1. Retain individuality and intelligence.
2. Elven and human origin most of the time.
3. Possesses constant, raging fury and jealousy for the living.
4. Capable of dealing rationally, if grudgingly with others.

11. It would keep extraordinary opponents alive to turn into wights.

Alignment: Lawful Evil

Personality:
Veneficus seethes with anger at his own state and jealousy of those alive, his boundless orbs baneful as they fixates upon the living, even those that he sought to manipulate to his own means. He possesses a raging fury that is reflected in his actions more than his words, for he tends to speak in a breathless, whispery voice laces with an undercurrent of menace. Retaining his individuality and the memories of his past, he is capable of dealing rationally with the living, though he sometimes lack the empathy necessary for conversations.

For all the evil that breeds in his cold black heart, however, he abides strongly by a code of conduct as he deals with others, a strict adherence to his dealings that might surprise some. Nonetheless, cunning and scheming, those who do deals with him deals very much with the metaphorical devil, and he would rein in no punches if he could find away to manipulate someone to his own desires at the cost of a other. But these are his personality of death, and much of his own antics come from life. . .

In life, Ryan was a power-hungry and selfish individual, although he does not necessarily partake in acts of evil. Instead, he has an amoral attitude that was oft reflected by his cynical apathy, willing to abide by much if doing thusly would allow him gains. He was and remains very much a coward, though he tries hard to mask that fact, often trying to avoid battles if possible and instead relying on others to do the fighting for him. With all that being said and done, however, if he is cornered, he would fight with a brutality and frenzy normally unassociated with him. In addition to all that, Veneficus is an avid painter and patron of the arts, quite willing to enjoy music and opera in life, lavishing in the morbid dramas and plays with a cold fascination. He also maintains an educated and regal bearing, his demeanour often one of cynical amusement, occasionally falling into musing trances.

History:
Ryan Darion the Third was born in the Year 580 of the King's Calendar to a minor noble family in the Capital City of Lordaeron, and on the day of birth he landed his first blow on his father's face with his flailing arms. A nasty, whining brat from young, he lives a sheltered life and bred a superiority complex that he sought to place him above his peers. A bully by nature, but a coward within, he used his father's prestige and wealth to gather a group of cronies around him and terrorize the neighborhood as a young tyrant.

But for all his insecurities, he is no idiot. Possessing a sly cunning and intelligence, he is nonetheless capable of carrying his weight in his studies, yet it does little but made him more arrogant and prideful. With his gang around him, he is a rouser and a nuisance maker, with a mischievous disposition as he dances his way through his teenage life. His tutors could do little to him, the scion of his house and backed by his nobility behind him, while his peers regard him with fear and revulsion. And then a curious thing occurred, for Ryan in his antics found himself drawn to a girl at the age of usual teenage folly, barely sixteen of age.

Ariel, she calls herself, a studious, cheerful girl that seems so contrapuntal to Ryan that the affection was inexplicable. Ryan gave up almost everything, his little group of cronies, his antics, and instead devoted himself to her. He lavished her with gifts when Love is in the Air, walked with her amongst the lanterns of red during the festivities of the Elder Week, strolled amidst the fragrant parks during the Noblegarden, and even, even assisted his compassionate love when she insisted on helping during Children's Week. It was at this stage then that Ryan developed his own love for the arts and operas, enjoying his nights out to watch the latest dramas with Ariel. And when their noble's academy ends, he followed her to Dalaran, drawn by her passion for the Arcane into the Arcane.

But Magic is powerful, and power corrupts. For all that Ryan portrayed his new self, the innate desires and folly within him never changed, for as he goes further in the Arts, as he circumvents the normal, he finds in many way a new love. Perhaps a second love. His greetings to Ariel become a tad more half-hearted, his attention becoming occasionally distracted and he finds himself sometimes jaded at the thought of slowing the studies of a particular topic simply to spend time with Ariel.

Apprentices, the two of them were sheltered in the city of Dalaran when the orcish invasion of the Alliance began, and they remain relatively detached from the war and sufferings that occur around them. Living in a secured environment where all their wants are provided for, knowing little of the war except from exaggerated tales magnified into rumors, the duo knows nothing of war or loss, nothing of death and despair.

Meanwhile for Ryan, as the years passed, the pace quickened. He began to delve deeply into the Arts, venturing into domains where men should not tread, diving into forbidden pools of knowledge. He wants to dominate those around him, and as he furthers himself in the ranks of Dalaran, he began to instinctively draw around him the dispossessed, the spineless and those that bask in the approvals of their peers. Ryan became the de-facto leader of this gathering, his nature that dictates the necessity of him controlling matters driving him onward, broadening the insecurity in his heart, magnifying he spark of tyranny within him. And as time goes by, the invisible rift between him and Ariel, a love that had lasted years, slowly inched wider. Ryan became more protective, more possessive, almost maniacal in his comparison of the binary parallel of the safety of his love and his pursuit of the Arts.

In a curious stroke of Fate, however, the currents of destiny were inexplicable in their cruelty or benevolence. In the year 617 of the King's Calendar, the Plague struck Lordaeron, an inexorable wave of despair that swept towards the Capital City from East Lordaeron, as rumors bred in the quagmire of confusion. None truly knew what happened, and the duo hid in the Capital as their parents were swept by politics, hearing only fractured tales and scattered truths, neither knowing even an iota of reality. The Plague came from the food, some said, and the prices of food soared as desperate men took desperate measures. Rats were slaughtered on the streets and curfews were enforced, but even thus discontentment peaked and confusion courses through the populace. Ryan tried to focus on his studies then, demanding, desiring, the power to dictate his fate and cursing his helplessness to control the things happening around him.

And then He came. Prince Arthas, the vaunted savior of Lordaeron, who had travelled across the seas to fight on behalf of his people. He returned to the Capital City and all that Ryan had known was laid to waste. Before his eyes his parents were slaughtered and raised. Before his eyes, he stood helpless as Ariel, his Ariel, was killed.

He snapped then. But even as he raged and screamed, even as he hurled his spells until his mana ran out, he was nothing more then a fool caught drowning in the smothering currents of fate. But he was vindictive. He was spiteful. He was restless. And he rose from the dead as a wraith, an uneasy spirit who holds within him boundless rage, infinite anger, sheer undiluted hatred for the living and the dead. Prince Arthas's necromancers might have controlled him, but every moment of it did nothing to decrease the immense wrath bubbling within him, did nothing to decrease it by a single iota.

And when Prince Arthas fell, Ryan arose reborn. He broke free from the shackles from control and demanded from the world what he felt was rightfully his. He remembered his weakness and failure in protecting his love, he remembered the pain of loss, but most importantly, he remembered the need for power. Now, Veneficus seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is undeath. Every moment he spends plotting to escape unlife, observing the living with jealousy while he desperately attempts to amass power for himself. Ironically, the more he grasps, the harder it is to let go, and the further he falls into the monster that he does not want to be.

I don't believe there are any robed models of wraiths.

EDIT: Also, if he hates all the living, then why would he work with an organization headed by a Human?

Wraiths are intelligent beings capable of dealing rationally with others, albeit grudgingly with the living, if doing so would allow them to gain what they desire. It is an oft repeated point. For more on wraiths: <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.wowpedia.org/wraith]www.wowpedia.org/wraith</a><!-- w -->

They would even abide by their promises and contracts to the 't'.
