RL Lessons from RP

JackofBlades Wrote:That'd just make me throw them in to fires. WoW rp...you people seem to be taking it way too seriously, I respect opinions but...what?!

Why would one play a character that's modeled after someone who they despise?

Simply to see what its like to be them. To see things from their point of view. To see things in a way that you might not otherwise see them.

Randian - Sin'dorei Priest, Representative of Greystone Charities
Riley Gillespie aka "Stars" - Unhinged forsaken vagabond with a flare for fire
Alonus - Fallen holy priest with a pet serpent named "Ricky"
Haugus Bach - Forsaken Warlock with an appetite for torture and revenge. Previously a humble shoe maker.

Take that how you will, if you know Astus well you might get it.

Not sure I understand completely, which I probably should, but I think I do. I'd say the same in regards to Aulten. He represents not only my fears, but what I view as the worst thing about society in general. Not sure if I'm making sense, but if you know Aulten, and I happen to be making sense, it'd... Well... Make sense.

I understand making characters that represent things you want to be, or fear, and all that, hell I've made them. But to try and see what it's like to be someone...via a wow RP character, is...very very strange indeed.

I suppose, apart from relaxation, one of the things that Roleplaying helps me with is acting. In real life I enjoy acting on stage and Roleplaying assists me with knowing how to dig into my characters and find their in-depth reactions to circumstances.

Remyl was a character that I created to be the antithesis of another char I made. The other char was modeled with parts of me as well as some movie chars I like into him, but the more I played Remyl, the more I realized that he was a part of me as well, blown well out of proportion, but still very much my own humor. The thing about RP is that it is so spontaneous and natural at times that you can't help but to interject a little to a lot of your own personality, backstory, or philosophy in them, and if not your own then someone you know intimately enough to project onto your char. So for example, if I had to take some of my characters and analyze how close to me they are, you get this:

Jonoth: The part of me that uses both conventional and unconventional means to get about solving problems.

Remyl: My sense of humor

Sasslyn: My longtime attempt to not truly accept being a nerd

Yvakara: A good part of Yva's personality inadvertently is based on my mom, and her old-fashionedness while still keeping up with the times. And the fact that she tries to be everyone's mom.

These are just some examples, but I'm sure I can find the same with other chars.
