goblinpaladin`s Introduction
#1
First and foremost: Tell us about yourself, as a player.:
As a player, at least on retail servers, I tend to keep things varied. I dabble a bit in all aspects of the game, PvE, PvP and everything in between. However, what I always go back to is roleplaying and it also happens to be what I enjoy most about the game. WoW is a great game in itself, but being able to push the already compelling lore one step further with player driven story-lines is what keeps me hooked.

As far as roleplay goes, I can be super serious if that's what the situation calls for. Occasionally, I'll post some emote or something that's obviously from my perspective rather than the character's, a little bit of comic relief, you know? I know when it's uncalled for though, so no need to worry about me ruining the mood with badly timed silliness. I know at the very least enough lore to keep in character at all times, and I tend to avoid elitism, which is just... really, extremely annoying to me sometimes.

All in all... I don't godmod, I don't powerplay, no mary-sues, and as far as game mechanics go, I know my classes and don't stand in fire. =P

What country do you come from? What is your primary language?
I'm from the USA and I speak English pretty adequately, though I started out with German, which I now scarcely remember.

How did you get into Warcraft?:
I've been a gamer since I was a little kid. One of my earliest memories is my father flipping out because the baby beat him at Mario Bros. at around three years old. I've also been pretty obsessive over medieval fantasy for a long time. And mages. Good lord, yes, obsessive over mages. Can't help it, they're awesome.

Off topic though! I ramble. Being a gamer obsessed with medieval fantasy and magey types, and one who was unfamiliar with PC gaming at that, the first time I saw an ad for an mmorpg I was hooked on the concept. It just so happens that the most advertised mmorpg at the time was World of Warcraft. It was the first mmo I ever played, and it just so happens that I picked the best.

Besides, Ozzy approves. Who could argue with Ozzy and Mr. T?

What made you seek our server over others? (or How did you find us?):
Well, I've only played retail roleplay servers at this point. Ran a private server for a while, but it was a lonely, self contained sandbox of wish fulfillment and flying Zhevra. Every time I get into a roleplay server, like -really- into it, it dies. So, I decided to google private roleplay servers and you guys were first.

That's not to say I didn't look into others, I did; CotH seems the most active and involved of the lot, also the furthest patched from what I could gather. I like your policies too. Better quality in general than the rest, really.

What kinds of roleplay do you enjoy?:
Any and all. (Well, short of erp, which gets boring and uncomfortable quickly.)I'm just as happy sitting around The Wayfarer's Rest as I am with an in-character dungeon run.

I think one of the aspects of roleplaying that appeals to me the most is forging meaningful, long term relationships with other characters and watching how those characters progress and evolve as people over time. It's not something I can find often, but when I can it's usually the most memorable and fulfilling roleplay to be had.

That being said, it's just plain fun to get drunk with a group of strangers your character will never see again, or get into a debate with someone in a tavern over some casual remark, maybe find someone out in the wilderness who needs help with something and offer assistance.

Roleplay is everywhere, or it can be at least, and I enjoy all of it. I think it comes from playing too much Dungeons and Dragons. Haha

What is your favorite race/class? Why?:
Favorite race? Goblinssss... :<

I know, you don't have them yet, I can totally cope with that.

I was always interested in them, since before they were even announced as a playable race. I like how they think; they're straight forward, resourceful and pretty much fearless. They'll do anything to get what they want, and if they put their minds to something they WILL get it done. They went from slaves to international economic leaders, even going as far as enslaving their captors. They don't take attitude from anyone; they can be fierce, but they aren't reckless about it (generally).

As far as a favorite non-goblin race? Sin'dorei. It's not because they're pretty though, don't go giving me that 'oh, obviously a noob' look. I like them because of their history, and their constant struggle between the elegance and poise of their high elven heritage and the prejudice and unabashed malice and greed they've adopted in more recent years. I certainly don't play them as perfect, beautiful, Tolkien-esque
wonders; I like their bad side, it's the grit that makes them interesting.

As for classes: despite the user-name, as blasphemous towards the lore as it is, my favorite class is not paladin but mage. It's probably because I enjoy the mechanics of the class in part, it's very dynamic and versatile when played correctly. My first really serious roleplay character was a mage and he was such a deep and multifaceted character after a while... that also plays a big part in why I favor the class; because a lot of my best memories in game are of that mage and his circle of friends.

To tell the truth though, I don't have a favorite as far as roleplay goes. My characters are never too much alike, and it's not always the class that makes the character. In fact, I've actually rerolled before because sometimes the class I started with no longer matches the character's direction in life.

What are your expectations of this server?:
I'm not sure exactly. I have a lot of hopes, but not really expectations. Since it's more discerning than a retail server I expect to be free of trolls and people who purposely disrupt things. I expect a much higher percentage of roleplayers, though a lot less people overall. I'm optimistic about it being more of a community than any retail server I've played on. I'm also totally prepared to put up with uber lag and bugginess.

Other than that, I don't really want to speculate. I figure, it seems like a positive change from retail roleplay, and I'll see how it goes rather than forming preconceptions.

Out of all of our rules and regulations listed on our server, which appeals to you the most?:
Respect, from everyone for everyone regardless of rank, race, gender or anything else. I think that's something that's really lacking in a lot of games these days.

Lastly, tell us a story! It can be short, it can be long; but most importantly, we want to see your work in action. Go!:
(I'll do this later. I've got a lot of short stories floating around, but I want to post something appropriate (I curse like a drunken sailor when left to my own devices, which I know isn't allowed here) and relevant to the character(s) I eventually roll.)

Is there anything else you would like to add, ask, or otherwise clarify?:
I do have a couple questions; for one, I noted in the rules that no one is supposed to mention drug use. Does this include Azerothian substances that are generally accepted as drugs? Like blood thistle and the like? And about the section 'Knowing when to quit'; is it acceptable for your character to pretty much be a jerk as long as you apologize/quit if someone tells you they're offended? I know most people don't usually take things the wrong way, so it seems a little excessive to whisper someone every time your character does something uncouth. It's not going to be a big issue with me, but I'd like to know in case I ever decide on a character who's generally disagreeable.

I'll probably think of more, but I'll ask later; I'm already feeling bad for building the Great Wall of Text here, I've got no idea how much you were expecting. =P

*'Oh, obviously a n00b' look* ;)

Welcome!

To answer your questions, both the 'drug uses' and 'knowing when to quit' rules are primarily aimed OOCly. ICly they are fine, so long as it doesn't seem like you're attempting to take advantage of it.
In regards to goblins... ya never know! It may be possible for you to play one after you make gruntship! :)
