Battlemage

Okay, here's the deal... I am absolutely confused. For some time now I strive to make Hebry a BattleMage. Yet, I was told it's a Prestige and I need to wait for Prestiges to reopen. Then I was told it's a Category 1 prestige, but I still need to wait for Prestiges to reopen. Then I was told I can take it, because it's a Category 1 Prestige. Then I was told it's not on Prestige list, but I can't take it, because it would be multi-classing. And finally, I was told it's not a Prestige and I am allowed to be one... will someone please explain to me...

Are Battlemages a Prestige class and if not, can I claim such a title?!

You can be a Battlemage. It's not a prestige anymore.

Realize that all this means is that you're a mage trained in using a sword as well. Or whatever weapon that might be. None of this 'I'm a walking tank encased in saronite armor who throws out fireballs whilst wielding Armageddon'.
