The Lightsworn
#1
The Lightsworn

The era of good shall never arrive, while there are still those who would defy it. While there are still heretics seeking to bring death and destruction, there will never be peace. While there are still those that willingly associate with the heretic, there will never be . While there are still those that do not follow the Light, there will never be unison.

The only way we can bring about the era of good, is through the power of faith. Faith in the Light is what gives us our strength. Faith in the Light is what unites us. Faith in the Light is what will bring victory over the heretic. Faith in the Light is what will bring about the era of good and nothing else.
We shall convert those that do not follow the Light but are willing. We shall slay those that oppose the Light and cull the wicked from the faithful. Through blood and faith we shall unite the world and bring about the era of good!

~Grand Crusader Aleoseth, founder of the Order.

Who are we?

The Lightsworn is an Order of fanatical zealots, men and women who have sworn to live their entire life in servitude towards the Light. Faith is seen as the highest virtue amongst them and the power of unbreakable faith is a personal goal for each member of the Lightsworn. Their one and only goal is achieving the era of good, a time of peace and prosperity for the Kingdom, where each man, woman and child is united through their belief in the Light. Though their goal is ultimately good, the methods they employ are rather questionable. They belief that the only way to save the world and bring about the era of good is through converting those that are willing and killing those who are not. Though to the outside world is only known that they seek to eradicate evil, whatever the cost. They have however been known to take some people in for questioning...

Heraldry

A dark red background symbolizes both the blood of the innocent we are sworn to protect and the blood of the heretic we are forced to spill. The Holy Cross represents the union between the 4 Virtues of the Order: Justice, Truth, Valor, and Faith. The golden color of the border and the cross stands for our strong connection to the Light. This is the tabard of the Lightsworn, wear it proudly.

History of the Order

After the Silver Hand got disbanded by the mad Prince Arthas, many members of the Silver Hand refused to give up the fight against the undead. The members of the Orders weren’t among them. After the terrible event the paladin Theorius Aleoseth and his brothers in arms were left to wander the plaguelands, searching for more undead to slay. After a few days of wandering Theorius started to hear a soft, serene whisper in his mind. The Light itself had reached out to him and explained to him his purpose. He was to take his brothers south and find the survivors of the plague, with them he would form the Order of the Lightsworn and start the beginnings of the army of the faithful.

Theorius explained his vision to his other brethren and though some were skeptical they were all curious. They ventured south and found the survivors the Light spoke of. Theorius and his brethren lead them to safety. Many of the survivors were warriors and some even priests who swore their service to Theorius as gratitude. With them he formed the Order into what it is today. He united the warriors as the blades of Righteousness under the leadership of the Divine Champion. He united the priests as the Keepers of Faith under the leadership of the High Inquisitor. He united his brethren as the Crusaders of Justice under his leadership, taking up the title Grand Crusader for himself. As Grand Crusader he lead the Order succesfully until his death after which he was succeeded by the current Grand Crusader Amerand Silverwind.

Progression within the Order

Each member of the order goes through a few set steps of progression within the Order. The first step is to get initiated into the Order. There are but two ways one can achieve this. The first method is simply to ask one of the initiated members of the Order to be inducted into the Order. The second method is to be conscripted due to your family bonds. Those that are newly initiated into the Order are treated kindly. Those that were conscripted will forever be compared to their parent(s). After their initiation the new initiate is handed his robe and tabard. He will have received the mark of the Lightsworn, the holy cross and is set on his way to becoming a full member of the Order.

After the initiation the initiate is expected to study, train and pray. Once the initiate has proven himself to the leadership of the Order he may begin his trials. Each member of the Lightsworn undergoes three trials in his time as initiate. The first is the Trial of Faith, the initiate will have to prove that his will and faith are strong enough to resist corruption. The second trial is the Trial of Devotion, where the initiate will have to prove that his devotion to the Order and the Light is strong enough to withstand a lifetime of servitude in the army of the faithful. The third trial depends on the initiate's chosen path. Aspirant Keepers will go through the Trial of Wisdom, to prove their knowledge and understanding of the Light is sufficient for the work of a Keeper. Aspirant Blades will go through the Trial of Strength, to prove their might and skill is sufficient for the work of a Blade. Aspirant Crusaders go through the Trial of Virtue, to prove both their knowledge and skill is sufficient for the work of a Crusader.

After the initiate completes his trials he will join the brothers and sisters of his chosen path and serve in the army of the faithful. The way of this servitude depends on their path but each member is expected to pray at least once a day, to affirm their faith.

The Paths of the Lightsworn

The Blades (of Righteousness)

The Blades are righteous warriors who specialize themselves in slaying the many evils that roam the world. They practice with their skill with their chosen weapon daily in their training sessions with the Divine Champion and spend most of their time training their body to be but another weapon they can use to fight evil. The Blades serve as the front line of the Order in battle. They charge into the ranks of the enemy recklessly paying little to no heed to their defense, for they believe the Light shall protect them. When the Blade is not preparing for battle or combating evil, they will seek out evil to fight. The Blades are fierce warrior, they don't accuse people of heresy but will simply strike them down if they suspect them of such. They are a dangerous force to be reckoned with for all the evil forces in the world.

Recommended classes: Paladins, Warriors, Rogues.

The Keepers (of Faith)

The Keepers are the spiritual leaders of the Order. They offer guidance to members and outsiders alike. They lead the other members in prayer and hold sermons if they wish to address a particular issue. The keepers have been blessed with the wisdom to unravel the secrets of the Light and as such they often spend time theorizing amongst themselves in an attempt to uncover new wisdom. They also spend a lot of time researching the work of others and look after the Order's library. Unlike the other paths of the Order, the keepers are not combat orientated. Their purpose is to keep the faith of Order strong and the morale high. They do however still serve in the Army of the Faithful as healers and casters.

Recommended classes: Priests, Paladins, Mages.

The Crusaders (of Justice)

The Crusaders are the protectors of the Order. They look after the Keepers when they head into the streets to preach the Word of the Light. They help the innocent people of the Kingdom with whatever task they need help with. The crusaders can often be seen in other parts of the Kingdom, offering their aid to the citizens. They are the noble men and women that seek to convert others by serving as an example of the faithful. In battle the Crusaders form a defensive line, guarding the innocents of the battlefield and the more vulnerable casters.

Recommended Classes: Paladins, Warriors.

Leadership of the Lightsworn

Each path of the Lightsworn is headed by one leader. The Crusaders are lead by the Grand Crusader. The Blades are lead by the Divine Champion and the Keepers are lead by the High Inquisitor. Each of them have a specific purpose in the Order.

The Divine Champion

The Divine Champion leads the blades both in their practice sessions and in battle. The Divine Champion is the first to charge recklessly into the lines of the enemy, and the last to leave the battlefield. Believing his faith will protect him in battle, the Divine Champion sees no need to train his defensive skills and focuses completely on how he may best destroy the enemies of the Light. The Divine Champion is the strongest member of the Order physically and he is the one that all evil-doers should fear most. Be weary of the day when the Divine Champion knocks on you door, because chances are slim he will want to talk.

The High Inquisitor

The High Inquisitor is a man shrouded in mystery, only the Divine Champion and the Grand Crusader have ever gotten to see his face. The High Inquisitor spends most of his time hidden under the appearance of a more common member of the Order, a Blade, a Keeper, a Crusader or perhaps even Initiate. He is always vigilant, always on the lookout for any traces of corruption within the Order. Once he has found a member he finds lacking in Faith, he will don his fearsome costume. The sight of the High Inquisitor inspires a little fear in the heart of every member of the Order, for the methods he employs to ensure purity within the order are definitely not enjoyable. Be wary of the sight of the High Inquisitor and make sure not to miss even a singly daily prayer, or you may become the subject of his wrath.

The Grand Crusader

The Grand Crusader is the leader of the Order. The Orders of any member are overruled by his command. His tasks are many for he stands at the top of the chain of command. The Grand Crusader is the one who will lead the new initiates in their trials and offer them guidance. The Grand Crusader also concerns himself with the general well being of the members of the Order and the survival of the Order. He is joined by his Crusaders of Justice on the battlefield and stands with them proudly as they protect the innocent and vulnerable. The Grand Crusader is there for all the members of the Order whether they seek protection, aid or guidance.
