Demon Hunters: What You Need to Know!
#16
My initial arguments were over the first rational behind why Gnome DHs wouldn't exist. I would agree with the OP that Gnomes are probably amongst the least likely to walk the DH path, but mainly did not agree with the perception that all Gnomes are happy, peppy little tinkers. Speaking of, the Dwarf description above leads with "The Dwarves drink." So does pretty much every race. I don't think drinking (or drinking culture) is a prerequisite to whether or not a race would become a Demon Hunter. What has to be remembered in the DH race discussion is that certain races have been embroiled in the conflict with the Legion for much longer than others, and have far longer time to develop a culture around the seriousness of the threat. Also, you have to remember how controversial -any- theories about whether or not a race could become a Demon Hunter will be, and should perhaps add it more as a footnote rather than as fact.

With all that said, I neglected to say in my previous post that I think this is an excellent guide in the making, and that the discussion of such a tragic and interesting class is a welcome one! Keep up the good work!

With the news of non-elven Demon Hunters being non-existent, I have removed that section and replaced it with a Development and Equipment/Weaponry sections.

I'd ask that all the talk about how the different tattoos work and such should be removed completely. It's never, to my knowledge, been said in anything canon / RPG-Books, that the Tattoos gives them special powers. Nowhere is it written in any actual, confirmed to be cannon-place. They are strictly put on those recognised as true demon hunters. The only reason this causes a fel-sickness, is because it's burned into the skin using fel magic, and enduring the pain is the test. The tattoo does not grant any power. At all. They are not runemasters.

Common Sense; Questionable, still there.

Because the RPGs were declared non-canon, it's not as though we have anything to go by, anyway. To me, it's a way of varying the Hunters individually.

Yes, cosmetically, not by bestowing upon them a completely new set of abilities simply because they wear a different colored tattoo. Or is it like that with everyone? A rogue in purple armor must be better at stealth than one in yellow armor? Colors have always been directly tied to symbolism. Red is an angry color, so it would symbolize anger, not give a demon hunter super rage power and increased strength, or stealth, in case of such a dull contrast such as black tattoos.

Also, I know the books ware deemed non-canon, but still, it hasn't been confirmed, therefor there is no reason to grant them new abilities based on what their hair color, tattoo color or nail polish color is.

I think you're looking too much into it. None of them make you -better- at anything no matter what the colour or pattern. To me, it just sounds rude when you compare it to finger nail colour giving you more power.

The only ability that is given to a tattoo is the Shadow Tattoo. However, any DH can learn that ability. And it has major drawbacks.

The rest of the tattoos are simply changes in personality. Rage, you are more angry. Calm, you are calmer. Unity/Dissonance, you have multiple personalities/fighting styles.

None of those have abilities added. I find that, what muhaha8, is right. After all, it provides no bonuses compared to any other.

And they are, essentially runes. Designs that have power imbued in them. Regardless of your view, they provide the DH with fel power and a place to store it.

Perhaps it would be best to suggest that the idea of the tattoos being dynamic or providing any benefit (whether visual or physical) is mostly supposition. Or is something that some members of the community embrace while others revile (in other words, include a warning that it may not be canon).

Until there is some sort of consensus or something distinct passed down from the collective staff, a lot regarding demon hunters is conjecture rather than fact.
