The Cult of Resurgent Cessation
#1
The Cult of Resurgent Cessation

Word of mouth has been traveling through necromantic circles for some time. While never the social sort, Necromancers and their allies do have a need of communications, and in those communications, someone has been feeding the rumors.

It can’t be said who started this rumor, but it can be said that it has spread considerably in the past weeks. The rumor is silly, of course, or likely a trap or some attempt to earn the ire of other groups. The rumor states that someone intends to pull together a necromantic cabal.

The proposed desires are even less sane than the concept. This cabal’s leader intends to pool minds together, and build up a force with the intent of creating a second Scourge. A “better” Scourge. As the rumor goes, they seek an intelligent Scourge.

They market it as a gambit at utopia achieved through undeath. An escape from the fear of death that most living creatures have, even if just at the back of their minds. And to those already undead, they market it as a group actively seeking to end the fear of erosion, the “age death” of Forsaken when their will is lost. They appeal to the desire to exist and influence change forever.

“Immortality” is their goal, in a single word. Their ability to create it is doubted by most, yet to some, the concept appeals. Whether ruled by fear, or by logic, or by insanity, these are the ones who have formed the Cult of Resurgent Cessation.

Who are we and what do we do?

The Cult, even on paper, is more than a mere necromantic group. They are more than mere academics, mages or lunatics. They are, in the simplest of terms, a group of like-minded individuals working towards a goal by means including but not limited to things that many “normal” beings would take issue with.

Means:
Arcane Research
Scientific Study
Alchemical Research
Voodoo
General Biopsies
Vivisection
Kidnapping
Murder
Resurrection
Torture
Psychology
Physical Training
Biological Experimentation
Removal of Limbs
Lobotomy
Etiquette Studies
General Indecency
“Emerald Nightmare” Studies
Fel Studies
Warlockery
Shadow Magic
Polymorphing
Specific Indecency
And Numerous Other Possible Activities of Ill or Less-Than-Ill Intent.

Who do we accept?

To say “anyone” is a misnomer. Most Priests and Paladins of the Light who express an interest will have a rather hard time joining just via getting into the proper channels. From there, they will be under heavy scrutiny and likely be turned away at the door. Similarly, Shaman will be turned away as well, and almost all Druids and followers of Elune. There may be exceptions to this judgment and bias, but they will be rare, far between and so unlikely that it’s best not to bother asking for one.

Necromancers, Voodoo practitioners, Shadow Priests, Warlocks and Death Knights are the favored sort, while non-magical members have their uses as well. Arcanists and Rune Masters will be just as equally accepted.

The cult does not recruit along racial or faction lines. Upon joining, your loyalty is to the cult above all others.

That’s all well and good, but what would we even be doing?

In addition to the activities mentioned above, there will be numerous guild events, some extremely ambitious and others very small-scale. “Independent research” and other activities like it are also more than acceptable and may be started by anyone, so long as they have in-character justification.

Ranks:

Grand Mistress
Her orders and commands are to be followed above all else. If she tells you to tear off your own arm, you’re expected to do so or at least be willing. If not, demerits are the best case scenario and the loss of both arms is second-best.

Lieutenants
Report directly to the Grand Mistress. They and she make up the core, governing group of the Cult, and their duties, responsibilities and the like are to be followed just as sternly as the Grand Mistress’s.

Enforcers and Cultists
Enforcers make up the martial half of the Cult. They are the non-magical, non-academic members usually sent on missions and tasks that involve stealth, non-magical actions or just brute force. Kidnappings, interrogations and the general stuffing of the Cult’s coffers are all responsibilities of Enforcers, as is keeping general order between Cultists.

Cultists, by comparison, are the academic element of the group. Magic users, they are expected to apply their skills and knowledge to furthering the goal and understanding of their respective fields, all with the ultimate intention of transcending life and death. Unless specifically ordered, how they go about this is largely up to them, and they are encouraged to work with Enforcers for any of their needs. These needs may include “test subjects” and “non-standard alchemical ingredients” such as Tauren hooves, Orc skin or Troll blood.

Initiates
Initiates are neither members of the Cult, nor are they outside of it. They are the ones to whom the Cult has revealed themselves, though they have not been entrusted with things like access to the Cult’s meetings. Initiates also serve another purpose, as those who are initiated but not worthy of Cultist status… Well, their corpses may do more for the cause than their minds or skills would ever have.

Rules:

IC:

1: Any betrayal of the group to non-recruit outsiders is grounds for immediate expulsion and execution.

2: Any experiment or activity that threatens the stability or safety of the Cult is to be ceased upon orders from a superior. If continued, this is grounds for immediate expulsion and execution.

3: Superiors are to be respected and obeyed. Any disobeyed order is grounds for immediate disciplinary action which, if the transgression was severe enough, may result in immediate expulsion and execution.

4: Cult members are not to conduct experiments or research on other cult members without their consent. Any member caught doing this will have their research thoroughly scrutinized and filed. If no reasonable gains have been made because of this research, the transgressor may be immediately expelled and executed. If the research has made reasonable gains, then the transgression may be forgiven in the name of the many over the few.

OOC:

1: All server rules, policies and the like are to be followed as normal.

2: Guild members are expected to conduct themselves like civilized people IC and OOC.

3: Character warnings are to be given every time character death is intended. The argument “it should be common sense” will not be tolerated on the grounds that it makes people nervous about RP with the guild, for fear that their character will be killed on sight. We’re twisted, but we’re not homicidal maniacs. (And if you are a homicidal maniac, you still are required to give a character warning OOC.)

4: Don’t be stupid, please? Common sense is your friend.

In all likelihood, the guild will never reach fruition of their goals, but that’s hardly what this is about.

Hope to slay you soon! ;)

As someone wise once said, the important thing is never to be fearless or confident. Most people have more than enough trouble with both. The trick is to fake it, because if you learn to fake it properly, it's the same thing as actually having confidence.
