ICly?

I imagine your body slumps to the ground while your spirit goes out and explores for the duration of the potion.

The effect it has on you in-game (OOCly) is simply that your character lays down and sleeps on the ground (with the nifty "Zzzzz..." to go!) and you can maneuver around as something completely invisible for a moment and run about the place. So it's not clear if you really become anything since you're a bodyless... "something" that just runs around.

I guess it kinda works like [spell]Far Sight[/spell] and [spell]Eye of Kilrogg[/spell] put together, without the visible eye floating thingy.

I interpret it as something akin to a druid entering the Emerald Dream. Your body hangs in limbo while your consciousness - invisible - can go out to explore freely.

I don't think it's as complicated as you might think. I would take it at face value.

Mhm.

I more or less just wanted thoughts from others before I even tried to introduce a potion akin to it, or the very same potion, IC. I wasn't personally sure how to go about the effect.

It seems like a lucid dream, just... kinda real.

Check out this excerpt from The Well of Eternity where Malfurion goes into the Emerald Dream to spy on the Highborne in Zin-Azshari. Maybe it'll give you some idea:

Richard A. Knaak Wrote:Pg. 197-198, The Well of Eternity

And with that done, he was able once again to enter the dreamscape safely.

Free from earthly confinement, he paused to gaze down at his friends, especially Tyrande. It was easier this time to summon the images, transpose the reality over the idyllic landscape. Both Brox and Tyrande immediately materialized . . . as did his own body, of course.

To his surprise, he noted a tear drifting down on of Tyrande's cheeks. Instinctively, Malfurion reached to wipe it away, only to have his finger pass through it. Yet, as if feeling his nearness, the young priestess reached up with her free hand and not only wiped away the tear, but also touched the area.

Forcing himself to turn away, Malfurion looked to the sky again. He focused on the direction of Zin-Azshari, then stepped up.

The familiar greenish tint permeated everything. Malfurion concentrated, again overlapping the shadow world with elements of reality. With what seemed a combination of half walking, half flying, he drifted over the now-covered dreamscape, sensing the myriad aspects of both the true and subconscious worlds.

Hope that might help in some form, though looking back I can't really imagine how it would. Oh well.

Of course, a druid working in the Emerald Dream would of course be different than the potion in that you'd be subconsciously exploring the real world vs. a naturefied ideal version of it, although fundamentally I imagine they're similar.

As a note, later on in the chapter it reveals that Malfurion's consciousness is invisible, can go through walls, but is still able to be sensed by some magical means.

It would probably cause some sort of Astral travel, which is considered an out of body experience where the user falls into a deep state of meditation or sleep and have an out of body experience where they leave their physical body this is called an Astral body which is themselves out of their own body, and usually on another plane different to the one your physical body is on, invisible to others, which, allows you to travel to dangerous places without getting your butt kicked. :D

And I am not strapped in,
Maybe I should hold with care,
But my hands are busy in the air.

It amazes me how we both seem to have come upon the same potion around the same time with thoughts to use it icly.

Back on topic, I was thinking it was sort of what MrBubbles was already saying. Your consciousness is released. Of course, I'm sure there is some way that other players might be able to sense you that could be discussed on case by case basis.

You all know by now that I love making things stupidly complicated so feel free to disregard my own thoughts on this.

To me, the elixir simply gives the drinker an ability identical to Far Sight. Now, when I use that spell, I don't simply decide to use it and manage it with a mere snap of my fingers. It requires quiet meditation, undisturbed and involving its fair share of mind-altering substances (sapta, incense, etc). What I view this elixir to do is give non-Shaman this ability. The catch, however, is that to use it properly and safely it would require some form of training or to be guided by a Shaman or anyone else adept in this sort of thing. I can imagine walking around without your body, or even looking down at your own body could be quite traumatizing if you're not prepared for it.

To me, I think it just sounds like a variant to a potion of invisibility. Just that, your body gets to stay behind.

I believe this is essentially what everyone else has said, and the fact that Nexi pointed out- the traumatizing experience of seeing your limp body -As far as I know, ICly Shaman who are unprepared get terrified of using Far Sight or even Ghost Wolf if they weren't trained. ICly, the imbiber would probably need either a Shaman or someone who used the potion before to teach them how to not freak out.

I'm more inclined to believe that if gives you a vision of the world around you but empty. More like a model of the world viewed at on a computer.

If it's so easy to leave your body why does not shaman's use this thing all the time. Why does not anyone?
