stood a few feet from the entrance to the tomb. Upon hearing Alahn approach, he turned. Alahn stopped.
There was a large portion of flesh missing from the man's forearm, and part of his cheek had clearly rotted away.
"Ah, you're awake. If you would follow this path down the hill, you will find a chapel to the left of the road. All will be explained to you there."
Alahn eyed the undead fellow cautiously, and then, with little other options, began making his way down the path.
