The Commoner's Party
#1
Let Us Never Forget
The People We Are Sworn To Serve

A Quick Out of Character Note:
Spoiler:
I've wanted to make a guild like this for a while now, both out of nostalgia and a desire to see a group based less on combat and more on character-against-character role-play.

The Commoner's Party is a Character-Driven Guild. Everything, from its goals to the morality that dictates its actions, will be dictated by its membership. Special emphasis will be placed on the character growth of its members. The guild will serve as a venue for players to evolve their characters and a way for them to have a hand in global role-play.

As a quick aside on the nostalgia aspect:The Commoner's Party has a special place in my heart. It was the first guild I took part in when I joined this server. It helped me ease into CotH's lore and, more importantly, helped me establish a group of friends that I enjoy to this day.

And while this guild bears a strong resemblance (In both name and spirit) to this historic guild, this Commoner's Party should be considered a separate entity entirely.

So please, instead of going off of past incarnations to make assumptions about this group, please read below.

I hope to see you at the next rally, comrade.

Purpose

The revolution has failed.

The blood shed in opposition to Stormwind has done nothing but provide bodies for the city’s morgue. Changes have to be made.

The Commoner’s Party, a by-product of the recent human revolutions, is a guild designed to work within the Kingdom of Stormwind’s government to protect the rights and interests of common citizens while expanding its political influence. Their over-arching goal is to give working citizens the chance to have their voice heard in politics. The group stresses rallies, political stunts and diplomacy over bloodshed and revolution. Events will center around its stance on non-combat role-play, with combat included sparingly.

Role-play within the guild will stress character building and intrigue between players, both in the guild and out. Members will have plenty of storylines and locations in Stormwind and other settlements across the Eastern Kingdom to role-play in and develop their left-leaning activists and cut-throat politicians.

As with all things worth achieving, the group's goals will be difficult to reach. As the party strives to better Azeroth and humanity the pitfalls of corruption and political intrigue may become all too frequent for these Party Members. It will be up to the members to either keep to the protection and diplomacy...Or devolve into bomb threats and blackmail.

The guild’s open nature will allow players to dictate the growth and morality of the party while influencing the world of Azeroth around them.

Joining

[An IC Poster will be placed here after Red Stormwind]

Joining the guild In-Character is as easy as finding the Party. You can find the Party by visiting the Commoner’s Party’s Stormwind base, attending a rally or running upon one of their informal meetings. Prospective members will be interviewed and given an appropriate position based on their level of commitment and abilities.

To join the guild Out of Character simply contact a guild leader. You can reach a guild leader by Private Message, Forum Posts below or whispers in game. Even if you have no idea what character you want to play or how you’ll get them involved, the guild leader will talk you through the process and set up a mini-event for your entrance.

The guild is restricted to Alliance members, with a preference given to Human and Human-sympathetic races. Most of the role-play, after all, will be based in human-heavy settlements and zones.

There is No Alignment Requirement for the guild. So long as the wicked can hide their horns and the good can swallow their pride, the Commoner’s Party is an equal opportunity employer.

As well there are No Class Requirements for the guild, though Death Knights may have a rough time proving themselves to a mostly living organization. Since the Chairman and many of the members are Light worshippers, Warlocks and Shadow Priests will have to hide their true selves.

Ranks

Guild Ranks have intentionally been kept thin to avoid confusion while allowing people ample room to elevate their position within the guild.

Promotions are handed out to those members who demonstrate loyalty, skill and initiative, both in character and out of character.

[Image: 2801kxl.png]Party Chairman
Though the Party Chairman, the leader of the guild, wields a high degree of power, most of it is evenly distributed through the Party Directors.
They wield the power of creating programs and veto.

[Image: 2801kxl.png]Party Director
The Directors function as the governing body of the Party and the Chairman's cabinet. Membership is composed of veteran members who have proven their capability. Each member, while capable of weighing in on a variety of issues, usually has an area of focus.

[Image: 2801kxl.png]Senior Officer
Senior Officers are veteran members who handle field work. They are trusted with work not normally assigned to normal Party Members.

[Image: 2801kxl.png]Party Member
The normal membership, Party Members are card-carrying members of the Commoner's Party. They serve a variety of functions as they work towards the betterment of the Common man.

You do not need to be a member of the guild to be considered a Party Member.

[Image: 2801kxl.png]Pamphleteer
An introduction rank, a pamphleteer is an outsider to the Party who still donates their time and energy to the cause without wearing the pin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: You make a lot of evil guilds, Rosencrat. Is this another bad guy group?
A: No. As said, the actions and goals of the guild are dictated by our members. That goes doubly so for our morality and how we achieve our goals.

It is up to the members to decide how good, evil or neutral this guild will be…And to take the consequences and rewards that come with the decisions.

Q: Will a Horde member be able to join?
A: No. The guild is Alliance-only right now. No plans are currently in the works to bridge that gap anytime soon!

Q: Will we be able to influence lore figures, control settlements and decide the future of faction cities?
A: Definitely not. The group’s intention is to ICly grow in influence…While OOC remaining to the server’s rules. We will not depose lore figures, even minor ones, or strive to change the lore in any way.

Q: Will we be able to go to war and seize settlements?
A: Again, no. War and settlement seizure are the sorts of things that revolutionaries do, not political parties.

Q: Do you have an invisible army on NPC soldiers?
A: The members that you see are the number of soldiers and party members we have.

Q: Do you only do non-combat events?
A: While the focus of the guild is on character interactions, some of our events will have a combat focus. We will, however, for the most part stick to non-combat events.

The most "yes" there ever was. The old Commoner's Party was one of my favorites, and I am so so so excited to see this now!

I'm disappointed that I missed the sign up for Red Stormwind :(, but I still can't wait for the guild to start! Human lands could definitely use some RP (and class consciousness :P) and this is a great way of generating it. I will join for sure!

Time for the obvious to be answered, is their primary ideal going to be Socialism/Communism, or is such a thing even invented yet by the party? (Of which would make for great RP, thinking up Socialism and all that.)
Hand me some feedback!

I don’t want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn’t know what to tell you to write.
I don’t know what to do about the depression and
the inflation and the crime in the Streets.
All I know is that first, you’ve got to get mad.

Huh! I should put that in the Q&A section.

Technically, no. While Socialism does have the thrilling connotation of intrigue and passionate believers willing to die for a cause...It can be polarizing on an Out of Character standpoint.

We went more towards the United States Democratic Party/Historical Union bend for this to avoid polarizing people and providing a political avenue that mirrors many of the player's own.

Not all the players, of course! But I am sure there are more Democrats in the audience than Socialists.

You'd be surpised, although lets just agree that there are most likely alot of left-wing idealizers here.

The politics of the group should be dictated by the IC members of the group and their values and opinions, amirite?

I think Shauna might poke her head in here. Being mute, she may not be really useful... Perhaps good for handing out flyers?

Aye, I should clarify:

Since the guild does need to have an 'inception' point, we've decided to start as a less-extreme left-leaning organization. All high ideals of 'the system will work if we give the people a voice' and 'the moderate way is the popular way.'

Depending on how players react, we may remain to that, go deeper into it...Or go down that road of rabid re-distribution of wealth.

Depends on how you all role-play it!

Oh god. To join on a completely rebooted Nathaniel, or not...hurm...

I feel an Orwellian vibe, though. Different. And interesting. Except now WE'RE the commies. A buncha card-carryin'-communists.

Count me in. Except not on Nathaniel. Nathaniel doesn't even has his proper name anymore. It was stolen by a guy who hasn't logged in since he made the character. So.
