From Dusk to Dawn
#1
It had been months since her acceptance letter made it’s way to her hand and Reigen was still just as confused as when she started. She was at a major disadvantage on two fronts. The first being that she was taking this training separate than most who flow from Arcanist to Magister. The second would be that she was not from a noble house, meaning that she did not have the prior knowledge of formalities and unspoken rules.

She had been ignoring the snide comments made by those who wandered the buildings with her, though the words still stung deep into her mind. In the end, it only strengthened the will of the small elf to prove others wrong about her. She had taken up the habit of carrying around a smaller notebook, using it to write down observations that would help her in her finial test. She had yet to do anything in the field, but was eagerly waiting her chance to do so.

Notebook Wrote:Mannerism to display:

- Never openly call an idea foolish or lacking in substance.
- Try to lead people away from bad ideas, let them think they're doubting it on their own.
- Never say no too much, allow small requests to pass though.
- If someone looks awful in an outfit, find a way to compliment them anyway.
- Never oppose the Silvermoon views, but you may add twists.
- Avoid speaking of interracial relationships. It is too heated of a subject to bring up. Always assume the other is against them.

Reigen sighed at the amount her notebook was lacking. Sadly too much of it was common sense to really be taught. It was something that those of noble birth all knew and was impossible to explain to outsiders. The elf knew she would never posses the knowledge of others and would be left behind rather fast unless she studied her rear off. It was not something she looked forward to, most of all between teaching and the whole 'Red Glove' scandal.

She had taken to studying the laws of Silvermoon as well, looking into them as in dept as she could to bring out the most important ones. While they were not laws by words, if several laws were merged together they would come out a lot more clear.

Notebook Wrote:Silvermoon Laws [In a nutshell]:

- Happiness IS mandatory, citizen or not.
- Break laws, you die. [Note: Do not break laws.]
- Crimes against fashion can, oddly enough, be something arrest worthy for 'disturbing the peace'.
- Do not insult the dress code of the guards. They will mess you up.
- Illegal drugs are not allowed in public. Hookah is fine.
- Happiness is mandatory. [Note: Act happy]
- Public drunkenness is disallowed, as is sleeping in the streets. [Note: Likely to keep up Silvermoons reputation as a clean city with happy, loyal people.]
- Publicly speaking out about the city, in the City or elsewhere, will brand you as a traitor and earn you the noose.
- Happiness is mandatory. No exceptions.

The small elf sighed, shaking her head at her notes thus far. She was displeased still with how unprepared she suddenly felt. She had writing formal letters down without a hassle, granted she'd take a very long time on her signatures. Once she practiced it enough, she'd be able to write even faster when she needed to.

A look of dread would cross the elf's features as she looked down to a different piece of paper. The paper would appear to be a class list of sorts as well as assigned reading. After a moment of hesitation, Reigen would let her eyes fall upon what was to be done.

Class List and Reading Materials Wrote:Classes for the week will consist of:

- Proper mannerism at the table
- Public speaking
- Writing official letters [Advanced]
- Silvermoon Laws
- Cultural understanding: Trolls

Reading Materials:

- Basic understanding of the Lesser Races
- Politics for the light minded: A guide to keeping your cool in debates
- Oh no, she didn't: A tale of ballroom fashion disasters
- Silvermoon Laws: The Laws of Silvermoon.
- Speaking with Grace: Avoiding stutters and uhs.

Weekly Essay:

What would you do in the following situation:

You heard of an elf who is dating a lesser race within the Horde and are speaking to him at a party. The subject of your love-life comes up and he doesn't speak about his at all. You don't know if the rumors are false and he is from a powerful noble family.

Turn in by next the end of this week.

Reigen twitched after a long moment, a look of pure horror upon her face. After taking a few deep breaths, the elf would drag herself to the public library, sign out the assigned books and prepare herself for the next days class. She glances down at the paper, almost dropping her books.

“Court is in session, everyone be seated before the honorable Judge and Magister.”

Reigen had to admit she’d been waiting a while to be able to get a glimpse inside of the courtrooms of Silvermoon, as unused as they are. Her trainer had convinced the judge to allow her to sit in and observe so that she could have a more visual way of learning and so she could take notes. As everyone was sitting and murmuring, Reigen was getting her notepad out and a quill ready.

“Fist we have here the case of Sir Suntree against Lady Dawnrift. Sir Suntree, please state your case for the court to hear.”

The judge sounded incredibly board and didn’t look like he wished to be there in the slightest. His entire posture was drooped down for the long day that was no doubt ahead of them.

Notepad Wrote:Being a judge seems to be a horribly boring job. Either that, or the current Judge simply has seen these types of cases too many times. Be sure to write down the decisions in each case in order to gauge a proper reaction should people come to you for advice.

“Thank you. I had contacted Miss Dawnrift about purchasing a mana crystal from her that she said had never been touched and was full and ready at any moment’s time. I went ahead with the arrangement due to being so trustful of another of our people. I’d never thought that she would scam me as she did! When I brought the crystal home in order to use it, it was nearly empty already!”

“Is that all?”

“Yes sir.”

The judge let loose a sigh, turning his head in order to look over at the accused Lady. ‘Suntree’ looked rather smug about himself with his nose turned up and eyes glancing just a bit to the side.

“And you, Lady Dawnrift?”

“Sir, I am a Farstrider and I do not often partake in the draining of mana like the mage accusing me of this. I received it from my sister who was a mage and she told me it was full. I honestly had no reason to believe otherwise. I also told Sir Suntree several times that I wasn’t positive if it was or not, and that I was told it was. I’ve offered several times to give his money back, but he insists that he wants more than what he paid due to ‘emotional upset’. I didn't even want the thing back!”

“Is that all?”

“Yes, sir.”

The judge took a deep breath, looking back over to ‘Suntree’. The man looked as smug as ever, as if counting the profit he was about to make on the case.

“Sir Suntree.”

“Yes, sir?”

“Did she ever sign a formal agreement that the object you purchased was in fact full?”

“No, sir.”

“So you took it by word of mouth from a women who admits to not partaking in mana as often as most and thus would not fully understand if it was truly full or not?”

“Er…yes?”

“Then that as your own oversight. You bring these cases to me at least once a week. I’ve half the mind to ban you from the court. Case dismissed. You are required to pay all fees.”

“B-but”

“Out!”

The lady was let out first, her head shaking in pure annoyance at the failed attempt to make a profit off of her. The man who accused her of such stomped out not long after, muttering curses under his breath. The judge offered Reigen an apologetic look for having to sit though with that.

Notepad Wrote:Case #1: Suntree vs Dawnrift

Dawnrift was accused of selling Suntree a depleted mana crystal for the price of a full one. This apparently caused Suntree a fair amount of stress and hardships. If successful, the women would have to repair the value plus three times the amount as well as the cost of the court fees.

Summery of testimonies:

Suntree - Knowingly sold him a faulted object for full price.

Dawnrift - Warned him several times that she wasn't sure and offered to repay him what he paid her.

Outcome of case: Dismissed.

Factors of outcome: Knowingly bought the item form someone with little experience with said item. Had no receipt or physical agreement of the sale. Refused to accept a refund with him keeping the object. Suntree is known for trying to sue-scam people in the courts as well. Judge highly annoyed with him.

Personal notes: Watch for repeated offenders for sueing. They themselves might just be the scammers here. Learn not to annoy judges, I don't think the higher ups care how biased they are so long as there is a verdict.

End note: Don't be a douche in court.

Several cases passed though after the ‘Suntree vs Dawnrift’ drama and most were relatively uneventful. They were seemingly easy decisions for the judge and rather dull to write about seeming as how they were all common sense. Out of duty though, the small elf decided to scribble down a few notes just in case her dear teacher had any questions about what she saw.

Notepad Wrote:Case 2 – Stealing things is bad. Guy had his hand chopped off after having the stolen object on his person at the time of the case. He squealed worse than Tharnul during the smoke-bomb incident.

Case 3 – Man attempted to skip out on supporting his children who he fathered in, how he described it, ‘a passionate, drunken mistake in which is her fault’. Needless to say he’s going to have to pick up a second job.

Case 4 – Women left the room in tears after the judge ruled that no, just because she slept with a man does not mean he has to marry her. I’m starting to lose faith in some of these people!

Finally case five and the last case of the day was about to start.

This time two men, one followed by a rather undressed women, walked into the room. The elder of the two mean appeared to be fuming in anger as he stood at his respective podium. The other male really had an air of not caring about him and the woman was staring around as if she didn’t have a brain in her body.

“Right…this is the case of Suntear against Sunwalker. Sir Suntear has a complaint against Sir Sunwalker against for…sleeping with his daughter. Sir Suntear, please elaborate.”

“This man slept with my daughter and spoiled her for marriage! She’s in ruins now and I demand he be made to spend time behind bars for destroying her life!”

“I se-“

“Honorable judge, if I may interject?”

“Eh…I suppose so.”

“This mans daughter is a whore. I paid for her services.”

“This is an outrage!” The father of the women turned on his heel and stared at the other man in anger. From how red his face was it looked like he was about ready to explode. The woman was as dimwitted as she appeared, staring up to the shining light in which hung just a bit above her.

“Sir, I have witnesses of other men who had slept with her.”

“I demand this man be thro-“

“Witnesses?” The judge interjected.

“Yes sir. Sadly, none of the Orcs who were involved could make it here.”

Sir Suntear looked absolutely relived at this, wiping away some of the sweat from around his eyes. His daughter, however, looked somewhat disappointed. Much to his dismay, a rather loud whooping sound was heard outside from what could be some rowdy individuals. It almost sounded as if…

“However, all the Trolls are waiting outside to give their statements.”

“But, t-t-this is an outrage…I…I…”

Reigen did all she could to hide the pure amusement that crossed her face at the father’s inability to keep his outrage and upset in check. The judge was quick to have a couple words with the guards who soon after made their way over to the daughter. The man looked about ready to protest while another went out to speak to the Trolls.

“We’ll take their statements…though…I think it’s rather obvious.”

“My daughter is no whore! She simply enjoys the air on her flesh for her tanned skin!”

“Sir, I can assure you that she is a whore, a very good one at that.”

“I…b-b-b-“

“I’m saying, sir, that your daughter is rather good in bed.”

“…You-“

“And I would recommend her to all my friends.”

“This-“

“She has wonderful-“

“Enough, you two.” Called out the judge after a few moments of watching them speak. “I do not need to remind you that…Silvermoon frowns upon prostitution within it’s walls and your daughter will be removed from the streets while we take in the testimonies of all those involved.” On these words, the guards dragged the rather clueless daughter away from the room.

“But, Ju-“

“Go home, Sir Suntear. With what’s left of your dignity, just go home.” He looks over to the accused Sir Sunwalker. “I will have to fine you of course, as you encouraged the act by sleeping with her. Next time…just…report it to a guard and…find a girlfriend or something. Dismissed!”

The judge shook his head as the man paid his fine and left the room. Those who had been observing all began to clear out and as soon as they were out of the room, Reigen let loose a long strain of uncontainable giggles. She was escorted to the main floor with the Judge as soon as she had finished writing her notes.

Notepad Wrote:Case 5: There are horrible images in my head from this one. Long story short, don’t be a whore and allow your father to take one of your customers to court over it. It will end poorly. Always.

“At least you were able to find amusement in this all.” The judge muttered while picking his things up and putting papers in their proper folder. “Shame you didn’t come around yesterday. We had a man tried for insanity after he walked around with a succubus and kept claiming he was the third reincarnation of Kael’thas and that Magisters Terrance was just a setback.”

“Really?” Reigen’s head tilted to the side, her expression turning a bit funny after hearing that. “I’m not sure if I should feel sorry for the guy or if I should recommend him for ‘joke-nights’ at the Inn.”

The Judge slide down from his chair in order to tower over the small mage, soon holding his hand out to her notepad. “Allow me to see your notes.” Reigen was quick to comply and offered them to the man. It took him only a few moments to read them over before he would hand them back to her.

“Is something wrong with them?”

“Not at all. In this court, most of the things you see are a matter of common sense that most people seem to lack. I’m sure once you progress in your training you’ll be permitted in the courts where the decisions aren’t always so easy to come by.” A piece of paper was then offered to her. “These are the days I’ll be holding court, feel free to stop by if you wish to observe more.”

Reigen passed on her thanks to the man before he walked briskly out of the room. She would make her way out as well, a light hum upon her lips.
