cynicalryan`s Introduction
#1
First and foremost: Tell us about yourself, as a player.:
I like to split my time between levelling and RPing, sometimes the one being a distration from the other, and the split is by no means even, being heavy in favor of RP (depending on my mood).

However, even when levelling, I prefer to do it in a group, chatting along with whoever I grouped with. It kills the time while grinding, and makes it much more fun, especially trying to translate game mechanics into role play.

And travelling, on a well-populated server, while levelling my character up has lead to interesting conversations all the time, leading to character and player acquaintances.

What country do you come from? What is your primary language?
The answer would depend on what you mean with "primary". My native tongue is German (seeing as I hail from there), though my English is on a native-speaker level by now.

How did you get into Warcraft?:
Warcraft II got great reviews back when it came out, and when I was a believer in game reviews giving a score at the end. I enjoyed the story, eventually got Warcraft I, and fell in love with Warcraft III. Friends roped me into trying WoW, and I played for 12 months on the retail servers. Though, since the RP is lacking on the official servers, despite endless petitioning to GMs, I've turned to private servers, since raiding was a bit too time intensive, and a WoW subscription got ever more difficult to justify.

What made you seek our server over others? (or How did you find us?):
Found this server via lots of googling for WoW private RP servers. The link to this server was the last (no, really, I was ready to give up my search!) attempt to find a server I agree with (like: no instant 80, as Blizz-like as possible, extensive documentation like CotH's wiki).

What kinds of roleplay do you enjoy?:
This depends on my mood, really, and how much RP I can take at any given time. I prefer small groups (say, to 5) to large crowds (10 is usally the breaking point), since it become difficult to keep track as to who said what, and to keep my character straight.

That said, I don't shy away from larger crowds, but it usually ends up with me and a buddy or two of mine sitting in the peanut-gallery, Waldorf and Stattler like.

What is your favorite race/class? Why?:
That's two, actually.

I like to play Dwarf Paladins, to indulge in my do-gooder nature, and the concept of the preacher in heavy plate appeals to me (which is how I play all my paladins, more or less).

My second combination are Night Elf Death Knights. The tragedy of the lost world tree Nordrassil together with the fall of such a once-immortal being to the Lich King provides endless fodder for my, well, darker impulses. Thus, my DK is usually the anti-hero of a story, looking no further than the defeat of Arthas. Preferrably killing him in person (even the undead may dream).

What are your expectations of this server?:
I am not sure what to expect, to be honest. The impression I get from the server policies are promising, though, so that I get to experience role play of different kinds (I don't want to stick to my comfort zone all the time), though that the population is low (even though I understand, and agree with the reasoning behind it), makes me wonder if there's enough diversity around.

Anyway, I'm open to see what happens once I am on the server, and get to experience the community in the game.

Out of all of our rules and regulations listed on our server, which appeals to you the most?:
Keyboard skills.

Sounds mean, but since English is my second-language, typos can still trip me up, even though I spent time in the US (even had a significant other in Indiana, once upon a time), and I'm pretty annoyed at myself when I make typos. Even the famous "teh". That said, I understand if somebody makes mistakes, and not everyone is Hemingway or Shakespeare (and I'm certainly no Goethe), but txt spk gives me the heebie jeebies.

Lastly, tell us a story! It can be short, it can be long; but most importantly, we want to see your work in action. Go!:
Reifnir looked down at the plains, where a small band of undead had gathered in the distance, and groaned.

"By the light, lad, you are mad. The three of us against at least a dozen, more likely 'n not more?" He looked at his human companion, who was grinning.

"Some paladin you are. Sir Uther wouldn't've hesitated a second."

"The Lightbringer is also dead, lad, and he was a hundred times the warrior that I am." Willard sobered at the Dwarf's blank expression, which wasn't a sign of anything good, nine times out of ten.

"The light knows, I don't refuse a call to arms." Reifnir lifted his polearm in a small gesture. "But it also knows I'm no babbling wee lad, too stupid to know that fire is hot. The numbers are against us if we just rush in like fools."

"Reifnir's right, Willard, even though he's lecturing again," said the third of the group, a tall, wiry night elf. "There's just too many of them."

Willard grunted. "It goes against the grain, you know."

"I do, lad." Reifnir looked over the land, leaning forward in his saddle.

"See that?" He pointed to a small grove, growing where the creek flowed a slower and wider than otherwise on the plain. "That creek there would make for a good choke point, and the underwood should slow them down, so that Thyras here can string his bow, while we have to deal with only two, at most three of them at once. Assuming they don't have a mad sorcerer with them."

Willard and Thyras followed Refinir's gesture, both of them frowning. "You are right," Thyras said finally. "And it's a fast flowing creek, too. We should be able to cover Thyras with ease."

Slow, the three of them -- the paladin, the hunter, and the warrior -- made their way to the creek. While Thyras climbed a tree, Reifnir and Willard readied their weapons.

"Light, bless thy servant's companions, fighting the scourge today in thy name. Bless our arms and armor, and give us the strength to survive this day in your service."

Willard nodded after Reifnir's short blessing, raised his sword and shield, and yelled, "Oi, you rotten lot. Come here, and take us. Or are you afraid to meet your end? Kel'Thuzad's jar was smarter than he himself!"

The undead turned as one, which began to make its way to the three mortals, eager to add three fools to the Lich King's host.

Reifnir held his polearm at the ready. "Let's do the butcherin' work, lads."

Is there anything else you would like to add, ask, or otherwise clarify?:
In the above story, Reifnir would be my player character, while I made up Thyras and Willard from whole cloth. That I don't go into Reifnir's physical attributes in any depth is because I tend to develop those traits, as well as habits, during role play. It's been like that ever since I started off with pen and paper RP, and a difficult habit to get out of. Character Creation will be a long, laborious process, I guess.

Good thing I caught on to the story being meant to be Warcraft related, and not just "write something, anything", otherwise I'd've reposted a piece of fiction that I have "in storage", so to speak. ;)

Right, I'm rambling. Thank you for your time, and for creating a well thought out account and character creation process (that I'll make certain to steal if I ever need to do something similar :) ).

Hello cynicalryan! I'm Loxmardin and it's my pleasure to welcome you to Conquest of the Horde!

If you haven't already, I'd suggest that you double-check the rules and policies of the server on our very own CotH Wiki. If you have any questions, you should consult the Wiki and the available subforums which contain a fair bit of information ("Forum: Search" is your friend!) first but you are of course always welcome to contact a GM if you can't find what you're looking for, or ask on the forums!

Have fun, enjoy your stay and see you in-game!

Happy RPing!

I already am, voracious reader that I am, but thank you nonetheless. :)

Good introduction, by the way.

Though, I'm not good at the "tell us about yourself" parts of questionnaires.

Anyway, got a bit of reading and Lore-diving to do now. ;)
