I'm looking to improve as a role player. What am I doing right? What am I doing wrong? What's something new I could do?
When I'm engaged in role play, I usually tune out whatever is happening in OOC. I keep IC/OOC chat windows separate to make sure of this. This is mainly because I don't like explaining my character's actions and thoughts, especially in the middle of the role play. I prefer playing my characters over talking about them. This is a personal preference, and in no way am I implying that such a preference is the "right" or "wrong" way.
The reason that I mention this is that beyond a character's attitude, I have no way of accurately gauging what the player behind that character really thinks. The characters I enjoy playing tend to incite anger, suspicion, and sometimes violence. However, I know that the player's opinion is probably not the same. I'm also interested in knowing what needs improvement and what I need to avoid changing. I want others to be able to enjoy and understand me as a role player, not just my characters.
List of Active Characters
Bastius, "The Goat"
Bastius is a former Auchenai caretaker corrupted by the dark energies of D'ore. Following his quest to pursue lost, holy scriptures in the Eastern Kingdoms, the Draenei now finds himself in the company of the Black Harvest.
Bick Leybolt
Bick is the twin brother of Bigli. They both graduated from the Learning Halls of Gnomeregan and College of Dalaran. Whilst Bigli spent more time with their father, a Kirin Tor Archmage, Bick grew closer to their mother, a published author and mechanostrider racer. His passion revolves around the combination of technology and magic. The Leybolt twins now spend the last years of adulthood scouring Azeroth for the next great discovery. Naturally, the two find themselves involved in plenty of shenanigans. (Bigli Leybolt is role-played by Vizkus)
Inactive Characters
Marty Fizzleshank
Marty is the short-tempered publisher of the Common Man's Quarterly. His business was run out of Stormwind after he began printing articles that criticized the "soft" and "corrupt" Military. Marty escaped to Hearthglen to rebuild. Since, his recent issues have been biased, often trying to monger hatred towards the Forsaken and Blood Elves in the city. Regardless of whether Marty was born mean or just doesn't give a hoot, conversations tend to be blunt and quickly escalate into heated debates.
Alcippe
Alcippe is a superstitious troll of the "old ways". After being traded to her husband at a young age for a spear, she used her knowledge of the spirits and Loa to become a well-respected member of her new tribe in Stranglethorn. Before passing her child-bearing years, she gave birth to her only daughter, Lith. Alcippe was always more concerned about "number one", which ensured that there was never a dull moment with Lith. However, when her husband arranged himself to wed their daughter, a move that would rob Alcippe of any respect and standing, she confronted Lith in public. During the climax of the inevitable argument, Alcippe killed Lith. She quickly fled to nearby Grom'gol and sought refugee in the passing Stormshade Clan.
John Maximus
Max is a three-war veteran and Scarlet runaway. Not yet content to die, he has dusted off his warhammer and brings a sense of compassionate fanaticism to the Inquisition.
Wesh Snowstrider
Wesh is a mild-mannered, Blood Elf information broker hopeful for his people's future. Although he lacks the ability to wield a blade, he is ready to do whatever it takes to keep things moving.
Fredrick Kappel
Fredrick is an Undead Alchemist serving the Argent Crusade. Rejecting his state and Forsaken doctrine, he looks to return to the days before the Scourge. It's said nothing short of a miracle can give the undead true life, and that is exactly what he intends to find.
I enjoy my writings, but I'm interested to know if others do. This is the best way to get constructive criticism and opinions on my story lines. In terms of skill, there's only one way to go from here.
