The thing is I don't really know if there was anyone tortured who didn't want it, or consent to it OOCly. I had asked everyone I worked with and some actually seemed quite entertained about it on teamspeak. There was like one time wires got crossed and we easily retconned or changed the emote, but overall I had the impression that torture was wanted.
When I tried to run enslaved I had asked about how torture would be done as feedback and I assumed once more that in rp it'd be conducted as a case by case basis but I think some people expressed that it wouldn't be good to keep torturing the victims and it would ruin them from an IC perspective. I think the impression or the implication came across is not that people were forced into torture rp, but that they did not want to be around torture rp, or that torture was part of the agenda.
But when it comes down to it if player A wants to torture player B and player B wants to be tortured, what would stop that? I just feel like perhaps if it's uncomfortable they can be asked to move it to private but some people do come to this event wanting torture and abuse. There are probably good and bad ways to handle torture, but I felt like part of the event and the suspense is that you have these people who are empowered over another group of people.
Something I noticed between kidnapped 2 and kidnapped 4 is that that feeling of control didn't seem to be there as much. I remember in 2 how viciously riots were put down and how people really did feel hopeless and spent every moment plotting and there was a lot of tension and strife. Guards could torment and toy with the prisoners. Some of that could happen in four but we always had to wait for enough guards to log in or an event to be in place, because somehow between 2 and 4 it seemed guards had to manually detain or beat down the prisoners 1 by 1. I'm not saying it's bad but some people enjoy that guard/victim dynamic and part of it is lost if you have to wait for enough guards to log in just to carry out a particular kind of roleplay.
That being said I think the torture and the atmosphere and dynamic of guards versus prisoners is a case of your mileage may vary. Some people don't like the presence of torture rp but others want the feeling of powerlessness and abuse. Some people get physically, heart-poundedly excited from rp like that. I wouldn't want to get it taken away but it's hard to have that around without the feeling that someone else doesn't like the rp you're doing.
