Dat second feedback thread?
#1
So, everyone's doing it. Why shan't I?

I'd like feedback on everything from my characters, to the Earthen Ring (so far), to me as a person.

Characters would be:

Torok
Ranzel
Vaethor
Curwen

... That's about it, in terms of my active or semi-active characters.

Fire away!

I don't RP with you much, nor have I been in your events, so this is what I have to tackle.

Remember, you asked for no mercy and you asked for this to be posted in public, so here ya go.

I feel like you don't give the GM team the benefit of a doubt that they deserve when it comes to making decisions. You take the situation as "How will this hurt me?" instead of "How will this end up benefiting the server as a whole?" and that is a rather upsetting view to take. You have this sense to jump down the throats of any decision you don't like and tend to argue tooth and nail without any sort of consideration to the other side. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten fed up trying to explain a situation to you and others when you just wouldn't even consider my words.

When you pull me into a skype call with a bunch of friends to discuss a character concept and I tell you it wouldn't be passable by current rules, I get ganged up on. This is happened many times where you and the ones in the call will you will start ranting on and on about how "it's a stupid rule" and that I should somehow change it and how the GM team doesn't know enough about the subject, so on and so forth. It's gotten to the point where I don't like accepting calls from you and your friends because I feel like I'm a scrap-goat for your complaints.

I don't like how you have tried to find any loophole in a rule in order to make a class one thing but seem like another. I'm tired of arguing all the time about the RPG books with you. While this hasn't happened recently, partly because I've stopped talking to you to avoid these situations, it's still happened and you just need to accept the fact that rules are indeed rules. I also know that it's not just you doing this, but the others have not come to me and ask for feedback.

If you don't like something the GM team does, that's fine and dandy, but complaining to me like I can fix it and just down-right being insulting in what you say? That's not a thing I want to be apart of.

Start to look at things from the perspective of why the decision might have been made. I made the mistake myself when I got angry over how -I- felt the poll was disregarded in the variant vs Free-form thing. Turns out I was so silly for that because the system in place now is wonderful and I should have seen it that way from the start.

Learn to step down and listen to others. It's impossible to get though to you sometimes when you're so stuck in your opinion that you refuse to even hear me or others out. I cannot tell you how much I've just wanted to hang up and block you from skype because I was so sick of hearing complaints with you not trying to understand why something is a rule. It's frustrating, it's annoying and it's something I don't want to deal with when I really can't even attempt to help the situation.

I love you like a brother Muhaha8, but sometimes I really just wanna strangle you though the internet.

What you have going good for you? You get excited about a character concept and from the few times I have RPed with ya, you stick very close to how you explained the character should be. You're good at keeping the tone of the character the same and often do not stray outside of it. What I see in your profile is often what i see in the character, so I know you're not writing down something for the sake of only getting level 80, but you actually use the profile as a guideline.

You're enjoyable to talk to when there's no server drama going on so I feel bad that I try to avoid skype conversations with you and your friends. If COTH issues are kept away, you're a pretty awesome guy. I want to see more of that and less of what was outlined above the paragraph before this.

<3 ya Nub.

By my calculations...

Nope.

You're still a nub. Thus I have no more feedback to offer you.

[We need to RP or something sometime so I can offer things!]

I've RPed with both Torok and Ranzel, and I think they are both very realistic and awesome as a whole. The Earthen Ring event I partook in was very enjoyable (even if Dunkhaan kept getting pwned XD), and in general I find discussing character development with you to always be interesting and insightful. All in all, I appreciate you!

Thank you, Jonoth! :3 That means a lot.

Also, updating the character list momentarily!

Alright, let's see.

First order of business! RP. We don't nearly do enough of it. That's my critique. I like Saneth (PROFILE THIS COOL CAT), and I like the little dynamic he's got going with Orthander when we break out the Illumination crew, but your other guys? I don't nearly see enough of them. Ranzel and Quintric have potential for a rivalry/partnership that might be interesting to develop, Torok would have been bros with Dhorgun if the Earthen Ring didn't hang, and Gorose and Jared are pretty interesting to play out, but again, not enough.

You already know that I'm greatly enjoying your Changeling game, or what little we see of it. :P My only gripe is that we can never seem to get a damn session running at the right time for everyone. (That and how you butcher British accents with your NPCs. But it's fine. It's only the Manchester accent you're butchering. You could butcher Manchester's anything and I wouldn't bat an eye. A more wretched hive of scum and villainy you'll never find. [/territorial rivalry])

As for your OOC presence, I find you highly amicable and easy to get along with. Honestly, you're just fun to talk to and be around, and you're fitting well into the purple. When we tackle profiles together it feels like we've been colleagues in that regard for much longer than two weeks.

I also realise I'm being overwhelmingly positive, which works, but for balance's sake I'll take the spotlight here to voice a few of my niggles with your behaaviour.

One thing I've noticed with you is that you have a temper on you. It's subtle and it's hard to bring out, but when you swing, you swing. The example that sticks in my head is when you caught wind of the Coven fiasco when Gregg was rescued from Parth's captivity by Annabelle, Cristovao and Castor, rather than released. It's not the only one I'm thinking about, but it kind of soured the (until then, pretty chill) mood in Illumination guild chat at that point and was a big reason I left the RP early. To paraphrase Jeff Bridges in TRON: Legacy, you really messed with my zen thing, man.

While we're on the subject, during our mutual bitching session about various guild projects and whatnot last night, I noticed that you seem to have a kind of negative attitude towards some of the community - and probably people - at large, especially when you're trying to run something for them and it doesn't go as planned or sputters out. This in itself is excusable - we all invest a lot of ourselves in our projects and storylines and it's frustrating when they don't bear the fruit we wanted to see. But you shared with me an anecdote in which you were flat-out rude to somebody who you partially attributed a guild plot's failure to, and I think that's something you can definitely fix. Ironically, I might be being a bit too frank here, but being rude rarely helps any situation. I'd be better off to practice as I preach, but really, courtesy is almost always a boon.

I also get the impression that, while you tend towards being easy-going, you have a few long-standing grudges with certain members of the community. The first time Gorose left the Harvest is what I'm thinking of here, but there are probably others that aren't coming to my sleep-deprived mind. Yeah. I know how this thing kind of grows on its own based on circumstance, but I think you could handle these a bit better.

All in all, I think you're a great guy, a fantastic roleplayer, an enjoyable OOC presence and a good forum helper, but I think if you rein in your temper some, avoid snapping at people and try to have a little bit more patience with your plots and projects, you, me and the server at large will be better off for it. <3 ya bro.

Still down for rezzing AO over the summer? :B

Been struggling with that temper for a loooong time... I really think I've made good progress with it, though; hell, a year ago, it'd have taken a lot less to push me over. I do believe the fuse on it grows almost daily, even if it's only a tiny bit.

I do suppose I get really attached to my guild, character, and event concepts, so much so that they become my brainchildren. A blessing, and also the elephant in the room. It helps me really get into what I do, but also backfires when I catch flak, or things just fall through. The blow-up I had ties in with my temper, too. I suspect as I get better with that, the example you gave will cease to occur! Or at least lighten up.

... I'm not going to comment much on any long-standing, mutual disagreements with players, if only because I don't want to get into the drama that always goes with it.

Totally up for it bro. :3

And dat good stuff, thank you! :3
